Love the fact that is not a drastic change from current model.

Like BMW, they make such a drastic change that the old model seems way too old.

I do like it but I can't shake the thought that the rear lightsets look like a Mondeo's...

I liked the B7 Avant rear better...

IMO the B7 model looks better than the new B8. The front section of the B8 is fine but there is something that repels the eye.
I think the B7, and it doesn't even have to be RS4 (which of course it's the best looking B7 A4 model), looks menacing in front and back. Even the B6 Avant looks better from behind than the new B8 Avant model.

Only the S5 and R8 can compete the agressiviness of a B7's front, as per now. I don't even like the nose of RS6, no need to mention regular A6.

But these are all matters of taste. Someone likes the mother and some other likes the daughter.

Good for me, as I don't need to replace my RS4 avant in a long time. Unless they don't do some miracles at quattro gmbh when building the new RS4 avant. I really hope they do...

Wow. Always good to see a mix of opinion. Interesting to see how we all see the same car in a different way.

Old vs New:

When I look at the new one I see a lot of the A6 is it's design which concerns me that we will got a diluted version similar to that of the RS6 instead of the aggressive stance that was the RS4 Avant.

What your opinions on this?

I'm not too worried about that at the moment. I'll explain why...

The RS6 is based on the A6 which is due to be replaced. However, the A4 is the all new B8 platform, as is the A5. Audi has shown that in it's latest design language it will include sharper side creases along the top and bottom of the doors and side panels etc. They are also going for a more cleaner look with grilles, lights and bumpers. ie. following the Nuvolari concept.

The A6 features some of these things such as the side creases but we wont see cleaner grilles and lights until the facelift comes. I think this is good for the next A6 because if it is already like the latest design language then Audi will have to do a LOT more to create a new generation A6. I also feel the reason why the RS6 is subtle is because of it's class. The M3 and RS4 have to be aggressive in their market but the M5 and RS6 can go for a more subtle yet aggressive look.

One thing I do worry about is how similar the A6 and A4 rear lights are now. That will change when the A6 is replaced maybe. One other thing is that the A4 is grown, will that affect A6 sales?

Infact, until the new A6 comes out which should be January 2011, we will have the facelifted A6 and new B8 A4 looking almost identical! That's actually annoying me now. C'mon Audi, a little more effort please. I love their designs, all they need to do is make them different instead of the "1 sausage, different lengths" approach"!

Radical designs are bad for resale value. Since Audi makes a big chunk of their sales to leasing companies, this is an important issue.

If the new car looks like the old car, it makes the old car look new.

And if the new A4 Avant looks like the A6 Avant, it makes the A6 look like a new car, increasing its design longevity. In 3-4 years leasing companies have to sell the old cars and recouperate some of their investment. So they will be happy that Audi keeps the old models looking fresh.

There is a lot of power in restraint. One of the things I find very attractive about the Audi sport models (with some exceptions) is that they don't flaunt their power, which makes them all the more menacing. Hilter, a 1930's German politician, used to wear common clothes while being surronded by men in fancy decorated uniforms. This send the subtle message that he was so powerful, he didn't need to accessories to prove it.

It's easy to act aggressive. In nature, it's a sign of fear, not strength.

Audi S-cars, and some of the older ///Ms,show power without aggression. That's what I like about them. I'd take a B6 S4 over the RS4 any day, and when I saw the new M3 for the first time at my BMW garage, I was disgusted by the body kit.

I agree. Where other brands use 'boldness' and radical design to differentiate between their models, Audi is all about subtlety. That's what makes it beautiful - you have to pay attention to its detail, which is after all one of the things they're renowned for, and you'll notice a lot of differences between each model.<O:p</O:p
