We have the 2.4 V6 in our A4 cabriolet, in combination with the multitronic gearbox.
Perfect engine for the lazy cruising, certainly with that gearbox. Good torque down low, but in the midrange a bit weak. On kickdown however it doet its best, with ok acceleration and top speed (looking at what is needed in such a cabriolet). Consumption is between 8 on autobahn (legal speeds) and 11-12 in the city. The main reason to chose the v6 above the 2.0 4pot is the sound, they've really done great work on that.

Having also driven the 2.4 manual, I strongly advise you to go for the multitronic. It brings out the best in that engine, whereas the manual really shows the weaker midrange power.

hope this helps! :thumb:

I think you are talking about two different engines. AFAIK the 2.4 in the cabrio is the 30 valve 2.4 which is reminiscient of the old A6's 2.4 with 165 bhp.

In the new A6 the 2.4 is a 24 valve plant on the basis of the 3.2 FSI.

Don't know whether it makes much difference though. Actually, the 2.0 TFSI might be a better engine for the A6 than the 2.4 but then again I have heard nothing but praises for the latter.

Oh! Which one is best looking at liability and performance? 2.0TFSI or 2.4?

I am not sure about reliability but in terms of performance the 2.0 TFSI is the quickest with its turbo. Especially the mid range pulls are quicker in the 4 cylinder I would think.

2.4 (sedan, 6-speed manual)

0-100: 8.9
Top Speed: 231

2.0 (sedan, 6-speed manual)

0-100: 8.4
Top Speed: 225ish (?)

Generally, the past 2.4 V6s from Audi have been rock solid (I know, we had one for 10 years). I remember a year ago a test was made of a used 2.4 177 by a Danish car mag (it had 125.000 km on the clock). For all intent and purposes the car was completely flawless.

Personally, I would go for the 2.4 because I think an A6 needs a V6 ... it suits its style more.

Yeah it's suits its style more but I'm planning to make a kinda sporty A6 and I like the 4cylinder but it's only a 4cylinder if you know what I mean. With the V6 you can cruise AND drive sporty if you feel like. Right?
