Remember a long time ago when I informed you that there was a 3.0v6TDi Bi-turbo unit coming with more power and torque than the 335d, well the wait won't be much longer. Audi is soon to release their all new alloy v6 Bi-turbo diesel with, wait for it 300hp and 650Nm. This engine all about to regain the clown from BMW and will also be lighter in the process as BMW's unit is not aluminium.

The only thing I am unsure of at the minute is whether it is to be used in the form of a 'S' diesel model bases. Here's hoping.;)

I know to you Leadfoot i shouldnt need to ask for your source, but i am quite interested to know where you heard this, majorly because i heard the same thing through an Audi dealer mechanic but i didnt believe him.

This would be interesting in the catagory of A5 and A4. I dont imagine it'd go anywhere else as theres already a different 3.0TDI in the A6, unlike BMW who use the same engine in the 535d.

The mechanic i was talking to also mentioned that this engine would be in the S4 along side the S4 V6 TT, which Leadfoot and Hans have expect for a while...

Is the image becoming clearer ?

+44 Dave,

I think it was about a year ago when I first heard hints of a Hi-performance diesel range coming and this was not just the S model range but possibly the RS range too. Until recently alloy blocks and diesel engines haven't really mix but Audi have proved it possible to combine both and in the most demanding area possible, the race track and the ultimate racing series of endurance, the Le Mans race series. With what Audi have learned it looks like the fruits are to be realised in this all new 3.0v6 TDi.

I believe the engine will be seen in a number of models, ranging from the A4/5 and A6/8 but also the Q5 and Q7. More interesting than just the engine will be the possible gearbox choice that might be offered with it.;)

As for where I heard this news, well it wasn't in the UK and not from a Audi dealership that is for sure. Most of this recent info has come from my good friend who supplied that wonderful info on the RS6 for us.

In other words, the info is sound.:thumb:

Well in a way you might be right, but it hasn't been confirmed whether the diesel will be marketed as a S or the normal A. Either way it will be better than the 335d as not only will it be more powerful and torquer but none of this power will be wasted in the spinning of an inside wheel.:hihi:

As for the 335d compared to the petrol 335i, I know for a fact that in everyday driving the diesel is a much superior engine and driving tool. Is it sportier, that all depends on your opinion, if it's on the track then NO, but away from there I doubt the petrol will feel as quick.

You might be right, it doesn't feel as quick. But anyway 335i got so much torque that it also feels very fast in every rpm.

335d has more torque than 335i. And it shows...

If they stick this one in the Q7, it will be awfully close to the 4,2tdi

That would make the V12 TDI the "Diesel God", then.

I've often wondered when they do them tests on Top Gear, like Veyron vs Plane, whether they'd be best using something like this new A4 3.0TDi or a BMW 335d. Sure a Veyron is faster but these cars can cruise at 100+mph and require far less fuel stops.

Hi Leadfoot, very interesting news; 300HP and same torque as new RS6. Any idea if and when this engine could be available in A4/A6? What would be your best guess regarding pricing (e.g. A4 - aligned to S4, A6 - aligned to 4.2FSI..)
Cheers -

It's to be launched in the Q5 first (I believe) and then A4/5/6 there after, so expect it (late'08~early'09).

As for the price of it, well that will depend on how Audi market it, if it's marketed as a S model then chances are it will be close to the S5/S4 price but if not then I reckon you will see a pricing policy which is close to that of the 335d.:thumb:
