With Audi’s RS6 pumping out 580hp thanks to its force-fed V10 engine, BMW is tipped to be testing a prototype of its M5 saloon with a pair of blowers attached, possibly for a midlife upgrade, to match its rival. Several tuning companies, however, have already proven that a turbocharged M engine can do wonders, and one such company is G-Power.

The German tuner has a twin-turbo version of the M5 with around 730hp on tap with just 0.5bar of boost pressure. That’s close to a 50% increase on the standard M5’s 507hp output, and the standard car is by no means slow.
At the recent Nardo high speed test, the Hurricane M5 reached a top speed of 322km/h but had to give up because of an electronic problem. According to developers, it can easily reach speeds of above 350km/h.
The engineers are already at work to build a version that can run 1.0bar of boost for an output above 800hp. G-Power is expected to reveal full details about the latest tuning pack at the end of the month.

Optically I do like it - strongly reminds me of the new M3 - which I also like.
As for the values - hmm would be intresting so see how stable that machine is running; at least when remindining the fact, that they had big cooling issues with the engine with the "normal" e60 m5 ... well ... let's see how good g-power solved that problem.

I like the styling but the traction lads, the traction :mech:! I mean, won't all these hp get burnt off on the pavement everywhere else than on the Nardo high speed ring?

Oh and what about the SMG box, can it muster the upgrade. Pretty impressive if it can!

Bottomline, I like what I see but I would rather have a stock M5 or of course the new RS6.

considering how many problems people have had with the SMG gearbox, i doubt it's going to hold with that much power.

And i think i read a few years back a stupid article in R&D where it was said that BMW was far superior to Audi (M5 vs RS6) because BMW could acheive what audi was struggling to, with NA engines... Oh and now they're back into turbos?? LMAO!!

When I just remeber all those years braging about N/A engines and ''smoothness'', and now, BMW is all over turbos... :hihi:

Actually I remember reading somewhere that this was the reason why the M5/6 didn't increase their torque figures over the old E39 M5, the gearbox had to be smaller and lighter as it weight balance was shifting uncomfortably towards the front end.

This new DSG box they have is meant to cope with a lot more torque than M engines are currently producing so chances are any mid-cycle improvements will include this gearbox and an increase in both power and torque.

I don't think BMW would put 800hp or more
mabey 600 or close to 700hp
and what's the top speed of the new RS6?

New ''facelifted'' BMW e60 M5 is roumered to be bi-turbo, developing 575 hp...

no matter what, i have "respect" (although i don't "respect" a car) for the M5, i once "raced" one on the highway with my s6, and it completly destroyed me!! But it's ugly.

Anyway, i doubt BMW would ever put more than 650 HP car on the road in the form in an M5, it's just too much, way too much... in my opinion it would be negative for their image, people would say they are just way over the top! However i think people thought like me a few years back, about having a 500 HP saloon car... ach... who knows!

The cars get heavier all the time. So even 650hp will not be that much of a big deal in a few years.

People, if new M5 will have 575 hp then it will blow off new RS6 because of RWD /AWD issues

If they do go down the turbo/supercharger route and it has similar outputs to the RS6, then I totally agree that in a straight line the M5 will destroy the RS6. Well that is if only it could put the power to the road which in rwd form will have real problems.

When it comes to a corner, things for the M5 will become even worse, that big bang of torque will have that tail of it's all over the place.

So for BMW to make a car with the same amount of power as the RS6 they will have to give it awd and you know what that will mean.

Yeah, no quicker after all. :lovl:

I can't imagine an M-engine wil get a Turbo or charger from the BMW factory.
But we wil see.

Other rumour:

The new 5.5 Litre updated V10 engine that is coming out late next year for the updated M5 & M6. It states that power will go from the current 373 Kw (507 Bhp) to 415kW (565 Bhp).

BMW will do something about M5s engine, that is for sure, but witch way will they choose to go, that is the question.

I can believe it. The current M5 engine makes around 534ps(526bhp) in reality and 565bhp is only a chip away.
