Aparently, Porsche have plans to enter the ''Golf segment'' in 2012 with this Golf based model...

Looking forward to when the new Porsche "Transporter" or "Caddy" comes out!

This is just plain stupid IMO! Devaluating the brand!

I can't see the game plan here. What next? A Lamborghini Polo replacement?

Old news.

As weird as this may sound, it seems Porsche is working on a Porsche badged Volkswagen Golf for 2012. Now, we know that the Volkswagen Golf is a huge success, but a Porsche version of the car seems like a totally absurd idea; unless of course Porsche is postioning itself to become more mainstream and compete with BMW.

The picture above is on the cover of the new AutoBild magazine. The caption next to it read (in German) ”kompakte geheim-projekte bis 2012. der porsche-golf.” That translates to “compact secret projects until 2012. the Porsche-Golf.”

Last week, Porsche officially submitted an offer to acquire shares of Volkswagen, which will give it total control of Germany’s largest auto maker. If the bid goes through, it’s obvious Porsche and Volkswagen will share even a larger number of their platforms, but a Porsche-Golf will definitely take away the factor that sets Porsche apart from other German luxury auto makers.

It would be better if it will be Scirocco based.

And people will pay 40,000 for a 230 horsepower Golf as long as it comes with the Porsche badge. And that before 10-15,000 dollars worth of options:vgrumpy:

It will probably more like a 300+ hp 3.6 VR6 engined Scirocco with a Porsche badge on it IMHO.
I don't see Porsche using a VW 2.0TSI engine in it.

I don't mind. Mercedes builds all sorts of stuff, and still manage to charge big bundles of cash for their luxury cars.

How do you feel about this one? It's a Porsche, and it's a Diesel.

Now I wouldnt compare Merc to Porsche! Porsches brand is based on sportcars - Mercs on luxury cars.

Just seeking your opinion...Do you think this is good or bad?

As a great Porsche fan, I 'm not happy about this... I would prefer strong Porsche with only sports cars, but that is impossible, so I guess this is realty...

No, I don't like Porsche ''Golf''...

LOL. They are desperately trying to ruin the prestige of the brand. :lovl: They will end up just like Jaguar. But it looks aerodynamic so it would be very quick with the 1.4TDI :lovl:

AndyBG

They will certanly NOT end-up like Jag'..., but different, very different Porsche AG is coming... And that is something no one can stop.

There is something more sinister to read into this than the fact that it is Porsche based "Rabbit/Golf". You are taking your eyes off the main premise here. If Porsche is toying with expanding its line-up to become a complete sports and luxury premium brand, then Audi is seriously in trouble. Porsche won't allow competition from Audi if its sights are set on competing 100% as an Audi-type company. This is what you should read into this more than anything else. Who cares that is is a rebadged Porsche "Golf GTI" or what it does to Porsche's sports heritage. That is no longer the main concern for the Porsche family and its Porsche management.
