The TT 2.8 R will be shown in Geneve Car Show, will be on position 14 on the Audi booth.

Wow ...

Would that be with the 2.8 FSI (210 bhp) from the A6? This would be a seminal TT I think.

i never read about that car. theres nothing about in magazines which are showing cars from the geneva show. the only audi they showed was the TT TDI. and for what stands the "R" in the 2.8 R ???

Ti-Mike
February 29th, 2008, 11:52
i have no clue i have just seen the plan of the Geneva saloon layout of audi and i have seen on position 14 will be a TT 2.8 R what ever this might be.

TT 2.8 R sound like a Concept car to me.:vhmmm:

http://www.autobild.de/ir_img/491185_6671985d34.jpg

2.8 can be the 210 hp 2.8 litre V6 FSI engine, and the "R" can be for "RWD" or "Retro"
It also can be a typo for 2.0 R or 2.3 R.

maybe TT RS concept?

That's also possible  but the question is what mean 2.8.

The engine will be a V8 version of the 210 horsepower 1.4TSI. For a total of 420 hp.

Just kidding. Audi only has one 2.8 right now, the 2.8 V6 as others have stated.

I still gamble on somekind of a conceptcar.

Might be the R of Roadster.

The Pretender

Might be the R of Roadster.
Ok that make it 3 options for the R.

1) RWD.
2) Retro.
3) Roadster.

Just left us with 2.8.

1) Litre.
2) ?
3) ?

or they decided the RS Version of the TT not to call TT-RS ..... just TT-R

i read on another german forum that someone who is working somehow for audi, said that they will call it TT-R not TT-RS ... maybe he was right

we'll see...

That is not new: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/coupes/preview-audi-tt-r (http://www.motorauthority.com/news/coupes/preview-audi-tt-r/)

But it will still not explane the 2.8.
The only option is a all new (3.6 VR6 FSI based) VR5 engine with 2.8 litre IMHO.

Seems there is something to look forward to for geneva after all :)
Let's see what that mystery Audi will be, or if it's just a typo in the plan.

AndyBG
March 1st, 2008, 12:48
That is probably typo, current Audis 2.8 V6 just don't have space to fit under the TT hood.

Personaly i hope it's the Retro NSU TT by Audi.
That car will have a rear engine with RWD when it comes and a longitudinal 2.8 V6 FSI will fit in there.

In that case, I think that 2.0T or future 2.3T would be Audis ''weapon of choice'', not 2.8..., there isn't anything interesting about that engine.

Idem ditto, but that still not explane the 2.8 .
The only engines that can be 2.8 litre are the mentioned V6 FSI Valve-lift engine and a complete new VR5 engine based on the 3.6 VR6 FSI engine.
A inline 5 can't have 2.8 litre, at the most 2.6 is possible.

BTW if you seen it what's more on the floor. ?
S4, Q5, R8 V10, S3 sportback, RS6 sedan. ???

TT 2.8 R
I did some math and it's quit simple to get a 2.8 litre VR5 FSI engine based on the 3.6 VR6 FSI engine.
The 2324 cm3 old VR5 engine had a bore of 81.0mm and a stroke of 90.2mm.
The 3598 cm3 VR6 engine have a bore of 89.0mm and a stroke of 96.4mm.
If Audi develop a new VR5 and give the engine a bore of 89.0mm and a stroke of 90.2mm you get a 2804cc VR5 FSI with a 10.6 degree V angle.
The engine can have between 218-234 hp as a N/A engine and 283-384 hp as a turbo.

The VR5 idea makes no sense in reality. Audi has a 2.0T engine that makes the same power.

Audi is developing a 5 cylinder TFSI engine (VR5 or inline 5) for sure.
But the TT 2.8 R bit is confusing.

That is alot of math'...

...I'm more with the opinion that Audi would use some of the existing power plants like 2.0T or that future 2.3T... We will have to wait and see for that one.

the new 2.8l engine with 210 hp, but that makes no sense, because 2.0 TFSI 200hp is already there. and that engine wont fit in the engine traverse

it seems like there will be the A3 Cabrio, the A4 Avant, the TTS/TTR (i mean that the TTR is really the Roadster version?!) and the RS6 Avant .... maybe a premiere a concept or something like that?!
