View Full Version : How Fast Have You Had Your RS6?

BLITZEN
October 3rd, 2007, 21:36
Just a thread for entertainment purposes.. :hihi:

I'm curious, what's the fastest you've ever gone in your RS6? I took mine (briefly) up to 150mph last week while alone on a long, straight piece of rural interstate. That speed translates to 2.5 miles per minute so I was covering ground quickly! It was the fastest I've even been (other than in a plane).

Please everybody save your judgements on me or anyone else who replies to this post. You're not infallable either. :nono:

Measured on Active GPS (All measured on Autobahn A7)
RS2 -180mph
A8 -175mph
Q7 -145mph

Skaala,

Are you telling me that your 3.0TDi Q7 did 154mph.

Surely not.

typo, thats 145mph. Although, with a full car heading for skiing in Austria. Only thing I could wish different about the car, is that I wish it had a 7 speed gearbox, theres so little top end power when on the autobahn from 130mph an up.

I thought so, still a good speed and more than I have had out of mine. I agree that 130mph does seem to be a barrier to it, I drove the 4.2TDi and what a difference, this thing really can climb every mountain, the pull it has is more in character with a very fast hot hatch and not something weighing more than 2.5ton. If someone told me that Audi limited it's top speed to 155mph I reckon I would believe them.

145-150 in mine the last time I looked down prior to letting off...ran out of road before I hit the limiter. Open straight interstate in a boring midwest state so not being dangerous to anyone but me.

Leadfoot

I did have a S4 at 160+mph without the limiter kicking in and the car was rock solid on the road. Audi do know how to make their car behave well at high speeds, something I didn't feel with the two BMW cars I had, though to be fair neither of them did anything to indicate that I was in any danger, just a feeling that it wasn't as well tied down.

~150 before I hit an (admittedly pretty wide) curve and lost my nerve. Gonna take another 'run' this weekend. But I spend more time watching the needle on my gas tank drop than the speedo!!

152, but in my opinion, it all feels the same after 60. Audi really did a fine job in building this BEAST to run on rails!:incar:

Mine is stock RS6 plus, supposed to be limited to 280 km/h (174 mph), but on a recent German trip on A7 autobahn it did 290 km/h (180 mph), GPS speed from the RNS E Navi (engineering mode). Speedo was showing about 298 km/h when the limiter came in. Car was rock solid and easy, could have gone faster.

That same 10 km/h above the official limiter was also observed in my friends B7 RS4 Avant. It did 260 GPS speed, 270 in the speedo.

your speedo is lying, or your drove downhill for a while - 233 km/h is a wet dream, mine runs out of rpms before indicated 230 km/h ...... and it will take a loooong time to get there.

Although it is true the payload will not make too much of a difference, as I had almost 1 ton of stuff loaded and there was no noticeable difference once we got going :hihi:

If you were on the 19" RS6 wheels, from my experience the difference is about 15 km/h at that speed.

You'll probably have touched 300 real km/h

Not to sound like a dig as it is not my intent, but has BMW speedos improved as in the past on both model I had 525i and 328i their readouts were well wide of the mark.

P.S.

On both cases they had re-grade alloys which might effect their readings.

The tacho generally always has a positive view of the real speed, in any car.

Probably to protect the drivers and thus protecting the car companies from any lawsuit.

Speedos can be up to 5% over true speed but one of my Beemers was 9% out which wasn't really acceptable.

Factory fit upgrades which in the case of the 525i was 17" x 255 (can't remember the profile but it was supplied at factory), this was likewise with the 328i.

Indicated 155mph, no sign of rev limiter. Stunning how fast I got there, rock solid. Got there much faster than my '91M5 or 993.

Agree with previous post that in a straight line, the feeling is not sensational. That's why, living in a high-traffic city, I'd rather have a car that's very quick 0-60 and handles well than one with very long legs. (RS6 fills the bill on both counts though):addict:

(for the safety police - interstate only, daylight, sunny day, lights on, never passed anyone at over 30mph differential)

I've done 145mph in the RS6 and 140mph in the A8.
However i have been much faster in other peoples cars, had an S6 that is limited to 155mph going at 166mph before it maxxed. That was in Germany though so its not so bad. Doing 145mph in the UK is stupid to be honest.

Well, for those of you who've gone 160mph, 180 and 200?, I'm impressed. You guys have some serious stones! Ever tried bull riding? :wo:

I'm an admitted adrenaline junkie too and at 150, I got a small fix. So if there's any way you know to remove the limiter while keeping stock, I will go to the Bonneville Salt Flats (30 miles west of Salt Lake City) and let everyone know once and for all what these cars were made to do. :thumb:

I hope the RS6 goes States side because I would love to know the true capabilities of this new car. I very much doubt 200mph will tie it.

It a pity that in the present economical climate what with the dollar/euro rate that the RS6 will make it over there.

Sorry guys.

....with TheBrit when we collected our W12s from Audi in Germany and drove them back to the UK. This was in Germany of course, on a 3-4 mile perfect straight with nothing else in sight. I guess that was around 170 actual speed, but I'm not sure.

We met someone at Audi during our trip who said that the speed limiters were 'more generous' on the top models (you wouldn't want your W12 to be stuck behind a 'normal' 4.2 at 155mph on the autobahn now would you?).

I've just realised that my profile says I own an RS 6. I don't currently, but have since had a W12, two Range Rovers and now an A6 Le Mans. Oh, and I've got a deposit down with my local dealer for a new RS 6 next when they're launched in spring. :rs6kiss:

I can honestly say the RS 6 was the only car I look back at and feel really emotional about.

I think i would be shitting it doing 180mph in a tiny S4 !
In my A8 its easy to get up to 140mph and it feels fairly calm and reserved, as if it could go on to 180mph.
But the RS6 is more about speed and the thrill of acceleration but is still a big car so feels stable.
180mph in an S4 is rediculous and sounds highly unsafe.

I can't speak for the B5 S4 model but the newer S6 S4 felt very stable at over 160mph and I doubt on a smooth motorway surface without crosswinds I would be very comfortable doing another 20mph on top of that.

I agree, my RS6 is wickedly fast but it is still a 1.8 tonne car!! I was in an RS4 the other day and all I can say is "wow". I'm not quite sure how fast we were but we sure as hell got there plenty quick. Not that I would trade my RS6 for an RS4...

I bought my car in Houston, TX when I was living in El Paso, TX. The journey home was about 750 miles through lonely west Texas interstate. I figured if I didn't open her up then I'd probably never get a better chance again. That, combined with my curiosity, the little red guy on my left shoulder whispering in my ear, and a pesky late-model M3 riding my a$$ convinced me to dump the throttle. OMG, was I impressed! The acceleration never stopped! When I glanced down at the speedo, (I had been waiting for the nanny/governor to step in and break up the party) the needle was swinging so fast past 190, I was totally off guard. Visions of prison time flashed through my head. I immediately let off the gas and brought it back down to a normal speed (or at least one which wouldn't likely carry a jail sentence). I have no doubt that that car could peg the needle at the 200 mph mark indicated. I never saw the electronic governor, and I never did get a better chance again. What a car! Man, you folks in Germany are lucky! Oh, and the M3 totally evaporated.

I got the car used at a used car dealer (not from previous owner or audi dealer), but I don't think it's chipped? It's plenty fast, but I have no baseline to compare it to (other than my wife's A4). I had been looking into GIAC, APR, or MTM (probably MTM judging from prior posts here) while researching before I actually took the plunge. The car's been serviced since then (a seal between the engine and tranny let loose this past summer (while still under warranty). Would my shop necessarily tell me if it had been chipped? Is there an easy way to find out? I really don't want to open a can of worms with them (audi dealer), nor do I want to buy a chip it may not need. Would the ecu control box have any telltale signs?

~160

on the freeway at 3am. there is a long and subtle grade decline on the 110 southbound before/around/after the Anaheim exit.

the car races up to 140, glides to 150, and then creeps to 160.........i ran out of space and the needle didn't seem like it was gonna move much more anyway

p.s. the car has 19" OZ wheels

I have just a lowly '07 S6, but it managed 161 mph (speedo) before the limiter kicked in. Don't know how accurate it was , but seemed pretty fast. Although the car definately could have gone faster, and was riding smooth, if it wasn't for that dam limiter! Had the ML63 up to 150, but seemed kinda fast for a SUV....but the real rush is getting my '86 M6 up above 135. Downright scary.

145mph in a friend's B7 RS4 when on Teesside, northern England over the Christmas period. Felt like there was another 25-30mph in reserve. Hit 155 in my S4 but doubt it would muster anymore than 160 had I had the room to let the needle creep.

170 on I5 in my M5 when the limiter kicked in and it flickered 169/170 and so on. Did this on a few occasions that particular day, just so darn stable with rear diffuser etc. Shame as it got there really fast and I don't doubt Motorsport's delimited stock figure of 204mph.

What's all this comparing Audi S4 B6 to old BMW 328 or 525? Surely not a valid comparison! Also, one is high performance, the other just a standard models.
My M3 is delimited and went all the way. No drama whatsoever.
Haven't you seen all those youtube video clips where, M3/5/6 max out?
I'd say, BMW also know how to build well handling cars, whatever the speed. Here's one e60 M5 driven by a guy, holding steering in one hand while filming with his other. Traction control turned off and road less than perfect! It is also quite chilly outside

But I didn't find it annoying or anything.
