I know a bit offtopic, but are there plans that the 1.8 TFSI gets quattro?

I don't expect to see 1.8 T quattro, don't know tough is Audi planing 2.0 T in A5, that we could see with quattro.

What's the reason for not offering DSG? Are you sure that it's Tiptronic and not R-Tronic?

Definitely Tiptronic (now with rev-matching downshifts).

1.8T A5 can be ordered right now in Europe. We still don't know which (1.8T or 2.0T) will go to the US.

Dear Damienr8,

first longitudinal based Car to get S-Tronic will be the Q5. (scheduled 3rd Quarter 2008)

Yes, it is the latest stage of the 6-speed Tiptronic.

Qisha

PS: but you will see the S-Tronic before in the TTS.

Just to confirm Qisha, this latest Tiptronic does rev-match on downshifts, correct?

Qisha,

The S-Tronic in the Q5 is to be 7speed, isn't this correct. Now you say that we will see the S-Tronic in the TTS, I take it you are once again talking about a 7speed version.

few questions:

1::: S-Tronic = DSG?
2::: dont you think too that audi needs to much time to bring out the 7speed and 8speed gearboxes??? i mean BMW has with the M5 2003 a 7speed SMG and audi has for the new RS6 just a 6speed. ok a fast one. but i cant wait for the 7speed and 8speed automatic or manuel?? i dont know are these DSG then or normal automatic?

1: Yes S-Tronic is the same as DSG.
2: Audi HAS made a 8speed automatic. All Multitronic in the new A4/A5 have a 8speed manual shifting mode.

The eventual application of DSG is said to be a 7-speed, yes.

Dear Leadfoot,

the S-tronic used in the Q5 is different to the one already available, yes. The TTS will get a modified S-tronic as well as a manual Gearbox to choose between.

So it's still got 6 gears then, I understood that VAG are working on a 7 speed version of the transverse DSG.

When you say modified, does this mean it will hold on to the gears instead of automatically shifting up when the rev limit is reached.

Leadie.

What about DSG for the S5 and potential RS5??

AndyBG

I expect that S5 will get Tiptronic, while RS 5 gets S-tronic (DSG)...

I would have thought it the other way..........wont the S-tronic have issues with the high HP of the RS5?

One thing I can tell you for definate, the RS5 WILL have DSG/S-Tronic and there is no issues with how much torque it can cope with as the RS5 has it by the bucket load. ;)
