View Full Version : Real life test: RS6-R MTM vs. BMW M6 on the Autobahn

Sorry guys, no video, but according to "rumors" ;) the MTM RS6 730 hp drove vs. a BMW M6 (sports exhaust) on the Autobahn recently.

The MTM RS6 had one more passanger and a full tank of petrol.

The BMW M6 had no chance, the RS6 was clearly much faster.

The M6 was there as a benchmark, so the driver/owner was in on it i.e. pedal to the metal.

Eyewitness news tell me that the RS6-R is a completly new experience vs. the car I drove (i.e. MTM 650 hp). The RS6-R has a much better engine development and suspension, the work is ready. When I drove the car a few months ago it was still under development, but ready enough for testing.

The RS6-R got very high remarks, a very good package. RS6-R Sedan would be the dream package...

They also drove the Abt 700, however this car did not perform as well and it also didn't trigger the "buying signal" as much as the MTM.

Now, we all remember the recent Autobild article (http://www.rs6.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16765) where the Abt 700 was the fastest to 300 km/h. The explaination I got was that all these cars were tested on different days and condiftions. I don't buy that as a full explaination, but I mention it as I know people will ask. Sometimes things are just too complicated, and too many factors unknown to make a valid conclusion.

Have a nice day! Life is good! :burnout:

Audi RS6-R MTM is the best MTM car I drove since I know Roland Mayer.
And I drove every single MTM developpement car for the last 7 years...

Indeed ! ! !

I had the car for 10 days in Paris back in 2005. Bought a tank of fuel every single day !!!

A pure monster, not easy to drive because of this unique architecture of two engines without mechanical link. But very very very scary !!!!

Frederic,

what are your impressions on RS6-R?
What are its expected acceleration figures?

340km/h (213mph) comfortably puts this car in among the big boys. Not to many supercars will get away from it, so the chances of an M6 doing anything other than going backward would have been a surprised.

I just wish there was video footage of the event.

P.S.
The car didn't happen to be dark grey and was at a certain BMW Fans event in Sweden. No, of course not, that would have been cheating and that's something only BMW drivers seem to do. :hihi:

Nothing, just a little dig at our would-be friends from BWM forums who happen to look in from time to time. :hihi:

it's no surprise for me that a 730 HP-monster RS6 beats a M6, is it a surprise for you guys here???

The M6 has maybe around 550 HP with the sport exhaust on it, so the M6 has no chance I think, and I wonder how much Torque the RS6-R had...

Specs:
M6>>>1800 kg? 550 HP, Torque??
RS6>>2100 kg? 730 HP, Torque= 800 NM??

and by the way I'm a huge M6-fan...but the RS6 is just the better package anyway...

I have witnessed some truly might M6s with modest modifications. They true performance lays at higher speeds, I saw one beat a SL65 with ease, so one should never underestimate them. But the RS6-R is in a different league altogether. I doubt too many cars will get the upper hand on one.

Hey Mr Balsen. Would you as MTM to fix the damned DRC for the Mk 1 rs6? I mean, if they do such total suspension revamping, they could make a small fortune selling DRC shocks that actually work, dontcha think?

Haha! :applause:

This 730hp monster seems to do the trick, I'm looking forward to some acceleration numbers. Must be the ultimate thing... :king:

Wonder why BMW is going for Turbos again...?

Less than 4 sec for 0-100 km/h
Measure in the afternoon of a hot day in August: 21"7 for the 1000m stand still. It is at least as good as Ferrari 430 or 997 Turbo. With colder temperature, it would have been much better

More than figures, such torque with this great gearbox is providing more fun than you can handle. Really !

The engine is not pushing before the speed is around 280 km/h.
