Man it looks good in flat black! Maybe thats an option for Audi Exclusive LOL

Yeh was about to say the same thing. The option could be called "Chalkboard black..."

And its really great to see life in this department again but i wouldnt expect this is a V10. As i'm sure many on these boards will always hint at.
Interesting it has a new exhaust which distinguishes this from a normal R8 on the spy car side of things.

And good idea with the fire estinguisher after last time :lovl:

By the way. Anyone notice that behind the windows theres a large overhang. Like the windows sit down into the car. I wonder if vents will be opened up behind the windows ?

I thought so too but in the 2nd to last shot, the aperture seems blocked. It doesnt look like an "intake" but who knows

my money is on 10.

10 cylinders

10 % higher top speed

10 months till we see it

10 % more for the manual than for the auto version of the V8

10x more fun. maybe.

i'm still not sure about the whole RS4/5 engine. probably will be a turbo unit. but not so the S4/5 engine- which is due to be replaced.

either way, i don't see a turbo engine in the R8, in any version of it. design doesn't allow for the required cooling imo. tough enough to cool a NA 10 cyl version, let alone a V8 with two turbos (which it doesn't need imo).

i am not sure, but audi is always trying new things, just to see if they are workable. perhaps they threw in the upcoming RS5 engine in one of them for shits and giggles but didn't work out....

top dog will be the NA V10. hope audi has plans for the gallardo b/c with this car no one in his right mind would bother with it. :hihi:

I believe it was in the Car review of the S5 that the writer heard/saw what he thought was a mule for the RS5 which sounded like a Gallardo. All black and with test gear, IIRC. Look for the S5 review at www.carmagazine.co.uk (http://www.carmagazine.co.uk)

It could have been EVO...

LOL. I think the car makes up for the decrease in penis length/girth lol. :jlol:

In any case, what are everyone's thoughts on the 12 led headlamp configuration compared to the full Led lighting system. Which one do you prefer? I am thinking that the full led lighting system would be standard on the more powerful R8.

crespo

Wow, didnt even realize that. Good lookin! The front looks a little bit less agressive with only 2 'slates' but the back looks nicer with less. :asian:

I agree. Rear looks better but not sure about the front. But I'm sure its because of the camo over the silver paintjob. Let's see it uncovered first eh ? ;)

Besides the noticable differences in the pictures. Do you think there will be any other exterior changes to differentiate the current R8 from the 'super' r8?

Maybe these pictures only show some of the changes and do not display the finalized car.

However, to answer your question, I think:

- maybe the wheels will also be changed.
- I think the mirrors could also be RS style with an aluminium finish.
- seats might make it to production.
- perhaps some exclusive paints only for the new "R10"

I notice that most of the above changes are quite subtle and dont change the overall design too much. I do think it will make a difference though...;)

Funny you mention it. The ONLY thing I'm not sure about on the R8 is the quads. They look slightly odd for some reason. I think it's because of the oval surround. I really like the new exhausts on the R10 ! :hahahehe:

There is some design clues as to what this new R8 might be called, firstly the number of slats at the nose two, the same as on the RS6 and secondly the number of exhaust pipes, again two the same as RS models. I reckon based on this flimsy bit of points that the new R8 will be called the R8/RS.

I wouldn't like to bet against it happening.;)

Wondered how long it'd take till Leadie showed up in this thread. Its odd, i havent seen these images reported anywhere else.
I still would really like to see a diesel engine in the R8. Then that would be a real R10 !
I might consider buying a diesel R8 actually. As for some reason that'd be alot more practical in my mind :vhmmm:
And so reminisant of Audis LeMans dominance.

I hear a wee rumour that the V10 will have more like 520hp. The reason for this is the fact that the Gallardo will be getting 550hp which we already know and it's much lighter.

It looks like I was not the only one to hear this little rumour. ;)

Engineers tell us that this new engine will shade BMW's 500hp M Power V10 - as found in the M5 and M6 - in terms of outright power and revs. Considering BMW's figures, that means the new 5.2-litre engine should be good for around 520bhp and rev beyond 8250rpm.

Also of interest to some who might believe that the engine is from the Gallardo. :hahahehe:

Confirming our earlier news story, the V10 engine will be completely new and not related to the V10s in either that RS6 or the Lamborghini Gallardo. Instead it is essentially a development of the high-revving V8 from the RS4 and R8.

The first part of this I knew, but the second was only a rumour which also looks to be true as well.

Indeed:

According to Evo Issue 112, page 32, the engine will be a V10 based on the high-revving RS4 V8 and will not be related to the Gallardo or S6/S8 V10s. It will shade the M5/M6 V10 in terms of power output and maximum rpm. However, due to the high demand for the V8 R8, introduction is delayed to late 2008.

audi really is overwhelmed. its cars are awesome and they are being very carefully with their development. i still think the V10 R8 will be introduced in Paris but may not go into full production until late CY 2009 with first deliveries in EU in Q1-2 2009. meaning the US will see its cars in the fall of CY 2009.

this would coincide with the intro of the updated 997 turbo and, probably, the intro of the lexus LF-A.

i too think it will have about 500 hp, but probably not much more. the gayardo engine can be coaxed to make 550 but that is about it. if the V10 R8 costs 130K USD (20K more than the V8) anything less than a 50 hp difference with the gayardo will be hard to justify the 75K premium it commands.

RXBG,

I am just wondering what do Porsche charge in the US for a 997 Carrera (325hp) compared to a Cayman S (295hp).

RXBG
November 21st, 2007, 16:38
79K for base carrera and 59K for base cayman S.

LOL

Leadfoot

79K for base carrera and 59K for base cayman S.

LOL

So there is basically $20K more for something that have only 30hp more and it still the same brand.

I think the R8v10 at $130K and a Gallardo at $200K can co-exist even if there is only 30hp difference because after all one is a Lamborghini and the other is only an Audi at the end of the day.

RXBG
November 21st, 2007, 17:51
i think the example you make of the porsche cars' price difference would support your audi/lambo analogy if they were priced 75K apart. OR if the V10 R8 would be priced only 20K below the gayardo.

as it stands... it speaks for itself.

there are those whose incomes allow them to buy new 150K cars like i do shirts, without regard to their true value. those are the ones that will pay more for the gayardo. or even buy both. but for those of us who are a bit lower in the income category would think twice.

I think you have answered your own questions. The kind of people who buy the Lambo are the sort that it's cost means little and to be honest these aren't the kind of people who if they wanted the Audi would buy both.

Think of it another way, if Audi brought out the Audi R8 at the price it did and it was this almighty machine it is, do you really think it would have sold at all?

In this price bracket new-comers have to be something special to stand the distance and sadly in this sector image is everything.
