View Full Version : Disabling valves on exhaust

So there is not much to go on but this is what I have gathered so far:

- detach hose from actuator-thingy
- clamp/screw hose shut (??? haven't seen the hoses so I'm not exactly sure how you can screw it shut, but screw it (pun intended) - will take a peek tomorrow)
- secure actuator so that no dirt gets in

What type of hose clamps should I use? What should I use to block off the actuator intake pipe-thingy?

I Have not done this .. but the clamp can't have any plastic in it otherwise it will melt !

Hmm - any clue where the exhaust connector is on a 997 4S w/powerkit (different place than a regular S or 4S)? :)

nope, try rentech

The best way to do this is, to snip the small metal clamp off the vacuum pipe, then twist and pull to remove the rubber pipe.Next, plug the pipe with a snug fitting bolt, then use a small zip tie to clamp the bolt in place. Also, plug the vacuum unit itself, to stop any dirt entering.Keep the clamped vacuum pipes out of the way, and job done.It could not be easier.Regards, SIMON.:rs4kiss:

I'm just not sure what to use to plug the vacuum unit. :|

Perhaps a little nail?

Is the "S" button not working?

It works but that doesn't mean your exhaust is fully open all the time.

Non Sport mode:
exhaust flaps stay shut until 5,000k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear.
exhaust flaps stay shut until 4,500k rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

Sport mode:
exhaust flaps open at idling 760rpm
exhaust flaps shut from 1,000k rpm until 3,700k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
exhaust flaps open ALL the time from 0-8250rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

Audihead, the valves do not stay open ALL the time, even when the 's' button is pressed. That is why the JD Engineering remap is so good... see that post by Turbo

Does anyone know if there's a similar flap in the A4 cab 3,2q? I've noticed a distinct altering of the sound beyond 4 000 rpm?

Thats correct.

The JD Engineering Remap opens the exhaust flaps all the time in sport mode in all the gears and the throttle opens 100% all the time too, coupled together the car sounds much much better than the original set up.

I have to say after driving it around for the last week i can say it was money well spent.
The sound and feel of the car now is worth the price of the remap alone. On top of that the lowered cold rev limit, raised speed limiter, raised rev limiter, and the additional power makes it a good all round package.

on the cold rev limit, does it still say 7,000 or does it say the new number ?

t_urbo:

When the car is cold (stock RS4) and the 7000rpm message is displayed, can you actually rev above 7K or is the engine limited to the displayed amount?

I haven't even gotten close to 5K when I see that message, just don't care for ruining my engine.

If its possible to setup just a rev limiter (assuming it actually limits the revs physically) how much would it cost do you think from JD?

when cold a STD car will STOP at 7k, it is limited

Yes it still says 7000 rpm but it does actually stop at 4300 rpm

Wow - good to know. Still I think 7K rpm is a bit much on a cold engine. I've never gone above 5K. A good reference IMO are the lights on ///M rev counters which I believe show a max of 4.5 or 5K when cold.

Andy is right it does stop at the 7000 rpm shown on the dash.

Im sure it would be possible to just set the rev limit as per your requirements but you will have to email Jeroen for a price.
I think if your wanting to alter the rev limits and play with the exhaust flaps then your better off getting a full remap and have peace of mind in knowing that its been done properly and will run without any issues.

Your right 7k is way too high.

I've done it and here are some photos that may help. Only took a few minutes to do and all I used was 2 small screws for each exhaust side (whatever that will fit snuggly into the open end of the pipes) and a screw driver. Now, flaps are opened at all times without pressing S button, but of course I will still press it for better throttle repsonse.

How much does the Re-map cost?

Just had mine done. Definetly an improvement at low revs. Both sound and the car pulls a little better in second.
