Hi all,

I stopped in the local Audi dealer and drove a RS4 for the first time. Hmmm, its not really that small and the back seat folds down all the way. Interesting, I really liked the car.

Anyways, prices are dropping like a rock and you can 10k off right away.

Back on topic here. I really want to add the Audi Nav to my RS6 and wondered what my options are. I did a quick search but dont really understand the whole upgrade process. I am looking for a faq lesson on the install, what needs to be modified and how to make sure the ipod adapter works.

Thanks,
Dave

Really, I did search....:hahahehe:

Dave, the nav system you saw in the RS4 I believe is the MMI. Unavailable for us. The only option for us is the RNS-E. More info @ http://www.navplus.us or do a search for RNS-E.

The B7 RS4,A4,S4,A3,S3 all use the RNS-E navi system which is a single double DIN unit with screen, buttons and internal dvd player for the navi DVD. The A8,Q7,A6,A5 and B8A4 and C6 A6/RS6 has the MMI system with external dvd player and buttons around the gearstick.

hmm, so then the RS4 still has the standard RNS-E system then!

The RNS-E can also be retrofitted in the previous RS6 model which had the RNS-D, CD based system. I have even retrofitted it into my RS2

Installation not complete in this pic:

as you mention duck, www.navplus.us is a fantastic source for all navi related info

Ok, that link above seems to have lots of info. Thanks Greg for the rns-e search topic.

Now, new question. My "new" RS6 has the factory cd-nav and onstar (defunct).

What if I just wanted to add BT, XM and or ipod interface to the existing setup? Can we attach each one of those additions without switching the whole thing to rns-e?

The factory CD nav is the turn-by-turn with instructions displayed in your instrument cluster.

The address the other issues:

BT - No, I think you will need to swap out the OnStar for the BT module but the module has to interface with a system and I don't believe it can talk to the Symphany II system, it needs the RNS-E.

XM - Your Symphony II should already have an XM module. But if it doesn't, I can sell you mine as I don't use satellite radio and are planning on swapping out to a RNS-E soonish myself.

iPod - The system that everyone uses and recommends on navplus.us is icelink. I believe they sell a version of the icelink which talks to the Symphony II system. However, just using a tape deck adapter like this: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Cassette-Tape-Adapter-Player/dp/B00070FIAK This is what I am presently doing and it works wonderfully well. I much prefer using the iPod interface anyway.

I think its RNS-E for me.

Heading your way to get the beast next week. Did you get back home yet?
