Well, it better... It's MUCH more expensive and has almost extra 100 horses. If the regular CLK63 could do that, then you might have a point here.

Regardless if the Merc beat the new M3 you have to agree that this new model has moved the game forward from the last in terms of ultimate grip as on this admittedly tight Hockenheim track, it's a full second quicker than the RS4 and based on this I wouldn't be surprised to see it take top honours on the ring as well.

But seeing pass these cars, look at the R8 compared to it's peers or should I say equals as it matches the F430 and betters the MacLaren Mercedes SLR. Not bad from a company that many regard incapable of producing a great driver/handling car.

It's not fair to compare Black Series AMG with M3.
Compare it with CSL and you see that even e46 CSL is faster than CLK63 AMG Black Series.

Agree with Leadfoot that M3 will be faster than RS4 at the Ring.
But, Leadie, let's wait until RS5 - it will leave M3 for dead at the Ring for sure.

Besides, the time of R8 is great indeed!
IT'S REALLY THE BEST PRICE-TO-QUALITY CHOICE IN SUPERCARS SEGMENT! I am afraid to think what R8 V10 will be than - better than Murcielago and 599 GTB?

I've heard around 8,10 from BMW spokesmen ...same weight and power without quattro ...smells like a tight race! If the M6 doesn't kill the RS4 why would the M3!

This is just possibly because the ring isn't the kind of track which has many tight corners, but I would still be surprise to see the M3 not posting a better time than 8:10, purely because it should on a whole be able to hit a higher speed on the fast parts.

But if the time is true then Artur777's opinion of the RS5 will be correct, it will post a much better time than the RS4 even if it didn't get the expected power hike because of the much improved chassis the A5 has over the ageing A4 on which the RS4 is based.

I think the M3 V8 will be very close to 8 minutes.

Edit. Eye-witness says 8:03 with cup tires, see separate thread.

Erik if this is correct then clearly the new M3 is indeed in a different class of performance to the RS4, well at least on the track that is.

Very interesting to understand the Ring time of C63 AMG.
Could you guess / tell please?
