Just when you think there’s nothing more to see or read about Nissan’s GT-R super-coupe, images of a mysterious prototype start to crop up on the internet. These latest shots depict car with several features you won’t find on the standard model, leading us to believe this is either a new Group N version of the latest model or possibly the upcoming V-Spec model due to hit the streets in 2009.

There were Group N versions of the previous model GT-Rs, which were basically stripped out versions of the regular production models but with more power and several racing modifications. The previous V-spec cars, meanwhile, were developed to denote the GT-R’s Group N racing success and included some serious performance enhancements as well.

There are several key details in these images, which turned up on GTR-World, revealing this is no run of the mill GT-R. Some of the elements the prototype features include a tow hook and pins protruding through the bonnet, a lowered ride height, race-spec alloys and tires, a modified front bumper (missing center grille possibly for improved airflow), full roll cage, a new air scoop in the front spoiler, a race-style refueling port and an air-jack adapter positioned below the right headlight.

While the GT-R is comparable with the Porsche 911 Turbo, the new V-Spec will follow the lines of the 911 GT3 in that it will be a bare bones version of the standard coupe and designed for the track but still road legal

A spy photographer has snapped photos of what appears to be a prototype for Nissan's long-rumored, long-promised GT-R V-Spec. Caught as it was unloaded off a truck at Nissan's Nürburgring workshop, this test car has some visual differences from a standard GT-R. The visible changes are certainly subtle, and not as far-reaching as some had expected, but the differences are present nonetheless, suggesting that Nissan's GT-R — which already leaves a Porsche 911 Turbo gasping in its wake — is being prepped to be even more formidable.

Nissan has also set a sub-7 minute 25 second Nürburgring goal for the GT-R V-Spec — 18 seconds faster than the current car.
Underhood, the GT-R V-Spec's turbocharged mill will see an increase in boost, raising output to 550 horsepower — up from the standard GT-R's 480 horsepower. In addition to the power boost, the V-Spec will also shed 330 pounds.
This test car gets a revised front splitter, which sports some additional air intake slits, presumably to feed more cooling air to the brakes. New six-spoke wheels also house what appear to be a revised braking system. The golden Brembo brake calipers were an ever-present feature even on the first GT-R prototypes, but they're a no-show on this tester. Could we be looking at an upgraded ceramic composite braking system?
With a curb weight of 3,836 pounds, the GT-R is no featherweight. And while the standard GT-R obviously overcomes any weight penalty in heroic fashion, it's compelling to imagine a GT-R that's some 300-plus pounds lighter. The V-Spec is rumored to shave at least that much weight thanks to the use of carbon fiber body panels, and other assorted techniques. The prototype photographed has a portion of its rear wing blacked-out, suggesting it is one of the carbon fiber pieces that will make up the V-Spec package.
Once this GT-R is fully prepped for testing duty we hope to get a closer look to assess any other weight-saving steps Nissan may have taken.

Nissan GT-R Spec V: 2010 Nissan GT-R Spec V? (http://jalopnik.com/376759/2010-nissan-gt+r-spec-v)

This is the road-going V-Spec. Sources suggest 550hp and 1590kg. Note the ceramic brakes.

I really....REALLY...want a GTR...mora than any Audi besides an R8.

Yes! I said it!

I will GO one step further, I prefer a GT-R over every Audi on sale at the moment.
Only a 5.2 V10 FSI HR engined RS5 can maybe win me over.
The Audi R8 is in a complete different price range then the GT-R.

I see you are starting to hint at something I wrote over two months ago. :D

Remember the torque figure of 500Nm. ;)

Yes i know, i think with some tuning :mech: we can end up with Gallardo 560-4 power output.
Imagine a 560 hp RS5 5.2 V10 FSI HR. :jlol:

Why are you sure that Audi will put this heavy V10 engine in front of Rs5?
and not light-weighted turbo-charged engine?

Because the 5.2 V10 FSI will be the same light weight V10 as in the Gallardo 560-4.
I have heared that the new engine is 20 Kg lighter then the old one.
Turbo's and intercoolers ad weight to the V8.

I can't confirm this for certain but I was told that the RS4 and RS5 will run a different path in terms of power source. Whether this will still be the case when the RS4 reaches to showrooms is a different matter, a lot can change in the motor industry.

I take it everyone's heard about the unconfirmed lap times? 7:25 with predictions of 7:20 being possible. This is getting silly.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/news/default.asp?storyId=17865

A prototype Nissan GT-R V-Spec has been spotted at the Nurburgring lapping at least 13 seconds quicker than the standard car.

The GT-R has already been proving its Porsche 911 Turbo-killing performance, but it looks like the new one can take on a Carrera GT around the ‘Ring.

The V-Spec prototype was spotted this week during an endurance shakedown, featuring a new front splitter, redesigned rear spoiler and new wheels.

The ‘Victory Spec’ car has apparently lapped the Nordschleife in less than 7min 25sec.

Walter Röhrl lapped the Ring in 7:28 while driving a Carrera GT in 2004.

Insiders at Nissan claim that the V-Spec is in fact capable of lapping the ‘Ring a full 18 seconds quicker than the standard car.

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/08/nissan-gt-r-v-spec-lap-times-stun-observers/

The prototype Nissan GT-R V-Spec, wearing the "Victory Specification" designation reserved for the ultra high-performance Nissan GT-R, has been caught lapping the famed Nürburgring at an incredible, if not simply unbelievable, 7:25 per lap. This, according to bystanders trackside. (For comparison, Walter Röhrl lapped the Ring in 7:28 while driving a Porsche Carrera GT in 2004.)

In contrast to the standard Nissan GT-R, that made the run around the 'Ring in 7:38, the GT-R V-Spec has a new front splitter, modified rear spoiler, and different wheels. A more extensive use of carbon fiber has reportedly reduced the weight by upwards of 330 pounds. Of course, Nissan engineers also tweaked the twin-turbo powerplant for another 70 horses... or so.

Sorry to say this fella's but, I dont like it...

Seriously, its not at all good looking is it, yes a grant you that its stats are really impressive, esp for the price band its in, but it really doesnt look good.

Can honestly say that this is better looking than all of the current Audi's at present, RS4, RS6, R8, S5,??

Taste is a personal thing.
I like the GT-R it's very progressive looking especially with Powerhouse Amuse rearspoiler and front splitter.

+1

I saw it at geneva (and the huge crowd surrounding it lol) and walked right by. Very functional, very japanese. No one can argue with the technological achievement. Just not a fan of the styling/interior. Respect where its due though, I love how its aiming to shame porsche with its glacial evolution.

GTR is the only car in the world that I would swap my subaru for, especially V-spec, cause standard GTR, although freaking fast, is a heavy thing...

Nissan GT-R will be available in Russia in 2009.
Surely it will be a bargain comparing it to STI, Evo, 997TT and others
