The damn thing isn't coming Stateside, as it sounds...:vgrumpy: :addict:

Thoughts? Understated, perhaps a little too much, yet a keen eye still knows there's something special in it.

Looks good, about what the pshops showed. Audi should see if it can get it to the US, I think it cold sell about a 1,000 or so.

The upgraded supercharged V6 is good for the US market as well. And it's cool that it uses less fuel than the 255 hp V6.

KresoF1,

I am not sure that RS6 will be much faster or more agile than R8.
Do you look for the back seats and 4 doors orwhat is your motivation?

RXBG
August 12th, 2008, 14:08
in a straight line it'll be faster. esp above 100 mph. not unlike an M6 or E63 vs R8 scenario.

we all await the V10 R8. finally it will put the matter to rest.

however it does look good and i think it looks a lil more aggresive than the avant IMO :)

August 12th, 2008, 20:32
Looks awesome i think, i really love it, but it takes 4.5 seconds to accelerate 0-60 (100km/h...)again. Slightly faster than M5, not faster than E63 at all and on a bad day it can also happen that it looses against a M5. It does have a great engine with much more torque than it's competitors, also better fuel economy but it seems like this amount of power is not enough...Ok, it's faster on the ring, impossible to catch up in a corner but everybody interested in straight line acceleration (at least everybody layman...) and it does not offer more than the others in this aspect.
It's engine is almost in Mercedes' 65 AMG territory in power output(ok, shorter stroke). But way sportier and AWD helps it in acceleration (i mean it gives the car GRIP while starting). But it's slower...again...Ok, it beats it's closest competitors, but only as an "all-rounder" it isn't really faster then them.
If Audi saw these numbers half year ago, i don't understand why they can not raise it's output to ~650hp if it's needed. It didn't make the car more expensive because i guess that those figures (650hp/700nm) can be produced with a little bit of modification in the exhaust system and ECU, doesn't even require to change turbos. I hope you don't think that i wish tremendous things, i just wrote my opinion about this great car.

Regards,

Tom

Prefer this to tthe Avant.

Likre the UR wheel arches which seem more prominent on the sally.

Tom and Rutkowsky: Since when do we pay attention to any manufacturer's claimed 0-60 numbers? We know those are off, especially being Audi's, so wait for the tests to start coming in. The RS6 will beat the E63 (it'll be close to 60 but will definitely beat it to 100, 120, 150 and everywhere in between).

You two should read Top Gear's latest article featuring the RS6...

...i am gutted that it doesn't feature DKG gearbox! ...

And not even the DSG which would be needed but the new 8 speed gearbox from ZF, which can switch down as fast as it can switch up! But I'm not sure that this box can handle this amount of power or not, and even if it handle it, it could be too expensive:noshake:

The exterior, coming from a MkI owner is great. The rear lights are so, so though. I'd have to see it in real life, but overall, I'd say the car is fantastic. Shame it may not make it Stateside, I know a lot of folks who will be bummed.

Being an avid Avant Fan, I am surprised by how much I like the sedan. There is not an angle that bothers me in the least bit. In fact it looks too good. The rear lights, and I was initially offended by them, look very nice, and in person I bet they look even better, specially at night lit up in front of everyone to see from behind.
It will come to stateside by next year, and will be priced around 120-130K. Lot of money for a lot of car.
Daytona grey, with black leather with all carbon fiber panels in titanium finish package should be a good combo.
Congrats to everyone who will get one.

What is soooooooo booooring is this need to have the quickest car in acceleration. It's as if driving skills and handling bear no meaning on what makes a great car.

Like someone else said, look at the latest Topgear reviews with the RS6 in it, then watch the Driver Republic video against the C63 Estate, in this test it's against a much more nimble foe than the E63 and yet it kills it on the track, cornering hard, braking deep and achieving a higher topspeed on the straight. To improve a time of 3 seconds on any track (excluding the ring) is exceptional, but to do it against something which is quicker in acceleration and from a class size smaller is incredible.

I think what Audi have achieved with the RS6 is way greater than their achievements with the RS4, it's goal was to beat the then E46 M3 and it did that but Audi have covered so many bases with the RS6 it's unreal. The car can hold it's head high against the likes of supercars and all from an estate car which can carry 5 people in total comfort and quiet, and a boot big enough to except anything from a dog to a full camping trip.

As always Audi have proved themselves as a class act above all others.

P.S.
I prefer the new rear lights over the old ones, now the rear ends doesn't look as wide as it did.

RXBG

i too can't wait to see a true test against the M5 and E63, its peers. it'll be faster than both but *maybe* not as nimble as the M5

650hp?!?! Baby steps, I think 70 or 80 horsepower above its competitors is a good start :) plus, let's draw a line (lol, at 581hp) that society shouldn't cross in the name of the planet  at least for family sedans. As a member of a not-about-to-die generation, we at some point have to stop contributing to global warming in the name of our anti-BMW/Mercedes egos.

Dear Qisha,

from the experience of people who has driven in new RS6, does it feel really better than M5 or E63?
It's very important to know it, because it's impossible to have a test-drive of such a car and we make decisions based on impressions of other people.

I would be very pleased to get your comments.

Dear The RS6,

1.985 KG.

Qisha

so we have 40 kg difference between avant and limo. (2025 avant)

What means that with driver and fuel the avant is avarage around 2150kg
and the limo 2110kg.

I personaly hoped for a bigger difference.

So remember m5 touring and limo have 100kg difference, why rs6 limo and avant just have 40kg. i dont know the reason why there is not a bigger difference

But it will pretty clear that accelaration in the rs6 will be almost identically between limo and avant.

DuckWingDuck
August 15th, 2008, 13:19
ya, for the saloon to be only 40kg lower than the avant is out of hand, the avant already weighs a lot, now for the saloon to come in at close to 2 tonnes. Man, talk about bloat...

Dear artur777,

i would rather like to compare the RS6 Sedan to a non existing E65. Acceleration is the primary statement of the new RS6 and this without any compromise from idle to redline. The suspension plus is a must have feature, as it controls the weight very well- almost countervailing it. You can cruise with having something like "comfort" or choose to have it the rough/pure way. Anyways the car is giving you the feedback to not overrate yourself. Topspeed (250 km/h) is achieved so fast and flawless -no matter if you are at 50, 100, 160 km/h...- , it feels like the transmission fails when the car runs into limitations. The 280 km/h option feels better- but likely. A need to have this in my eyes but still kind of "frustrating" since the car still accelerates strong @280 km/h. BUT there is light at the end of the tunnel to solve this. ;)

I guess everyone is speculating about the performance/accelaration figures, as this is status quo. Well, if you are looking at the cars you mentioned, there is no need to hide yourself. :thumb:

Personally i would highly recommend the Ceramic Brake option as well as the 20" Wheels, both valueable options.

In short objectiv terms: powerful but heavy car that surpasses expectations to be a great car.

Not the weight saving I was hoping but still it will improve the cars overall abilities as has been the case with every comparison between saloon vs estate.

Personally an RS model has to be an Avant to be a true RS, so I would forgo any improvement for pure tradition.

Thanks for the detailed answer and the options to order with the car.
The main question - to buy RS6 or to wait for RS5 on MLP.
Could you please comment if we see RS5 in 2010MY or not?

Maybe the sedan has a much better weight distribution...

artur777
August 18th, 2008, 15:10
I am not sure about weigh distribution because Sedan has lighter back and that's mean more weight in % to the front...
I will be happy to be wrong though.. but..

NO, weight distribution is actually worst BUT, sedan has lower center of gravity.

Also, RS6 sedan suspension is tuned little bit differently...

RS6 sedan should be at least 0.5s faster around Hockenheim then Avant version...
