Chinese automaker Brilliance has launched the BC3 coupe in its home market. Shown earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show, the BC3 is powered by a 170 horsepower turbocharged 1.8L engine mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Brilliance claims the powertrain in the BC3 yields a 0-60 time of 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. The BC3 will start at $15,000 and option out at $21,400.

What makes the BC3 newsworthy is that fact that Brilliance is planning on selling the car in Europe in 2008 and may bring the car to the U.S. market after that. Brilliance passed Euro NCAP crash testing earlier this year — though with its BS6 sedan — and has yet to begin NHTSA testing.

I might only be the first to say this, but I think this is a good effort. Here's what I like:

- use of clean lines, that's the first thing i look for in any design. vague lines never work, and people will never remember the design.
- 6 series roofline works well
- front, rear, side connect well. consistancy in design. proportions are good.
- interior looks acceptable.

here's what I dont like:

- front grille is very tacky looking. looks out of place with rest of design.
- headlights arent sleek or clean enough to match the nice roofline and overall design.
- rear lights are awful. would be so much better without the long bottom part.

So overall great effort at least in design, all other issues like quality of materials etc will need to be addressed though. Personally I wouldnt have one, but as a first attempt, its acceptable.

Mines neither. But I think it's acceptable for a first attempt from a chinese car manufacturer.

Looks a bit like a Maserati, with some Audi TT lines, but it should be very cheap, so it will find buyers...

I see some Audi cues. The alloys, the steering wheel and the crease on the flank and is that a putative Hofmeister kink??????

Thats not a bad effort.

The Chinese are coming.

The rest of the worlds motor industry better be prepared.

I don't know where are they coming to. Most of their effort so far are copycat styling and Japanese engines/drivetrains.

Look where that got the Japanese.

No-one has to say they are the most interesting to drive, but that doesn't seem to matter to most people nowadays. I mean, Toyota are the biggest Car Company in the world, but not much of their product would appeal to many of us on here. Its not just because this happens to consist largely of Audi fanatics either. (present company excepted ;) ) You know what I mean.
