I will continue to update this story with more words and pics, so please visit soon again for the latest.

Soooo...I am back from a visit in the Ingolstadt area.
The weather was nice and warm, but the rain was really hanging in the air.

Read on... :brag:

We land in Franz Josef Strauss International Airport and drive for less than an hour to get to Ingolstadt. Ingolstadt is a faily small place, domiated by Audi.
It is also the place for the Audi Forum, where you can pick up your brand new Audi, have a tour in the great museum and eat and dine well.

I don't want to make anyone disappointed. Obviously a roadtrip like these takes some contacts and planning to work 100%. You can't just book a ticket an expect to get the keys to an RS6.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-7.jpg

Inside you will find a very good museum. Not to be missed if you're around.

The building to the left is where you can pick your brand new Audi up. It also has two restaurants (incl. Avus fine dining)
and the Audi shop.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-15.jpg

Soon enough we're inside the latest Audi RS6 Avant, enjoying it to the fullest.

V10 T FSI 580 hp and 650 Nm of torque.

I'm really surprised that the gear changes are so fast. The tiptronic feels perfect, and it keeps the gear in place even when you hit the limiter.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-18.jpg

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-9.jpg

We drive a nice mixture of Autobahn and "yellow" roads, the curvier b-roads with a lot of ups and downs.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-12.jpg

Shaken...but I think you get the idea I think.

The car had the delimiter option from Audi, giving the RS6 a top speed of 280 km/h. The limiter feels very soft :hahahehe: you don't hit a wall like I have felt with other cars.
As you can see the speedo is a bit higher. :revs:
The pics are taken on an unlimited Autobahn.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-11.jpg

I will fill in with more pics lateron, but it is time to move on to my next experience.

So what could possiblt beat the new Audi RS6? Well a tuned on of course... :hahahehe:

As you may know the tuner MTM (Motor-Technik-Mayer) is nearby. Just by chance ;) they had a few cars waiting for me.

http://www.mtm-online.de/en/

I'm not sure if the final figures have been released/fixed. But the dyno showed 666 hp on stock wheels. So is this really the Number of the Beast? :king:
The torque is 786 Nm (limited). Without the limiter we're looking at perhaps 1000 Nm.

Well the engine is pushing 1.6 bars instead of stock 0.7 (AFAIK) so yes you can feel a big difference.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-3.jpg

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-2.jpg

As you can see the car from MTM has a front lip and rear diffusor in carbon fibre.

The car also has an exhaust from MTM.

Talking about the exhaust. At first I tought the sound in the gear changes on both the stock and tuned car was a bit strange. But the more I drive the more addiction I get. I think that during the gear change the engine cuts the ignition, creating some sort of back draft in the exhaust. Like a Brrr-like sound.

Apparently the tiptronic is adaptive, so with more power the gear change goes quicker. I don't have any data to support this, but it's myfeeling which is also supported by talks with some technical people.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-1.jpg

For reasons you may suspect, I was focused on the driving, I don't have any 300 km/h+ pics at this time in the MTM RS6.
However Claes Nilsson http://www.cnfoto.se/ managed to catch this picture in the same car.

http://streetxtreme.se/images/gallery/mirage/1_48622e634da7f.jpg

Then the MTM R8 Kompressor / Supercharger was waiting for me.

V8 with twin screw supercharger, belt driven creating 560 hp at 0.55 bar and 580 Nm of torque.
0-100 km/ in 3.9 secs (same as MTM RS6) and 0-200 km/h in 12.5 secs (probably slower than the RS6 :lovl: )

The MTM R8 was on Cup tires, so I'm happy it wasn't wet outside. :nono:

This car is completly different to the RS6. You can really feel you're inside a sportscar, the car is much more nervous and takes a lot more activity from the driver to deliver its fullest.

The R8 was a manual and as a first it took me some learning. I'm used to manuals, but the R8 console is a bit special and takes some time to get used to.

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-4.jpg

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-5.jpg

http://www.rs6.com/pics/Various/MTM-2008-Web-6.jpg

I also drove the Tuner Gran Prix winner in the diesel class, the MTM A5 3.0 TDI "Clubsport".

The engine is a pearl (feels 100% stock, except more powerful) and the suspension/chassis is really really well tuned. A true diamond.

I'm sorry but I had no means to test it.

All I can say is that ii's for sure faster than stock.

I have the spec sheet from MTM.

It says 0 - 100 km/h in 3.9 secs.

But the figues 0 - 200 km/h is clearly wrong (typo) so I don't want to quote it (it's more like a possible 0-300 km/h time. I wish, haha :hahahehe: )

Is it just me or on this picture the right LEDs don't work?

I've checked my sequence of pics and it's interesting because it's got to be due to the frequency of the LEDs and the shutter speed.

In some pics both sides can be seen, and then alternated left - right on/off.

Yes, if you want to enjoy the RS6 that is now the one and only option. :(

The conversion rate € vs. $ makes it impossible to sell such a car in the US, and I guess Audi would have to remake a lot of things to make it match US safety regulations (and possibly emissions).

I guess the RS6 sedan will be released in the Paris show, but we'll see.

I didn't like the shifter at first, but I think it takes some getting used to.
The R-tronic is probably not a better option.

I will start a seperate thread for the MTM R8, but you can imagine the feeling from this video.

Here's the latest fashion for RS6-ers.

At €330 I think it's a bit pricey.

looks like a great day! My brother works for Audi logistics in Norway, and they got the first RS6 in the country a few days ago....it will probably be a dealer show off for now, cause with a price of almost 320.000,- euros here, I think it will be a rare sight.

Erik,

was 313km/h really maximum (e.g you tried in very long line) or was it best you could do within traffic?

Erik
June 26th, 2008, 11:25
I don't know what is the V Max. Officially it's 303 km/h, but I guess it's due to the tires (a much more serious problem that most of us realise).
It says in the MTM spec "depends on tyre limitations".

I had no GPS and no focus to see the speedo, and there was too much traffic for any sustained attempts.

I'm pretty happy anyway :D

jonas21
June 26th, 2008, 11:48
Erik,

i am sure the tires are a problem.
But what i mean is...did you run this speed over a long distance, e.g. did the speedo stop at 313km/h or was there space upwards? How did you feel/how was the ride?

Increasing from 0,7 to 1,6 bar and only moving from 580 to 656hp ? That would suck. Whats more. Reliability with this kind of boost increase would be an issue.

Own a B7 RS4 Avant for daily driving, and previously owned the RS6 back in 2002. Bought that for £61,000. Awsome car.

Drove the new RS6 2 weeks ago, very competent....that's about as much as I can say. Exceptionally dull looking compared to RS4.

Asked for my £5000 deposit back and was duly refunded.

£80,000 for this is ridiculous. I stated to the dealer that I would probably lose £30,000 in the first year. Both he and his manager did not argue.

I later received a call offering me a significant discount if I were to reconsider.

The car is a total white elephant and will be hit massively by depreciation.

Which dealer was offering discount? Must be the only one in the world! Was your 2002 RS6 new or used? cos at £61k it was cheap! Mine was £72k new, it lost 40 k in 5 years. But everyone said the B7 would lose money like nick leason, but hey it is still £50k! I personally think that it will hold its value as well as the RS4 has, because of the simple fact that the people who have bought them are yummie mummies and super rich people who really dont give a stuff about £80k, you may find one in 3-5 years time for £40k but i fear not before. Which is a shit because I want one, I think it is exactly right, if i want raw and aggresive I would have bought something else. Even my C5 is understated- but thats my bag. Each to there own!

Bought the RS6 from London Audi, sold it back to Dick lovets in Bristol for new 996 Turbo 10 months later for £59,000. Turbo was £89,000, no discount.

The dealer has 4..yes 4 RS6 in stock. None sold and I
was the only one who had a deposit down of £5k.

I seriously disagree with your opinion that these will hold their values. This car will do up to £30,000 in 12 months in deprecation. That's what ultimately put me off. I'd lose less on an Aston. I had an AMV8 for a year or so and lost approx £1200 per month, same with 360.

The RS4 appeals to more as it lies within reach of more people at £50k. The RS6 is £20k too much. At £60-65k I may have been tempted, but even with the discount offered, I was not quite at that level. And then there's the looks....or lack of them.

Don't get me wrong, I like the subtle nuance of the RS4, and hate wings/spoilers and beardies who wear blue subaru jackets, but the RS6 offers a new level of missed opportunity for Audi. Too expensive, and ultimately too understated.

One thing i do agree with you on Robbo is that 80k is rediculous, I certainly would not pay 80k for it. But and this is a big BUT, in the audi dealer today, new A4 avant 3.0tdi quatro- £45k! The world has gone mad........

So...whats the deal? You dont like the car because it looks boring? Well...your opinion. I for myself love this "stealth".
Given then features like engine, gearbox, interior etc the pricetag (imho) is acceptable.
Of course, if you want an aggressive car with alot of HP then you should look elsewhere. Afterall its still a station wagon....with alot of HP. And thats why people love it.

The looks of the new RS6 are right on. Just what Audi is marketting to.

I'd love one, but too expensive for me, I am just a surgeon!!! Its 1:30 am and I'm waiting to do a colon resection for a lady with a bowel obstruction for which I'll make about $800. for. You get a mechanic to fix your car at 1:30 am for $800 no friggin way! God Medicine SUCKS! Driving my RS6 keeps me sane.

The same thing applies to all the cars that the RS6 is competing with and in most cases the others will lose a lot more. AMGs at this price level loses a bucket, same for the M5 and more so the M6. At over £70K you are starting to push the boundaries of what a quite wealthy person wants to spend on a car.

Unlike the RS6 which is a proper family car the others you mentioned, the Aston and Ferrari 360 are classed as really wealthy people's toys and all have a waiting list far in excess of what Audi demand for the RS6. Though I agree that the RS6 will lose more money than the RS4 I am not so sure that your percentages are correct. £30K of a drop is 40% in the first year, that far excesses all other cars in it's class and yet it's numbers will be smaller than the rest meaning a more limited supply and less coming up for sale. All of this usually means the opposite of your opinion.

I'm no expert but I would have thought the between 20~25% in the first year was the more likely lose and that would mean not £30K but £15K~£19K roughly. Still more than I would be willing to lose but then again I wouldn't place this much in a car to start with.

I agree, but the RS6 has alienated a good % of potential buyers such as myself by being too heavy and simply bland in design compared to the more aggressive RS4. This will affect residuals. Also has the current financial climate to consider as well as M5 Touring.

£30,000, I'm afraid is a near certainty. I was offered my £81,000 RS6 for £72,000, brand new, if I were to reconsider. Again, you would then lose a further £20,000 in depreciation. There was not a sniff of a discount 2 months ago.
The dealer has 4 in stock. Have to ask yourself why.

Wait 12 months an these will be £50,000 for decent low miler. May consider then.

GrantG
June 30th, 2008, 10:35
It really depends on how many actually sell, and how many people want a 2nd hand 2 tonne 200mph gas guzzler, and how many will be still on the forecourt in 12 months time. I doubt the fall will be £30k in one year, but you will be looking at 50% in 3 years so a loss of around £40k... personally I'll let someone else pay the bulk of the depreciation first. ;)

Anyway, this is all speculative. Give it 12 months and we will know. :thumb:

when you are on that operating table you will pay more to get your health and life back .... if you want to make more than $800/month, go to school and find a decent job ..... :argue:

I said the average paycheck was 850, not that it was my paycheck...don't u worry about me :hihi:

It was just fun for me to see someone earns an average paycheck in an hour...and is not satisfied :)

it goes with territory - in some countries this may be more than average for 6 months ....

You'll find that most medical people cannot wait to tell you they are a dosctor/surgeon etc.....why, I've not the faintest idea.

Perhaps it gives a sense of false superiority.

are you kidding :MTM: this is just about 500m after the 100km/h limit along "Greding" where the autobahn splits and goes uphill!!!!!!!! ... I'm lucky if my Polo can keep his 140km/h there...

Hey I wasn't driving, and I don't know what sort of speed limits that were around.

But, yes it's a pretty fast car.
