View Full Version : The ULTIMATE thread about the new Audi RS6 (C6)

Erik
October 23rd, 2007, 18:24
We do a lot of fun things here. But this is RS6.com after all so I figured we needed the ultimate thread about the new RS6.

These are my best pictures from the World Premiere at IAA 2007 Frankfurt exhibition. Unfortunately the crowd around the white RS6 Avant made it a bit hard to photograph.
I will add more information as time goes by, and hope others can help of course.
Together we'll make this thread the best source of information.

If you're not a member here, or would like to be "unofficial", but still would like to contribute please send me an e-mail and I can post it for you.

Anyone knows anything new regarding the RS6?

The best check are races. Not important what: street or official. If RS6 will tear all successively (BMW M3&&5, the Mercedes SLK/AMG, etc.) -
then it costs the spent money

My dealer also said November for the prices and options but now he's saying December. Having said that, he doesn't seem that clued up...didn't even know the same of the new blue (which I'd found out fairly easily via the internet). He's a nice chap and all that but it's not very inspiring.

Does anyone know if it's possible to collect your new car direct from the factory/GmbH? I'm quite keen to pick it up then drive it back here (UK).

Here in the US, most of the German manufacturers have an "European Delivery Option" where you go to the factory, pick up your car, drive around for a few days and then drop it off at a port for it to be containered here. I'd imagine that there would be something similar offered to those who reside in Europe.

So after the dealer intially saying November for price list and options (and therefore ordering :jlol: ) he then phoned in Nov to say December. Now he's phoned to say it will be the second week in Jan. Seeing as he's given a more specific timeframe, hopefully it will indeed be then...

Anybody else heard anything?

Me too - it definitely seems to have gone quiet. I pop in to the showroom when I'm passing (about once a month) and all he ever has to say is "you're first on the list!" which, yes, is good but I'm not that hyped about being first. I just wish he had more details. Hopefully the audi website will have some useful info when the time comes - Erik's brochure has been great to look at too.

I presume those cars are made for media and very VIP-persons then (Ekström etc).

Still think its very odd that one still cant spec a car, delivery is said to be april-may at the latest...

Audi should watch themsleves, badwill is not a good thing. Perhaps they should have made an effort so the customers could be able to order their cars, I mean, these days the economy is shaky and the climate-debate might get people to change their minds.

Hello and a Happy New Year to You all.

To start off with some interesting info from latest Auto Zeitung (German car magazine) December 2007.

1. Audi RS6 have started produktion and starting price in Germany is
€ 106.900 . Ceramic brakes are optional at € 8000. The sedan version is to start produktion in may/june starting price is € 104.650. I have also posted this before but now it is confirmed. http://www.rs6.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12993&page=14

2. Boost pressure is 0.7 bar from the turbos. I have seen this been asked for sevral times and thought some of you would like to know.

3. The V10 engine used in this car should by no means be compared to the V10 in the S6 and S8.This power plant is complitly another engine. Natrium filled exhaust valves, weighted and hand made pushrods in titan are fitted in the RS6.

4.top speed is limited to 250 km/h but is possible to set to 280 km/h for extra €. Theoretical top speed should be around 306-310 km/h.

5. The 2 turbos used in this engine are relatively small but very responing on the whole range. They are also built in and together with the exhaust manifold, so the problems with cracking manifolds (ie RS4 2001-2004) should be solved. Also this may stick some problems into after market tuning in the starting period of the car.:mech:

Many thanx for youre time.

you're welcome

i did some search on AutoBild and found this:

"Die RS-6-Limousine folgt Ende 2008, kurz nach dem Facelift für alle A6."
(RS6 Saloon will follow at the end of 2008, just after the facelift for all A6)

I take a look at the magazine tomorrow again in the shops, just to be sure what exactly is written in the current mag because I had somthing similar in mind like tonsberg and am a bit surprised of what I saw now at the homepage.

so far from AutoBild.de:

RS6 Saloon end 2008
S4 for November
Q7 V12 in between of S4 and RS6 saloon
Q5 September
TT summer and A3 Facelift

don't have the mag next to my hand for now, sry

My dealer made a uick pricesheet of some, i hope god there is more, options on the new RS6.

No news really, the Sport Suspension with three levels are about 1 200 euros.

The V-max is about 2000 euros and includes a designpackage in carbon in the engine bay.

The sheet did not have any prices for the Sport exhaust (a must), no line assist an no black optics. Nor the titaniumrims that I really want.

Parkingassist Advanced (with camera?) is quite cheap, 600 euros.

Ipod connection is 300 euros, advanced key about 1300 euros. DVD navi 2900 euros.

Those are killer priced options you have in Sweden. That stuff (like Nav/advanced key) should be free on such an expensive car. Of course Audi is probably only following the Porsche way of business, make options (that should be standard) cost 30% of starting price.

It's all very disappointing really, given the cost of the car and Audi's image - as if once they've got your money off the back of the hype, they're not really all that interested.

Erik
January 4th, 2008, 13:10
I think one of the problems is that Audi has not such a big experience in selling high end, high cost cars. Compare with AMG for instance who have been doing it for some 20+ years. Now I know the AMG buying experince isn't flawless, but it's no excuse for Audi when they're entering a "new" market.
To "invest" in an RS6 is a lot of money. You could buy a nice house for the same amount of money in some parts of Sweden.
You should expect the best service and nothing else.

I had similar problems when I specced my A6 2.7T a few years back.
At the end the sales guy just gave me the dealer's price list (quattro GmbH) and said find it yourself.
Now I was happy with that, and happy with the car.

Another problem is that they earn more money (totally, incl service etc.) if they sold 3-4 standard A3s instead of one RS6. (a bit of guess work from my side, but probably not far from the truth, give or take.)
And selling a standard A3 is a no hassle, straight out of the price list deal for the sales guy.

The press will get their first drives in January...let's wait! :)

Erik,

Excellent post! I had similar experience with my Audi dealer here. He is pretty helpfull but, in the end I specd the car(R8) by myself. Even guyy responsible for communication directly with the factory(and quattro GmbH) was not the most knowledgeble person... So, I decided to go directly to the Neckarsulm in end of January for a visit.

For example be very carefull with Audi Exclusive items(specially leather Packages)! Sometimes you imagine in your head how should it look and when car arrives-it is not IT! So, doubl check everything in case you are ordering any Exclusive items on R8 or RS6 Avant...

The biggest problem here is that the forum members here are way ahead of time with info on this car. When it was shown at Frankfurth the Audi Representative said that no cars for dealers (Germany)before March erliest. We can not suppose to get answers from a Swidish or Norwegian dealer on these matters before late January, I would think. There is circulating more info on the RS6 on this forum than any dealer would know of.... As they are only relying on info from their German Audi contact.

Also, 40 cars for Sweden this year, this is a very high number. Will there be buyers for all these cars ??? Norway are expecting to sell 3-5. Maybe 10 total.

This is Correct and also let me explain how this production works; These RS6 cars who are produced now and untill end January are all ; press/audi AG/Show cars/ German dealer show cars.
These cars are all pre speced with fixed equipment and extras not possible to change. If you are a German dealer and put yourself in for getting a RS6 you will have the car early in time, but you can not change the spec and extras on it. Not even the colour outside or inside. You have to take what you get. These cars are also sold from the factory with a little more discount to the dealers and they are so called intro-cars.

I just think we all have to be patient a little while longer.

Another thing: If you take the price list for extra equipment for S8 and compare it to the extras on the RS6 it should not be to far away moneyvise.

Also one last thing. Those of you who have already bought a Audi with Quattro GMBH spec extras, or a RS car know that every thing that goes trought quattro GMBH is never on time and always take a little bit longer to deliver... Either its an exclusive painting or some hide/lether on the dashboard from Quattro GMBH it will be due late.

For example be very carefull with Audi Exclusive items(specially leather Packages)! Sometimes you imagine in your head how should it look and when car arrives-it is not IT!

I remember a friend who order his M5 E39 with a lot of special interior.
I don't think I have pics of it still, but it was a green on green (I think) and it was just horrible. We all had a laugh, it was a very special car indeed. :hihi: :trash:

The biggest problem here is that the forum members here are way ahead of time with info on this car.

Very true! Things move very quickly and a lot of the "rumors" we hear from exhibitions, sources etc. aren't official. Altough the options etc. may be real, the information doesn't get to the dealers in time. But they need a lot of education as well. Just look at all the engine alternatives on a model like the A4.
When I visited the Ingolstadt factory I think they mentioned the number of combinations on how to build an A3 is so big almost every car is uniqe.

Also true. You have to expect longer delivery using Audi Exclusive but hopefully it is worth it. Now where is my RS6 Avant with Suzuka Grey Pearl effect...?

At last, thanks a lot tonsberg31 for your contribution/donation today to the forum :asian:  :asian:

Dear tonsberg31,

true words! There is not more to say. But let me bring the Service Knowledge in. Actually the new RS6 is by far the most painful car to service, yet. Just think about how narrow the Enginebay is-, as well as the whole drivetrain including DRC. Just like it is handled with the R8 for example, you can expect only special certified Dealers to sell and service the car. Thoughts are even going in a direction where you may find a special national Audi R/RS Servicecenter for qualified assistance. As there has been unnecessary service recalls/rework due to unrefined service personal.

Give your local Dealer a chance to learn about new Cars. It takes them longer to achieve the same level as most of the Friends here share. As well they can only pass on information they received, and as you might know, they do not have a advantage.

If you do know everything in advance, it takes away the thrill of anticipation. ;)

This place is unique, great members, knowledge and (most of the time) respectful behaviour. :thumb: :applause:

you're welcome

i did some search on AutoBild and found this:

I've the mag right next to me at the moment, nothing really new, but AutoBild is always right ( well most of the time ;))

Autobild:

Audi glitters with an explotion of premieres in 2008.
The first is the all new A3 Convertible with 4 engines from 105 to 200HP and a price lower than 28k
Similar expansive - the new A4 Avant. Engines from 125 to 265HP (like saloon so far).
At the very top of the HP-hierarchy is the RS6 Avant with 580HP
All three are released in May 2008
The RS6 Saloon will follow short after the faclift of A6 at the end of 2008
Summer 2008 we'll have the A3 facelift and the TTS with a 275HP strong 2.0T
September is the month of the Q5 with a price round 38k.
For the end of 2008 Audi pushes it to the hardest with the introduction of the S4 Saloon and Avant with 354HP and the top-model Q7 V12 TDI.
And may be an eyecatcher for 2009 will be shown in late 2008, too - the A5 convertible.

so far from Autobild

RS6 saloon production starts in may and sale is in autumn

uuh, 9 pages... what does it say?

It says the New RS6 is bad ass, will be fast as crap and is expensive as hell!

Other then 580bhp, 20inch wheels, Ceramic Brakes here's another of the neat new features of the new RS6:

If desired, Dynamic Ride Control in the new RS 6 Avant can be supplemented with optional three-stage shock absorption. This version is called sport suspension plus and allows drivers to individually adjust the driving experience to suit their own personal preferences or the route they are traveling. In the “comfort” setting, sport suspension plus provides remarkable ride comfort. In the “dynamic” mode it adjusts superbly to an enthusiastic driving style, and in the “sport” mode it delivers maximum driving precision.

I better start saving my allowance!

Some news:

Sport Exhaust and Side Assist will be avaliable from week 22.

There will be NO B&O-soundsystem for the RS6, or for the new facelifted A6-model. Only Bose will be avaliable.

Actually, I had heard (somewhere, and can't remember when or where) that there would be no B&O to start with but it would become an option later...

(Like the sports exhaust)

It wasn't from another RS6'er, I think it was from an Audi document somewhere.

Update - I've heard via my dealer (so may not be completely true) that the RS6 list in the UK is full - you can't put your name down to order a new one anymore (mine went down months ago). Allegedly the options/sepc pricing list is coming out "soon".

AndyBG
January 31st, 2008, 18:41
What you exatcly mean by ''full''... ?

For this year, for this model year, or full for ever ? :D

KarlMarx
January 31st, 2008, 18:59
Presumably the guy meant all the slots that there currently are in the UK have been taken - I guess for this year.

I have also found out that the spec list with prices will be released from 12th Feb in the UK.

Also, the standard list price includes the following:
20'' wheels,
DRC with 3 level control,
Flat bottomed steering wheel,
Adaptive light,
Automatic tailgate,
BOSE,
DAB radio,
DVD nav,
Bluetooth phone,
Nappa leather seats

All of which goes someway to making the list price a little easier to live with.

Leadfoot
January 31st, 2008, 23:19
If you purely look at it from a price point of view then theRS6 does look expensive next to the M5, the only extras that the Audi has over it are 20" alloys, Bose+ipod and bluetooth but the M5 counters this with head-up display among other things. It's swings and roundabouts.

Though being able to say that you have the most powerful engine must go some way to justifing the price on it's own. :D

The Audi Forum (at Neckarsulm) was a very good day and definitely worth it. They've got all the standard and all the RS models on show as well as a concept car here or there. You can look at the Exclusive paints/leather/trim etc and they''ve got some RS models done up with different interiors which si very useful. Also the guys there really know their stuff about what you can and can't do, what will and won't come with certain models.

There is a very good restaurant as well which helps.

You can go on a factory tour which at the moment consists of the A6 production (apparently from start to finish it takes only about 25 hours to build one which impressed me). It's very, very interesting (and can be in English). There was an RS6 driving around the factory as well which is the first I've seen in the flesh. After the bulk of the RS6 is made up on the A6 production line, it then goes to the Quattro department who inject it with steroids and do their stuff.

You can collect from Neckarsulm and there is a large "handing over" area where they go over your new car in what looked like minute detail as they show you how to make everything work. (I think Audi UK is still trying to sort out collection of UK RS6's from there)

After the visit (for the weekend) we went down to Heidelberg and then the Black Forest which has got some great roads and views - really worth it. Plus of course you've got the good old stretches of speed-limit-free autobahn.

I think the most useful parts of the day were looking at the different Exclusive interiors - it definitely helped with choosing what I'll go for. Probably the most interesting aspect of it was the A6 production visit.

A friend of mine just got his RS6 Avant Plus, 90/500, replacing his "old" RS6 Sedan MTM-R.

Question to C6 owners: Does the V10 really vibrate/shake at idle compared to a V8? The RS4 is so smooth while idling. I wonder if the slight shake is caused by the fact that there are two 5cyls.

So... after reading up.. the newest RS6 never made it to U.S. Shores? We got the S6 v10, but not the RS6? Any reasons for that Audi ever gave?
