There are indications that Audi is developing a new 4.0TFSI Supercharged V8 engine with ± 390 hp to replace the old 354 hp 4.2 V8 FSI engine.
Like the 290 hp 3.0TFSI supercharged V6 engine it will be very efficient.

The latest leaked "official" Audi document called for a 394 horsepower 4.0 TFSI V8 for the S7. And a 372 horsepower 4.2 FSI V8 for the A8. A little confusing because the S7 gets less horsepower than the S6, and the A7 supposed to be more upmarket than the A6.

Looking forward to the engine anyways.

So that 4.0TFSI might find it's way in the new S4?

Maybe, but I doubt it will be in this new version, maybe the model after that.

If it's to be used in any A4 version it would be the RS4, only slightly tweak to give 420~430hp. The 370hp 4.2FSi version is interesting and may end up in the S5 instead of the 3.0TFSi if it hasn't already been signed off which I haven't heard of yet.

I don't see the need for two V8 engine's with almost the same amound of hp.
The way i see it is that the 4.0TFSI supercharger V8 engine is the newest info.
That mean that the 372 hp 4.2 V8 FSI Valve-Lift A8 engine info still need to be updated.
About the S6 having more power then the S7 is just a matter of time IMHO.
I think the 5.2 V10 FSI will be dumped in favour of the new 4.0TFSI Supercharged V8 engine.
It's more efficient with fuel, have more torque (± 560 Nm) then the V10.
Audi can also put that 4.0TFSI supercharged V8 engine in the S5 and have all the time to develop a S5 Clubsport/RS.

Your logic is well grounded and may prove to be the reality. The only thing I can say is that 6 months ago my source told me that the board were favouring N/A engines in the S and RS versions of the A5 but as you well know things are continuously changing in the motor industry and economical issues are as important as anything else. BMW are dropping their 5.5Lv8 and have moved to the new 4.4L Bi-turbo so I think we will see more and more down-sizing, I remember saying this much about a year ago but didn't realise that it would be so wide spread among the entire range.

Personally I would prefer a 4.0L unit under the bonnet of the RS5 over either a N/A 5.0~5.2Lv10 or a 4.0L Bi-turbo, weight is more important than power and improving the handling should be paramount for Quattro.

You have captured my thoughts clearly. I have been continuously complaining about these horsepower wars and whats really important to performance sedans/coupes in this day and age. A 4.0L TFSI would be a welcome addition if it is reliable, frugal and flexible. :mech:

audi may put out two versions of the TFSI V8, as they are with the V6.
