What does a secondary air pump do in RS6?

The pump only works on start up , it pump extra air in through the head. This weakens the mixture to prevent the cats being damaged by the extra fuel on cold start.
I've got no cats and i've had the pump mapped out .

Can we map out the secondary air pump? My cat was removed as well. Recently I had the error code from secondary air pump, it was annoying. It can be reset. My friend told it was due to the broken pump, guess I don't need to replace it if I can map it out. Any clue?
