I'm very impressed with the look of the new Mk6 Golf GTi, previously I felt the A3 still had a superior look in both style and quality but not any more.

Today the first images of the Volkswagen Golf GTI MkVI have found their way to the net ahead of the model's (http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080924.012/first-images-of-volkswagen-golf-gti-mkvi-leak-online-ahead-of-paris-debut#) planned unveiling at the Paris Motor Show next week. The model isn't due to be released on the market until Spring 2009, so we expect the show car to carry a concept label, but little will change once the model hits the production line.
Strong styling inspiration comes from the GTI W12 650 Concept starting with its wide reaching center grille. The front bumper features a one piece air intake and a set of fog lights that are so wide on the bumper they are almost on the fender panels, but do a great job of inducing a widebody appearance. The rear gets a twin exhaust set up housed around the diffuser whilst the popular GTI wheels from the MkV are retained for the new generation.
Technically the new GTI hasn't changed much, possibly to stop the model from stepping on the toes of the new Scirocco, the engine gets a power boost of 10bhp taking total output to 207bhp whilst torque remains at 206ft/lbs though emissions are down by 11g/km. The improved figures were achieved with a new induction system and for the first time on a GTI, Volkswagen have introduced its new electronic limited-slip differential which they call XDS.

I really like the head ligths! The car is looking "angry" with them.

I also like the car.

I'm surprised at so less interest in this car. One figure that does puzzle me is the output, 207hp+206ft/lbs when the same engine is producing 211hp+256ft/lbs in the A4.

Like the car too :thumb:

It seems VW got the curve, read a nice article stating that in years time one will remember the Mk. IV (ground braking quality in that segment) and the Mk. VI (desing & again bulid quality) while the Mk. V will be forgotten.

This GTI is really a nice pease of machinery. To be fair: the Mk. V GTI was the best of that generation.

a sidenote.: apparently VW is planning to bring an R20 as a R32 succesor = 2.0 TFSI with 270 ponnies.

I'm not really impressed by the look of the GTI. Maybe its cause the press photos all have the same wheels as the previous one that it looks so similar to the V.

I do like it. New front has a nice look about it and except the rear the rest is pretty much the same as the V.
What i don't like is the style of the new front fog lights and the exhausts are just plain ridiculous.

I'm still like the A3 muts better, the S3 is the better looking car.

To me the Golf actually looks the sportier of the two and thing improve at the rear.

Yes, the Mk VI looks better.....but I would still get the S3, I mean...come on man, there's no competition between those two mechanically speaking of course...and since I'm guy of function > form(most of the time at least)...

Saludos mate.

Well with the W12 650 wheels and front bumper shopped on that's not very hard :P

With the right exterior S3 looks pretty sweet though.

There's no doubt the headlights make a world of difference to how the car looks. It's definitely help my S5 get noticed above other stuff of equal stature.

P.S.
I just noticed that the chat is the new S3 will be receiving a 7sp S/Tronic, is this true? I thought the only transverse 7sp available was the dry clutch version and it's not capable of coping with anything like the amount of torque available in the S3.

Jarod, what do you know?

P.S.2
Just read it myself in the Audi UK website, now if they have developed a new 7sp version to work with the 350Nm of the S3 surely it's been design to work with a lot more besides. :hahahehe:

There are two 7 speed DSG's/S-Tronic's.
The longitudinal Quattro 550 Nm version for A4 and upward's with longitudinal engine layout.
And there is the transversal FWD 250 Nm version for every FWD VAG car with transverse engine layout.

So far i know there is no 350 Nm+ Quattro transverse DSG/S-tronic.

Well unless Audi UK have made a F#ck (F#@k) up on their website (which I doubt) there is a new 7sp being offered with the updated version of the S3.

There is nothing on the German Audi site to find about it.:vhmmm:

And i don't know nothing about it coming into production.

Maybe Audi will surprice me/us on Paris with something.

Maybe it's a balls up by Audi UK, which would be very funny. Though not for the ones who are really excited at the thought of owning a new 7speed S/Tronic S3. :hihi:

I read recently that VW will not be offering their adaptive dampers as standard on the GTi which would be a shame, though it only cost £695 will the rest of the range and might be reduced with the GTi.

I recently saw the new VW mark 6 GTI in the metal. I think this is going to be the car of 2009.

It is hugely fast, hugely frugal and rides exceptionally well with the adaptive dampers. The interior quality and equipment are a notch above the Scirocco, even if the 'Roc is slightly lower and wider.

I believe a new 7-speed DSG box for FWD VW/ Audi cars with 200 bhp and above is definitely in the works and will probably appear with next A3.

I have the first one on order at the dealers for the wee wife. I haven't seen the GTI, only the ordinary Golf but it does look striking.
