Sounds nice. Doesnt look especially fast though. 160-200km/h seems to take about 8 sec., which would mean 0-200km/h in 20.x seconds. And it is a DSG version. Hope it was slightly uphill etc...

This S4 reminds me of the E46 BMW M3 in soundwise pretty cool! :)

Ignore the needle and look at the shadow below. The shadow crosses the 160km/h mark at 39s and breaks the 200km/h mark at just over the 45s point. I'm guessing something like 6.5s and not the 8s you are estimating.

Combine that with a believed 12.0s to 160km/h and you are looking at 18~18.5s from 0~200km/h. :thumb:

A nice, quick, fairly easily tuneable S4. So different from the last one!

Does sound good too.....

Second that.

To me a six is just smooth and boring, the half-order sounds from a five (or even a three) are so much more interesting and add real character. I reckon the only even number that sounds good is eight...

The double five is the best sounding even number.

The market position of this car is not the same as the RS4, it's competing with cars like the 335i and C350, two cars who's engines don't shout their intent. Why expect Audi to take a different approach?

This car will do everything the old S4 did and what it's competitors do only better.

BUT, only in manual version since new 7 Speed S Tronic is slower. Did you chech out official data?

Manual 0-100km/h 5.1s, S Tronic 0-100km/h 5.3s... S Tronic is also 35kg heavier...

According to my friend from quattro Gmbh key feature for really fast S4 are: manual, Drive Select and Sport diff. Avoid Dynamic steering and Active dampers...

The s-tronic is slower to 100km/h because it has an extra shift into third that the manual doesn't. I guess that means that in-gear it should be marginally faster than the manual because of the lower ratios?

WhatI like about this S4 as I mentioned in my previous post, is that compared to the B6/B7 S4 with the V8 which sounded great, but was very limiting to what you could do to it in a tuning sense, (without bolting on SC's etc). This is why the B5 S4/RS4 is such a popular car over here, with people getting 700hp plus out of the 2.7tt v6. Easily tunable. Hopefully this car will return to the B5 era of tunability.
BTW. If it is as said above very tunable, I ahve no doubt that this car will do 3-3.5 secs 0-60 and 200mph. Dont believe it... search youtube for the MRC tuned cars......... Dougs S4- what a car........

This S/Tronic must shift slower than the all other DCT gearboxes for the shifts to cause it a slower split time to 100km/h. I'm guessing the extra weight might be more of the cause than anything else.

But I am not so sure that it will still be slower to the 160 and 200km/h points and until we have back to back comparison we will never know for sure. I definitely agree with the Dynamic steering, all of these systems feel false and don't fill you with confidence, but I am not sure your friend is right about the Active dampers. Remember we had a similar discuss when the R8 was tested by SportAuto with manual gearbox and s/s suspension, I said it was the wrong setup at the time and I was proven right when retested with magnetic-ride.

Unless the Active dampers aren't really setup for spirited driving then I would pick them but I would wait to hear what others thought. Though one thing is for sure the sport diff is a must have, it improves balance and grip, giving the car a more neutral attitude with possible adjust-ability with the throttle. Something even the RS4 finds difficult.

After I posted about the extra gear shift I was thinking it didn't quite add up given how fast s-tronic shifts. But I can't believe that 35kg makes that much difference either. 35kg is less than the weight difference between the saloon and avant which doesn't have as much an impact on the 0-100 time. I'm a bit confused now :vhmmm:

In the 1st german tests, they wrote the same thing - s-tronic slower 0-100 because of the extra gear shift.

Other that that, they are all impressed with the package, and yes the sport diff makes the difference.

You only can get fast 0-100 Km/h time's when you can reach 100 Km/h in second gear.
If you need 3th gear to reach 100 Km/h you loose time.

Jarod.

Marv

Of course, it's not the shift time, its the fact that the shift takes you out of the peak power band so that extra little push up to 100km/h in third is more expensive:doh:
