for so long, i try to combine track + people moving into one car. i've had 1/4 mile racing turbo IS300, GS300s. autocrossing rx8s, wrx, etc....

but i've been fine with the RS6+240sx combo (the rs6 is too luxurious to run around a track with !! :). and then again, the 240sx is such a POS. I don't want to sink more money into it to get it comfy and decent looking.

so my plan is...

a.) replace the 240sx with an in warranty nismo 350z
b.) replace the rs6 with an old M5 or even 540

these are my options on my limited budget

 I must say that I don't get this... ?

Is your RS 6 giving you problems or you aren't satisfied with it... ?

e39 M5 is great car, but older car, by all mens, and its performance can hardly match the RS 6s. It is too luxurious for track as RS 6 is...

Enlighten me ! :D

sadly, this is purely financial.

the m5 or 540 can be purchased for about 15-20k and will just be used when i need to carry more than one passenger.

the 350z is track car/car to use when it's just me + my son. ((my 240sx is always breaking, I need to strip the sr20 motor down to the ground to get it to run right after working on it for 1.5 years, it's still not reliable transpo. - the 350Z has a warranty and I will drive it hardest. sadly the 350z comes with a pretty big car pmt))

i'm very satisfied with the rs6, infact it really shows me how f'ing slow the 306hp 350Z is!! i have a big loan on it :(.

in summary i'm going from
[cheap track car] + [expensive luxury car]
to
[expensive track car] + [cheap luxury car]

Very unique color! I first thought it was the camera and/or the internet was playing tricks as it usually does.

i always ask passengers what color they think it is. I usually get 'black' but when i park in the sun it's 'purple'

haha, in fact no one says 'black cherry pearl!' :(

Well you won't have any problem selling it. That's a reasonable price and the color will bring buyers.

As someone who was recently considering the same cars as you, I can say with some expertise that I don't believe you're going to be happy with any M5's at $20k. At that price you will only find high mileage cars, or ones from the 1997-2000 era without the upgrades that were made in 2002.

If it's just a luxury street cruiser you want, I would just start with looking at some nice 540 examples where you also can get an automatic transmission.

Make sure to let the new RS6 owner know about this site! Good Luck :)

For a decent quality E39 M5, you're going to need to boost your budget to around $30K. And to be quite honest with you, for someone who's always held BMW in semi high esteem, I took a ride in an E39 at a local dealership ($28K but was willing to move for $24K) and literally said to the sales guy, "what a piece of shit" the interior appointments are horrendous and maybe just because I was in a bad model but man, I totally lost respect for E39 after that ride.

So when it's all said and done, you're talking about $35K~$40K for a Nismo 350Z (which AFAIR isn't THAT much better than a stock 350Z) and another $30K for a "decent" E39 M5. For me, the math doesn't really add up unless your 240 (S14?) is just totally shot...

i'ts just a lil' S13. :( ((emphasis on the "S" :) ))

i know i can get a cherry 540 (like one from diablo motors) for $15-16 and a high mileage e39 m5 for $21k (<-- maybe be asking for trouble). i bought the nismo already for $35k, and a nice 'new car sized apr%' :).

For me, if I were in your shoes, I'd rather go for a cherry 540 rather than a E39 M5, especially since it's not going to be your primary vehicle. Better to go in comfort than to have an M emblem but a shitty ride.

I agree. But, if it was my choice and I was looking for a luxury car at that price, I would prefer a 740i, an A8 or S8.

Well, I think at that price range ~$20K, it would be even one more generation previous.

Just curious how fast is the RS6 you are selling? I am pretty new to the Audi's having just picked up a new 08 S6 for the wife a few months back.
Thanks, John

This car is similar in age and mileage to the $20,000 e39 M5's you'll find (or 2002 S6's or '03/'04 MB E500's). So do you want cherry-ness or juicy power?
