Notice that there is no mention of a S4. Does this mean that the S4 won't be there a launch?

Or will it be the surprise model at the launch?

iam pissed of the engines. audi why are you doing this, they are using engines in a brand new car from the A3 and A6. that sucks !!! why cant audi upgrade these engines like bmw do??? i hate it. the old 2.0 tdi with just 143ps not comparable with bmw. the 1.8 tfsi 160ps not comparable with bmw. oh my god. and whats with the 2.0T?? audi is taking it to light.

I heard that the S4 will be at Tokyo next year and it wont be launched with the A4. Maybe my source was lying because he said he cant give any more info out. Maybe Audi are trying to keep it as a suprise. I hope so.

@TVRfan:

What are you talking about...

BMW 318i has only 130PS
BMW 320i has only 150PS

the Audi A4 1,8 TFSI got 160PS

BMW 318d with 2.0l only got 122PS
Audi A4 2.0TDI with 2,0l got 143PS

BMW 320d with 2.0l got 163PS
no competitor yet, but the Audi A4 2.0TDI with 170PS will come for sure

I personally think Audi did a good job

I think he's meaning the more powerful engines, like the 323d, the 335i and the 335d, all these engines Audi at present don't have an answer for.

I know there is lots of talk about this engines coming but presently it all talk, myself included in the debate as to when there release will happen. The only engine we know for sure to be coming is the 2.0TDi with 204ps, the other two have been hinted to myself the petrol and diesel both being offered in S model form.

Don't forget about the 170hp version of 2.0 TDI which is not here now, but will be obviously offered with B8 if they offered it to B7 as well. That's the engine against 320D. Although 1.8T with 160hp doesn't sounds so good, but you shouldn't forget the fact that A3 with this engine was faster in every sort of acceleration than 170hp BMW 120I.
New A4 is obviously far the best car in it's category with those technical equipments like ACC, side assist, lane assist, drive select, ventilated seats, etc. but it's exterior design still reminds me of Passat:vgrumpy:

OOOO MYYYYY, this car is just fantastic.. and IMHO they got rid of all the annoying thigs of the A4... They have MMI instead of RNS-E, nicer interior, LED package, new quattro (is that the torque vvectoring system expected in the new RS6?), side assist, lane assist and one of my favourite the active cruise control....

And the look! I really really like it!!!!

I must have a B8 RS4... whatever the look or the power!

i love it. side profile is a big improvement over the stale B7's. mebbe the S4 will be a frankfurter suprise. why not? i expect it'll only carry over the current S5 engine. don't know what the big deal is.

My guys says if it isn't to be shown with the A4 then chances are it will be running a different engine than the S5. Lets face it, why would they delay the S4 if it was to get the same engine as the S5, logical thinking would say they wouldn't.

So if it's a no show at Frankfurt, expect something new in the not to distance future.

I think that's a very good guess to make

I still don't like it. It's not doing it for me in the design department but in the engineering department it sounds great... Those "R8" esque led's look quite tacky and makes the front end busy. They should have just kept the A5 headlight assembly, frame and front end (or gave it a better design overall).

Just my 2 cents.

I think this new A4 is sensational.

It appears to correct every deficiency of the the B7/ B6 versions. The new dashboard which is shared with the A5, is a big step forward. Audi appears to have found the best way of integrating SatNav into the driver display.

I am certainly looking forward to the S4 version and suspect that this is no more than a year away. I hope it will be revealed when the Avant is launched. What we're really waiting for - and have been waiting for more than 2 years for now - is longitudinal DSG. This will give the A4 a real edge over BMW and Merc.

Nice one, Audi.

Hi Leadfoot,

I'm well and recovering after 6 months of disastrous Lexus ownership.

Bought an IS250 SEL. Dealer service and build quality all stunning, but the car is an absolute dog to drive, heavy, pondorous and difficult to drive fast. i found it very tiring on long journeys.

Worst of all, my daughter managed to start the car when i was standing outside the car with the keyless system in my pocket. Wife went nuts. Car had to go.

Looking at C63 and new S4, but not IS-F or M3.

Tailpipe, welcome back !

Sorry to hear that Lexus ''excursion'' didn't end up quite well...

...I hope you will be back on the ''dark side'' :D B8 S4 sounds like a proper acquisition.

Well the standard Lexus IS is a great car but not for someone with the remote interest in anything mechanical and somehow that description doesn't sound like you.:hihi:

I think the big Merc will surprise a lot of people with it's dynamics and ponderous performance, but it's still a Merc and does your heart really lie with this over something with an Audi badge on it's nose. I hope we hear news of the S4 because I reckon it will suit your needs no end.

P.S.

When picking from the options list, don't tick the one marked 'Keyless Entry'.;)
