As the months and years have gone by, my father has noticed with each trip there, Audi's presence has grown and grown. Now, with Audi being the "official" car of the Olympics, Audi is huge there. They had nearly 100 A6s carting around key people, a grand display.

I was wondering if residents of China have noticed this very thing. Personally, I feel Audi made a very wise decision in being the first luxury manufacturer to have a plant there. Any thoughts from people who are living there?

Your absolutely right. As a matter of fact this article was posted on worldcarfans, in regards to VW's presence in China.

Quote: “If you’re one in a million, you have 1,000 clones in the People’s Republic of China.”

What I want to say with that is that even a small market share gives you large sales numbers, but not neccessarily a brand name like Coca Cola, or whatever they might fancy as drink over there.

What is 50.000 Audis in China. Nothing, but for Audi it's a lot. I remember posting, a few years back, pics of the R8 LeMans racer in China.

I suspect VW are pretty well positioned in China.

I will NEVER forget the VW Jetta Taxis in China, with a welded 'animal cage' for the passenger with minimal leg space, nor the traffic. :MTM:

This could end up being Audi's biggest market within a few years such is the way the Chinese economy is growing. Best to be first for once, instead of being late to the party like they were with the Q7.

Agree. Almost all of my father's business partners out there aspire to get... drum roll... Audis. ;) :D

Yeah, if you caught the women's marathon earlier this week at the Olympics, you noticed the A8L pace car. It was cool watching it pace the runners during the 26 mile run on NBC. Great free marketing for Audi. Audi is thee premium luxury brand in China. They sell more than 50,000 units there. It was something like 100,000 + last year and growing at a blistering 26%. Yes, there are alot of Chinese citizens, but the level of rich Chinese is still small relative to the overall population. So, the size of Audi's market share is impressive.

How do they keep up with demand? does Audi have factories in China?

Audi has factories in China to build the A4 and the A6 and A6L I think.

Thanks for the link. So am I mistaken for thinking the A6L looks exactly like our standard A6? Not longer?

NP ;)

Doesn't look longer, but I've tried to manuver my way around that site and found this...

http://www.audi.cn/audi/cn/zh2/new_cars/a6l/specification/Audi_A6L_2_0_TFSI.html

It's 5012mm long, so it really is longer than a normal A6... :)

China has this rule that foreigners are not allowed to drive themselves. Audi took this serious and made a car with more room for luxury in the back.

( I think )
