Name this sound.. help please :)

[Fonzie Audi]

High pitch, winding sound coming from very front at low to mid RPM's. Only happens in gear - not when revving in park or neutral.

brand new sound - kinda worried. cant get into shop until the 30th.

i know you guys can help :idea:

it does follow my RPM's up and down!

It does not make the sound while in idle.

Just go flat out and see at what speed it disappears :D

LOL. already tried it.

Tore apart the freeway last night trying to blow or shake loose whatever was creating the sound.

The only thing that came of it was a passanger who needed a new pair of undershorts.

It's a high pitch wind, almost sounds like there is an RC car in the front under my hood for the first 3000 RPM's or so.. reaaaally freakin me out.

it might be a turbo.

i don't have even a drop of power lost.. it's just the sound. no CEL either

just to be sure, turn your a/c off and re-check.

Have you checked under the car or in any areas of the drivetrain or rotors?

Have a friend stand near the road and listen while you drive by...

look i had the exact same problem, it doesnt make the noise in neutral right, its a cracked turbo intercooler, this happened to my car, and not very costly, but the installion is a pain.

correct, it does not happen in idle or neutral, and only in slower speeds.

cracked turbo intercooler sounds about right.. i have to wait a few more days before getting it checked out.

it sounds almost like when you put a manual car in reverse

i have just replaced a pipe from turbo to intercooler wich was broken so you can not see it.. :-( the hole was under the tightner on a turbo side..

This is a passanger side turbo (right) we drive on a right side here in Croatia..

Since this is my first post i would like to say hello to comunity.. :-)

I run 2003 RS6 light mod like chip, de-cat (only second pair), K&N, and i am making some mod`s to my cooling system now.. (building in fans to intercoolers, extra 2 fans up front and wather injection kit) since i found out using rostech that my intake temperature is 87 celsius i freaked out, since all my stock gauges was showing all normal, then i checked wather temperature it was somwhere from 98-105 celsius (gauges says 90 !!! ) so i decided to cool it dow a bit.. Just asembeling relay control to turn them on and off.. Also i am waiting for butterflay valves and will proceed to build a exhaust system so when i switch to "S" on my gearbox sound goeas wild... :-)
Will keep you guys updated...
