You know as well as I do that cars can make it very close to production and at the 11th hour the project be cancelled. With BMW pushing ahead with increasing SUV models I would reckon Audi and others are hedging their bets and have these projects well under way.

The switch to the kompressor for the S5 is an interesting one but expected as economy is not the big v8's strong suit, I should know (17.4mpg and not getting better :rolleyes: ). With it's incredible torque and power span this engine is more than an equal to the 4.2 v8FSi.

The other engine which is proving exciting is the possibility of a 4.0L kompressor, that engine will weigh no more than the current 4.2 v8FSi but have mountains of usable torque and a very wide power range, it might not have the rev range of the RS4 engine but it would be easily tuned to deliver 460hp and similar torque and would in my mind be a better choice for a future RS4 than staying with N/A power. This is the engine that will get my vote.

You would think Audi wouldn't drop 20 horsepower from the S5. That would be a hard sell.

Yeah - i do know - you're right. My info is about 2 months old ... everything is possible :)

@Engines for the S5/RS5

Totally agree, this Kompressors would be great ... let's see what the future brings ;)

I don't agree, but then again I may be looking at things from a totally different stand point. The performance will definitely be the same if not better, of this I am sure and everything else, the economy, weight balance and ease of tractability will all improve. The only headlinning thing that won't be as good will be the 1000cc less engine capacity and slightly less power.

BIG DEAL

Most of it looking good, can't wait for the R8!

As Leadfoot wrote above, changing to an kompressor-engine in the S4/S5 is all good. Less weight, better weight balance and probably better performance as well. Can't go wrong, or?

RS5 - 450hp - will it be enough for it to compete with all-new CLK63 AMG?

I so do not think. Should be 500hp.
RS5 -> 500hp

I dont think its meant to compete with the CLK.

Whatever power output, id much rather have an RS5 over a CLK63 anyway. I dont think people would cross-shop the two.

Both are mid-size coupes.

C63 - RS4
CLK63 - RS5

just easy:-)

You are right that both are competing for the same customer. But the RS5 will be unique in that it will be the sole AWD hi-performance coupe from Germany, so while the CLK63 might be a little quicker in acceleration the RS5 will be quicker because of it's better handling and will be much, much quicker in anything other than ideal weather conditions.
