I attended an Audi event today, a first hand experience of the upcoming 2008 Audi A4, which took place at Gotland Ring, a pretty new swedish race track situated on the island Gotland.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that they had pulled the new, upcoming Audi RS6 to display for us  (Yesterday it was journalists who attended the track, but then the RS6 was safely hidden away from them for obvious reasons :hahahehe: )

We got a good first hand view, and had the opportunity to check it out and ask questions about it. Later they started it up for us to listen to the gutteral sounds of a V10 with twin turbos, which I can assure was something other than your average station wagon!

I'll try to upload the clip on to youtube.com and post a link here soon!

Now, that's not an A4 Avant..?

Hm, LED's.... Now this looks reeally promising.. :wo:

I gotta get a sneak preview...Oh! Hello there huge, beautiful 19 inch of carbon thingy!

A few hours later... revelation, finally! :applause:

Beautiful in white (This is the car from Tokyo Motor Show, ie. not really a production car, since they are being produced from week 04 -2008)

Nice LEDs

Not much space left around the engine

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/7381/37894469gr7.jpg

This car is seriously good looking from every angle.. asking price just over a mil. swedish kronor (~ € 110 000/ $ 150 000 USD incl. taxes)
http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/7507/16643065jd2.jpg

And oh, we drove the sh*ite out of the new 2008 Audi A4 on track, slalom and road as well.. 3.2q manual and 2.7tdi aut. was the ones I had the opportunity to test, really good, neutral with not much understeer at all! :stick:

http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/5523/11tb1.jpg

We had a Swedish instructor from Audi Driving Experience in Germany, with his wife, who showed us ideal lines and helped us to get around Gotland Ring really fast after some practise. She had absolutely no problem at all dusting us all in a 2.0TDI while we were chasing her with 2.7TDI's.. nice to be beaten by a lady for a change.. :hihi:

http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/1879/12cz1.jpg

Really nice of Audi to fly us over to Gotland Ring for a great day on the track, really appreciated! :incar:

Now, here's the vid! Idle + some revving.. :)

Wow is all I can say. That car looks to have the balck optics pack so look increadibly mean. The white looks stunning, the 20" titanium finish wheels, the huge 275 tires, the 16.5" ceramic discs, the rear diffuser....I could go on.

Thank you so much for posting and if you youtube the sounds of the V10TT then please let us know the link.

Very nice! Sounds much better then the M5 when idle.

Like Clarkson said, the M5 really does sound like a diesel :(

I think you can actually hear it on the vid, on startup, there was this really raw powerboat/tractor-like sound, before engine settled to normal idle-RPM and so on..

Why answer your own question? That price is way off. Expect $120k max fully loaded. Also, I think you mean an '08 M5.

If the US get the RS6, which I can tell you from a recent chat still seems unlikely, but if it comes you most expect to pay top dollar but that is the chat coming from Audi, this car will not be sold at a price, regardless of the market.

Considering how many old RS6 i see on the streets, compared to the number of old/new M5's, I'd say this will over time be a quite common sight in Stockholm..

Actually, Audi has sold more B7 RS4's than S4's I was told at this event (don't know if this was swedish market, or in total though)

Special Internet Price; TAKE $2,500.00 Off MSRP!

from my local BMW dealer, so throw in a few options and I'm still shy of $100K. Now, I don't want to diminish the value of what Audi has done with the new RS6 and 500+ HP from a 4-door "family" car (and in a wagon version), but $150K?? The competition in that range gets pretty tough.

You are comparing apples with oranges.. and no one has stated a validated price for US Market to my knowledge, yet - and you can't really convert Swedish market price, since we pay 25% VAT - I think price will be matched pretty well to an M5 Touring, per HP, actually (ie. +10-20%, tops..)

dimitristx,

What are you complaining about, you can get your M5 already.

You are complaining about what might be the price of the RS6 in the States and this is without Audi official saying that it's even coming, the dealers might be saying it because at present Audi don't have any plans to and they are wanting to show there is the interest there to push Audi into saying OK.

'If' Audi do bring it to the States do you not think then is the time to complain about it.

dimitristx

will stay away from bringing the RS6 to the US market, after all.

Once again, I highly doubt it will be 150k. DuckWingDuck is correct.

Now, even if it runs to $120k, there is a lot of competition but for me part of the appeal of the RS6 is owning a car that costs the same as a 997Turbo and can run with one yet only people in the know realize this. I persoanally could never drive a Bentley so I'm pleased that Audi make cars that allow us petrolheads to stay under the radar.

Carl, here's the thing though, as Ben said when we were at the Audi Show, the GT2 is about $180K, at that point you can buy 2 GT-R (Nissan) AND still have enough money left over to buy a commuter car. They pull the same basic numbers so can you really justify spending that kind of cash for a GT2?

Same thing here, at $120K (let's not even talk about $150K), undoubtedly the RS6 but is it justifiable to spend THAT kind of money?

You and Ben make a good point but I really have no need to own more than one car. (in the clutch I can borrow my girlfriend's). Now I agree that the GT2 makes little sense as the Turbo is quicker in the real world and the GT3RS cheaper and a purer driving experience but for some people they will want it regardless. Some do it to show off, others, like me, do it because they have their heart set on a car and are so stubborn even an inflated MSRP won't stop them. However, paying dealer markups is something I shall never do.

LOL, obviously I didn't mean to imply that you'd buy 2 of the same car, though I know plenty of people who do but rather that's to demonstrate the sheer difference in pricing. Ultimately, as you said, people will buy what their heart and their budget allows them to buy.

I realize that, Greg (I hope that's your name). I just meant that the price of the car doesn't really put me off as I will have a one car garage. :rs6kiss: You know plenty of people who buy the same car? I know of only one, he had two same model Range Rovers (him and his wife). I just never understood it, personally.

Now, I can't wait to add to my stable in coming years when a family is on the way. The GL550, CayenneTT, forthcoming X5iS will make great kiddie haulers for when gf becomes wifie and so on and so forth.

I *love* that engine but I cannot quite admire the Q7s looks. It is growing on me but, like the great job Porsche did with the new 08 Cayenne compared to its predecessor, a thorough overhaul may necessary before I'd actually send my money on one.

I know a guy who's got 2 Z06s, one for the track and one for a daily driver. So, it's along those lines. I think there's somebody that posts on here who's got 2 RS6s!

Personally, I'm not a giant fan of SUVs, I'd much rather get a wagon. Speaking of which, I saw a fully decked out E63 at Starbucks the other day with the license plate "MOMTAXI". Hi-larious.

Many of the E63 wagons around here (they're rare but there are more than you'd think) are debadged and gray or black. Now that's a sleeper/ wicked sense of humor.

There's one kicking around with the plate "GRCRY GETR" too, so legend has it.
