Mr Balsen

There is no limitation from power point of view. Except the tires from factory are not homologated to 300 km/h. Don't forget the car is very heavy ! ! !

Frederic

I explained this to Kerso, artur777 and others that the only thing limiting the RS6's top speed was the tyres and the reason for this is not so much the overall weight of the car but the extra weight it carrys over the front axle, unlike the Bentley which can run at over 200mph the RS6 doesn't have it's 50/50 weight balance. The tyres wear is excessive on the kind of compound needed to cope with the power and grip, it's currently a compromise, less top speed for more grip but Audi are currently working with the tyres companies for a solution.

Fingers crossed it would be too long.

Mr Balsen
June 18th, 2008, 21:45
Leadfoot,

You are completely correct. I heard exactly the same from MTM this afternoon.

Nobody should also forget that the Bugatti Veyron was delayed at least by one year solely because of the tires. Michelin could not produce a tire strong enough for the speed, the power and the weight. The tire will not last more than 15 minutes at full speed. This is why the gaz tank has a size for only 10 minutes at full power.

Frederic

Man, I didn't know that. Though in these economical times with fuel prices hitting the roof I doubt even Bugatti owners will be wanting to try for a top speed run to often. :hihi:

What if a Bugatti owner(s) didn't want to stop and engineered/created a way to refuel "mid-flight" like these fighter planes do? OK, that is REALLY out there.....

If I had a Veyron, refuelling costs would more than likely be the least of my concerns, sorry Leadie. More like what F@#$ing idiot is going to not yield and pull out in front of me... or some knucklehead drops his ladder at 65mph and doesn't stop to get it... Or how many ricers are going to try and "keep up" to get a Youtube minute...

Back to the Thread at hand...

Mr. Balsen, when is the MTM world tour of this Stage 1? In the US, the EPA allows something like 30 day pass/permit to "demonstrate" non-US/DOT/non-EPA cars. I bet with a grand opening of a MTM in Los Angeles (hint, hint, hint), you would have quite a following showing off some of MTM's finest hardware. The 2008/9 MTM Stage 1 RS6 Avant would be the star of the show...

I can tell you this road does not exist...

Leadfoot - I agree with you on tires issue
So it will be easier to tune RS5 and don't limit its maximum speed due to its better weight balance.

Anyway - what are your expectations of RS6 0-200 time with MTM Stage 1?

ben916
June 18th, 2008, 23:07
...I can tell you this road does not exist...

There is a rally in Nevada called The Silver State Classic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_State_Classic_Challenge) that has some closed public highway to "stretch those long legs"... (ignore the Tessarosa that blew a tire at 150+ and killed the driver and his wife....)

Perfect for a long legged RS6 V10TT Stage 1, and a donated Veyron...

Schmoocher would be all over it, video and GPS...

I was down as QSTuning today (MTM importer/fitter for UK) having a gearbox oil leak fixed on my C5 (that's RS6 C5 not Sinclair C5;)) and they were raving about this chip but sadly they didn't know how it will change 0-100, 0-200 times:doh:

They reckon UK price will be just under GBP2000 + VAT and are looking for a victim (sorry customer) to try it on.

And for an added bonus, driving home I met a brand new RS6 in Monza Silver coming the other way so it looks like UK deliveries have started. Must say it looked very imposing on the road but I'm not convinced silver is the best colour - I think a darker colur is better.

Shame it wasn't going in my direction - could have has some fun.

Do you know if there are some safety modifications (roll cage, 4/5 point harness, wire-tying of lugs, etc) required?

None if you enter the "entry level" class. Extensive mods required for the "unlimited class". Basically, full race, non street legal.

Believe it or not, factory OEM seatbelts are still permitted in "Touring Division"...

http://www.sscc.us/docs/SSCC%20-%202008%20Rule%20Book.pdf

But I feel time is running out and it is only a matter of time before the regulations call for full scale "safety" features... i.e. more money.

A real shame as this is the closest thing we Americans have to The Ring, where you can just show up, pay fee, and do a lap. No signing, no special license, no gloves, no restrictions.

Actually it was more than 320km/h. ;) And achieving that speed during testing is a long way short of handing the same potential to a customer who might run the entire length of an Autobahn at a similar speed which would result in a possible blown tyre.

I guess 300 is a max speed for ordinary RS6. I reached 295 km/h during my trip in Germany (with A/C) and I'm sure I could add 5 km/h more (up to 300) with switching off A/C. Unfortunately my wife has fixed only 291 km/h..

that sounds pretty much like the version thats limited to 280km/h by audi. +15km/h isnt that unusual given the fact that the 250km/h versions of most audis only stop near 270 if you check the meter.

unfortunatly yes...30+degree outside and a bit racing and you'll end up in limp mode...been there done that...

just hope the new RS6 can cope with that as well as the chipped ones. but i guess audi has learned from the last rs6 as there is now alot better airflow to the engine.

We made about 1500 km during our Audi Experience trip and the average consumption was 16,1l/100km. Sometimes it was much higher (especially in the Tirol mountains and on the German autobahns) and sometimes lower (on the plains roads of Austria, Switzerland and Italy where speed limitation is about 100-120 km/h)
