Well, we have certainly this test mark-up before (A4 winner every time) but this specific test is new I think. I take note of the fact that the A4 seems to be leaving the other with a larger margin than in the other tests.

In essence I think that the biggest loser is the Merc here since the BMW after all is older than the two others. It seems that Audi's new commonrail kit is a winner indeed not to mention the other fundamental qualities of the A4. I don't like the Merc in this markup and would rather have the Beemer as a second; the 318d sports a fine engine too.

Now, the real duel here though would be for Audi to spec the 2.0 TDI to take on the 320d and 220 CDI. That would be an interesting comparison too I think.

Mercedes is biggest looser, that is for sure, after all that 'big thing'' about new C class in the spring of '07, just six months later comes Audi with new A4, and BOOM !!!

Nockout, defenetly ! :hihi:

Audi will release new A4 with 2.0 TDI 170 hp engine, it will take on BMW 320 d and MB C 220 CDI.

Altough the 0-100km/h figures are pretty close, the fact that 80-120km/h put Audi at 12.9sec compared to 18.2s(BMW) and 17.6s(MB) is really nice, huge difference. Can that be true?
Also, audi got the best brakes clearly.

Out of 650 total points
Audi got 503,
MB 478 points,
BMW 474 points,
a clear first place.

Not bad at all, considering the other 2 cars are pretty/brand new.

I would imagine that the gearing of both the BMW and Mercedes is a lot taller than the Audi as this 80-120km/h test would have been carried out in 6th gear.

If I am correct in this the fact that the Audi was only 0.2L worse off in economy would lead me to think it's also the most economical engine if gearing was the same for all of them.

P.S.

But would we expect anything different from the best Car manufacturer in the world.

Yes it can, partly because of the gearing like leadfoot said, but i suppose mainly because of torque at other revs.

The new 2.0TDI is by far better than BMW's 320d, after experiencing both, although not as fast, of course. This engine is really as good, as critics make it.
