View Full Version : How Many Miles Before Performance Mods

It seems like many here have made performance improvements on your rides. I'm just curious how many miles did you go on the stock set up before making the move for more performance?

Seems like the stock set up would be plenty of entertainment for a while before it became "normal" or "mundane". :boring:

Also, of the mods you've made which do you enjoy the most and which was most bang for the buck (maybe they are one and the same)?:applause:

Funny you mention this because I was talking to my friend with the E55 about this precise issue, our consensus was that you really need to space out your modifications to this car in order to keep that "freshness" because otherwise, you gotta spend a LOT of money in order to get to the next tier of cars.

So, I've owned the car for a year, put about 5k on it and I will be swapping out the DRC for KW V3 and Hotchkis sway bars. Then, I will be adding the RNS-E and BT module (I plan to do this relatively soon partly because of the whole handsfree law that came into effect in California.) After that, my service advisor and I will probably come up with some way to blow up my turbos and transmission so Audi will pay for it. Somewhere down the road and between here and there I will also be chipping the car. For now, it will eventually come down to Revo and GIAC.

Great thread!

I purchased mine with 31,000 miles on it. I did the ecu/tcu 2 months (a few miles) later. IMHO, that put the cars performance where it needed to be in the first place. I replaced the DV's at the same time with Baileys. Then for tires, after the Dunlops wore out, I went with the PS2's, and what a great improvement! I use Wintersport M3's for winter driving and you give up some handling but I like the piece of mind. Not too long ago I installed the H-sport rear sway, that is good bang for the buck. And finally I have just replaced front rotors and pads with stock rotors and Pagid Blue pads. I have no comment on this yet, since I literally just installed them. The next thing I would like to change would be a firmer suspension, I have no DRC issues as of yet, but I prefer a tighter ride, more aggressive than the DRC can provide. I am paying close attention to those of us here that have gone aftermarket suspension for feedback. I currently have 65k on the clock and will have had it 2 years come November.

got boost, you went for giac! What made you go with GIAC over "whomever"?

I already had the "flashloader" (I had two other vehicles with the GIAC software at the time). Never had any issue with them, so just stuck with it. That and the shop I was dealing with at the time was a GIAC dealer. So if there were any issues I didnt have far to go and trusted the people involved.

My first RS6 I had for a year and kept it 100% stock performance-wise. I added tint and upgaded to the RNS-E system along with a K-40 however.

Second RS-6 I did the above but added 3M clearbra, Revo flash and LED tail lights. I use mine for business so the overall look is stock. If I were to have it as a hobby car I'd go for the aftermarket suspension KW's I guess and put on 19" RS6 Euro wheels and do the clear corner mod. The thing is stupid fast now so I can't see needing to add more performance mods at this point. I have come close to getting in some serious Po-Po trouble already so I'm happy. The Revo added the "freshness" to the car that DWD mentions. I agree. Get used to the awesome power of stock then bump up when 450HP just can't scratch the itch anymore. My last car was a BMW 850i six speed 12 cylinder with many mods and "only" 390HP and I thought that car was fast.... now here I am whining about 450HP. I've got serious issues.

I like the stealthy look though it has some downside. I was on a recent biz trip and stopped for fuel. The guy in the pump next to me (had a side view of the RS6) said the car was "Phat" and "Sitting pretty". "I really like the new Honda Accord, yours looks great". I said, "Thanks I love my Honda"

So you only did the engine flash...nothing for the trans? Thinking of doing Revo now too as it is impressive...did 5 hour test a couple of years ago...but now as warranty fades off what the hell.
