hey guys,
i am going back to the audi club by buying a 2001 a6 4.2. i had a b5 s4 before and want another audi. I guess with the 4.2 I would almost belong on this forum. Anyways, i just had a couple quick questions.
1) IS there a ECM upgrade for the 4.2 a6 or is it just for rs6's?
2) can you use a paddle shifting steering wheel on the tip tranny. I know you can use the S-line wheel with the buttons, but i want one with actual paddles...
3) do the s6's have bigger brakes than regular 4.2 a6's?
4) what kind of exhaust sounds best? I've looked on youtube for diff vids and found one that was titled open exhaust, what would that be? just straight pipe or what? also are there any x/h-pipes that should be used for a good sound?
5) does the anti-fouler mod work the same way it does on the b5's if i wanna remove the cats?
6) is there a speed governor? if so what is it set at and how do u kill it?
7) do the rs6 bumpers fit?

I'm sure im going to have more questions so please bare with me... :mech:

The best forum for A6 4.2 questions is www.audiworld.com there will be 1000 responses in like 10 minutes:)

1) Giac makes an Engine and Transmission Flash for the 4.2, together for both chips is $1000.00.
2) You can use the paddleshift wheel from the RS6 there is some wiring to do, you have to tap from the tiptronic shifter itself and the rest off the stuff is pre wired in the steering wheel.
3) They both have the same MASSIVE brakes, HP2 Calipers. A simple purchase of crossdrilled rotors, hawk pads, s/s brake lines and a coat of caliper paint and they look and perform like brembos.
4) The best sounding exhaust for the A6 4.2 is the RS6 Sound Enhanced Exhaust, i had it on my old car and it sounded phenomenal.
5) If you remove the cats on a 4.2 you will go deaf. The reason it wasn't that bad on the B5 is because the turbos quiet down the exhaust note a lot!
6) Yes but its set at 155, the Giac chip removes it.
7) The RS6 bumper fits but for 1300+paint it really isn't worth it. Just use the RS6 grills and save a bunch of money.

Here is a video of the RS6 Exhaust on my 4.2, and a pic of RS6 Grills on a stock 4.2 Bumper.

Also, there is a VagCom upgrade code to stop that model year from upshifting to second TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO soon. That was one of my biggest driving issues with my 2000 A6 4.2 Sport. The thing would shift to second as you rolled out of an intersection waiting to merge into traffic. Then when you step on it the stupid thing had to down shift back to first to get any get up and go....

I found that mode 20 seconds after I got my RS6 LOL...

You'll love the larger sized car, handles well, nice ride on highway.

But...

Get rid of the stock tires and get PS2's as the Pirelli's, Dunlops, etc get REALLY noisy... The PS2 stay quite right down to the flat, slick surface...LOL

are all those RS6 grills you had OEM or do u have to modify them in order to make them fit?
That exhaust does sound pretty nice, but is probably expensive right?
Am i able to get a RS6 steering wheel with paddles from the dealer here, in Canada, or do i have to order ir from Germany?
