Man, the AMG really have upped the game. M3 is just not special enough compared to the rivals to be an obvious choice, not like last time.

I was so surprised.........I thought 1st place should be C63, RS4 & M3.....:brag:

Well depends what your looking for. This is the core of the debate. However I don't thinkd the RS4 deserves last ranking.

Are the availabilities accurate? Because in that case the RS4 will still be the king of the streets for some time!

I had my RS4 in May 2006 (one of the very first here in Canada) and look to what we are comparing now:
C63 last quarter 2008 (that's 2.5 years younger)
M3 first quarter 2009 (and here we are getting really close to 3 years... let's be honest, not too many will get on the road during winter time)

Any body finds that to be a fair comparaison?!

So being the third (and by a really close margin) in that comparaison makes me really happy!

Sorry to burst your bubble about the old car but it wasn't that special, especially not to own, that what I hear when I listen to my brother-in-law who has had M cars 5 out of his last 6. He doesn't rate the E46 and much preferred to older E36, but he does happen to like the new one and thinks it's a step in the right direction and is also considering one to replace the E46 he has. By the way this is the same guy who has the Z4M Coupe and hardly drives it, the worst M car ever he says.

The problem with roadtesters is that when you are driving different cars all the time it takes something special to jump out at you and make you take note. The old M3 did that, because it was more extreme than the rest and that is why it almost always got the vote. But the living with the thing was where it fell down and in numerous reviews of 'Long term cars' in the different magazines the E46 M3 didn't get the glowing reports that the brief roadtests did, where as the Audi cars always got this the other way round, they didn't shine in the roadtest but did as a long term review.

Personally I want a car to be enjoyable for more than a brief blast in the countryside or on a track, maybe this is where the new M3 differs and why it's not stand out as much as before. All the better for it, I say.

I'm not surprised it got beat, you have to remember that it is the one going out of production, even Stateside so it would look so 'last year' to give the vote to something to wasn't hip and happening right now like the other two are.

The RS4 is right up there with the others and in an ideal world it the one I would have had. No doubt it's still the best option to own. :thumb:

Question on the C63. There is a DMS chip for the CL63 to take power to 562bhp. Will it do the same job on the C63?

That would make it shift.:incar:

....if only they did manuals.

I saw no problems with owning the previous M3. Dude, I kept it outside, I would come out some mornings and it would be covered literally in 20-30 centimeters of snow in -20C weather. :snow: I would wake up, start the car (started ALWAYS on the first try) then go wash up, have breakfast, then go drive. Never had ANY problems, despite the occasional (once a week) 1-2 inches of fresh snow on the ground. In fact the only car I ever got stuck in was my old AWD X-Type. My Mom has had a string of 911s as daily drivers.

If E46 was too extreme for you, pipe and slippers man, maybe you should start thinking about a Volvo station wagon for all those week-end fox-hunting trips. :jlol:

in that case the RS4 will still be the king of the streets for some time! And the next appearing RS4 will get the
royal crown back :applause: ......

but not won against M3 or C63 but passed by the RS5.

Audi is very well situated with the upcoming RS6 and RS5 for the next
years and can quiet develop on the future....

This test shows a no longer built car competing against coming High-End
bolids ! Another result would mean disgrace for BMW & MB....:hihi:

Greetz... Pit

Well, when the outside temperature drops to the level of the Moscow Counter Offensive, one might be concerned for the performance of his German motor.

I wasn't doubting the E46 M3 durability or it's reliability, all I was informing you was that in long term roadtests it wasn't enjoyed as much as a brief two days roadtest, this is something that Audis always seem to be the opposite with.

Yes, all high performance cars are vulnerable, but M's are very special.
After a 850CSi and at last E39 M5 i moved to Audi.

1. BMW desings cars for the first 100tKm and does not care about
used car buyers

2. M's are by far not as reliable as Audis

Just my experience.
