there will not be any v12tdi or v10 r8 soon! we will have to wait minimum a year longer then planned. AND there will be a tdi r8 but a 4.2 v8 with 326hp

Audi has no reason to release new version of the R8 too early because the current one is an ultimate success in term of sales.

For the V12 tdi, my little finger has not heard anything good related to the gearbox...

Hmm... Waiting list is not long any more...
Check out current new available list in Germany:

10 new R8s...

Regarding R8 V10 here is short story...
Power and engine confirmed 5.2L V10 386kw/540Nm
6speed manual and R-Tronic
Intro-maybe even before Paris 2008
Sales start-end of 2008
Price wise-it seems that it will be marginally cheaper then facelifted 997 Turbo(!!!)
Performance wise 315km/h, 0-100km/h 4.0s, 0-200km/h: 12.8s
Styling difference:
- Different side blades that have a larger opening
- Oval exhaust outlets
- The front and rear bumpers have fewer louvers in them - only 2 per side instead of the 3 louvers on the V8 bumpers
- The rear bumper actually had a defined diffuser on it like the A4 DTM and RS6 have

There are currently 4(at least) R8 V10 on the road in Germany near Neckarsulm. Two are Daytona Grey, one Black and one Red.

im not sure why all the blogs have been so pessimistic about the diesel R8. withouht having any 'insider info' im 100% sure that audi will make a diesel r8 and probably a V12 TDI. this is part of their grand design. they woudlnt have wasted so much time and money on the LM program or this concept if they werent going to make the R8 TDI. audi's future is diesel and they cant sell that future without a flagship car like the R8 TDI. they have to win US over with halo cars before they can really go mass market with diesels across the board.

There is still quite a bit of work to be done on the R8 V12 TDI. Journalists have been able to drive it in Florida over the past weekend at ALMS and Autoweek, Edmunds.com, and Fourtitude.com have first impressions of their test-drives on their websites. The gear box is an issue, but the production V12 TDI will have a completely new one. They used an A4 gearbox for concept purposes only so no reason to knock the gearbox as it would not appear in its current state in the production version. There are other issues to work out with the body of the car itself, specifically the engine bay not large enough to accomodate the big engine, and the engine sits too high due to problems with the design of the dry sump. Everything Audi quattro GmbH is currently addressing. If a production version is made available, I doubt it would appear before 2010, and by then unfortunately, Porsche CEO and his CFO henchman along with Piech will be firmly planted on Audi's Board of Directors.

Also, with the R8 V8 4.2 selling so well, Audi does not want to introduce the V10 5.2 version too quickly as not to effect sales and residuals of the V8 4.2. Business and marketing decisions are at times hard to understand for us enthusiasts, but remember Audi is in business to make money first so we enthusiasts can have their toys.

kreso-

here in the US the V8 is marginally less than the 997 TT. the facelifted car should not be much more than that. that would make the V10 not much more than 15K USD than the V8. seems a little low, unless audi plans to keep the cost/attractiveness of the car down by selling it base without too many standard items. then again, the 09 V8 costs $3500 more than the 08 and the 10 V8 perhaps another $3500 more than that. that would put the 2010 V8 at 116K... making the V10 about 125K- almost dead on with the turbo, its competitor.

I understand your point very well...

Here are German(with Mwst.) prices for comparison:

R8 107K Euro
997 Turbo 140K Euro

R8 V10 133K-135K Euro(projected price)

Keep in mind that Porsche is actually underpricing their cars for USA...

I heard the reason is that already 4.500 R8's have been sold where only 3.000 were planned...why stop an ongoing success :thumb:
