It looks like we are just one year away from the first production diesel Porsche!

Cayenne diesel will be using VAGs (Audis) V6 biturbo TDI engine, developing 300 hps...

Only thing that confuses me is displacement of the engine (3.2l)...

So Porsche has Cayenne, FSI, VR6, and now diesel from VW/Audi. When is Audi getting some technology from Porsche?

It will be funny to listen to all of the Porsche purists that said things about diesels before.

Audi got the DSG from Porsche.

Jaguar had a commercial disaster with diesel cars. Why Porsche, which is the most profitable car maker in the world is taking this road ?

Good luck to their marketing staff !

Frederic,

Jaguar were in problems before the intro of diesel, diesel could have stemmed the fall in sales but unfortunately the diesels they provide while very good they didn't provide the performance considered acceptable for a Jag. The XF will turn Jaguar's sales around but will it be too little, too late.

As for Porsche, they need a diesel, in fact they need quite a few as their Co2 foot print is about to get them into problems with the EU. Why else are they looking to buy VAG, that will aid their overall Co2 level.

Will a diesel Porsche sell? Personally I believe if it's done right, with the right performance and handling while still felling sporty then the answer a definite YES. If BMW can make an impressive diesel worthy of consideration over the equivalent petrol then surely Porsche can do the same.

Porsche will not miss target with diesel. We can discuss do we love or not diesel engine in Porsche, but Cayenne diesel will find its market, and it is going to be big one.

If the world hadn't went into free fall then this 3.0TDi with 240hp would not have sold or did the job. But now economy and price are most important than outright pace, well at least for the Cayenne is will be OK. I would have preferred to see this engine but with either two turbos (aka BMW X5) or a minimum 265hp to position it above the Q7.

Expect more to come, the Panamera will also receive at least one possibly two diesels in the line up.

Yes, I'm also suprised to see this ''ordinary'' TDI in it, I expected that eagerly avaited 3.0 TDI bi turbo to be Cayennes diesel..., but as you said, there is more to come...
