"Audi RS6 Avant First Spy Photos

Here are our latest shots of the Audi RS6 Avant, destined to be one of the world’s baddest grocery-getters. The RS6 Avant adopts the visual cues seen on the RS6 sedan prototypes spotted earlier, which means a cleaner and meaner front fascia with revised intakes to feed air to the engine and brakes, and the removal of the [/IMG]S6’s LED light strips. The rear bumper has been reworked significantly. Large single exhaust pipes replace the S6’s dual-tip design, and an aggressive rear diffuser dominates the rear bumper.

Visual upgrades aside, the real story is in the RS6’s performance potential. Sources predict the addition of a turbocharger to the S6’s 5.2-liter V10 engine, which should generate something between 550 and 600 horsepower. Sources had been predicting a Frankfurt Motor Show debut this Fall, for the sedan. So if that holds true, it would seem sensible that this Avant would take its bow at the same time."

Does anybody notice the strips of black plastic tape along the bottom of the headlights ? My bet these strips are hiding a row of LED's!!! The RS6 saloon is brutal, but this is the real mean machine.
By the way nice paint job !

I where you got that idea. ;)

Guys, it will look great regardless of what our predictions are. The real question is .......... will it look as good as the present RS4.

Now that's the REAL question.:vhmmm:

Just a guess... But i'd love it to be true. After all the S6 had LED's, so does the R8, A5/S5 and upcoming Q7 V12, all of these cars are flagship and there isnt much more flagship for Audi than the RS6.

I love driving the C6 S6 with the LED's because people pull to the inside lane when they see you coming thinking your the police. And what would compliment this better than the RS6's huge tail pipes in their face as you gun it away ?

Anyway i do agree though, the RS6 will be great either way and these pictures compliment that. Not long to wait now though ! About a month today :rs6kiss:

To the best of my knowledge the wheel arches are very similar to that of the RS4. I might not look as beefy because of the extra size of the car, but it will look way better than either the M5 or E63amg.

It will not only be top dog in the performance stake but it will be the one to have when cruising.:alig:

Oh without a doubt it will be at least £70K and judging by what the performance it will be able to achieve ;), it's price will be a lot closer to the E63 than the M5 if not higher but I doubt it.

I dont think i'll be buying one straight off. For a while i thought i might but the prices flying around are very high, and i dont want to be stung by the depreciation the original RS6 had, which i took advantage of :jlol:
But with the RS4 being a major player i think the new RS6 will have some major respect put its way.

Now how many A4 S-Line 2.0TDi Quattro cars have you not seen with big bore exhausts and fake chrome mirrors? I reckon going the other way and none would be the wiser.

But man, it would be a laugh to see the face on an M5 driver :stick: to be beat by what he thought was a bloody quick A6 S-Line 2.0TDi Quattro. :lovl: He would be on to his solicitor :deal: getting a paper drafted up to his local Supermarket petrol station suing them for destroying his engine with bad fuel. :mech:

What you say about A4 S-Line's is true! I almost dont understand the point in the S-Line package and quite often prefer the look of the standard car. If your going to do it, do it properly and buy an S4 not and A4 S-Line :vgrumpy:

Anyway the look on the face of a BMW would be great, especially seeing as BMW drivers always seem to think their one better than everyone else on the road (typically.)

""Hear some new info about the new RS6, it is to receive LED lights and indicators in the wing mirrors, but the most interesting thing is about the chassis. Everyone has been wondering how the RS6 is going to improve the, as some would say "dull handling" of the S6, well the answer is in the form of a unique chassis design solely for the RS6 which according to sources will be as much as leap forward in chassis design for Audi as the old S1 was."""

that was on the news not long ago, but when i look now on the spyshots, i dont see a chassis wich is similar with the S1. because the S1 has really wide fenders. and the fenders on THIS RS6 are looking normal to me. what do you tink?

I don't think Leadfoot (who wrote that info) meant that the RS6 chassi was going to be the same as the S1 was. That would have been strange. What he meant was that the chassi of the new RS6 is as revolutionary today as the S1 chassi was for audi 25 years ago.

Anyway, i can't wait for Frankfurt!

will it be lighter than the current quattro version??? or would it have lesser power loss???

Leadfoot
August 18th, 2007, 16:37
Will it be lighter? From what I understand it's an addition to the system so chances are unless Audi make the current system lighter when introducing the technology then the answer will be no.

Will it have less power loss? Again this is an unknown.

But one for sure, the technology will make a huge difference to how grip is distributed to the wheels, resulting in greater cornering speed and more driver control and enjoyment and to the best of my knowledge it can be adapted to all of Audi Quattro systems. The surprise is that a lot believe it will be introduced first with the Q5, which isn't what first springs to mind as a driver's car.

ummm, torque vectoring is an addition to quattro - this is a new generation. torque vectoring is a new rear diff with a more sophisitcated software algorithm. it will be heavier than the old diff i've no doubt, but not by much. the ability to control torque distribution across the rear axle will be a significant advantage (e.g. mistibushi evo) than the current technology (less understeer primarily). the extra weight in the rear won't harm the car either.

lets just hope this technology debuts in the rs6. audi has committed to it after all.

Leadfoot
August 18th, 2007, 22:03
Sorry for not making myself clear, the torque vectoring is an addition being incorporated in to the diff to distribute power to the wheel which needs it the most, it will be heavier but my understanding is the weight won't be that great, say an extra 15kgs, so the extra weight to the rear won't be significant to really affect the weight balance that much. But the difference to the way the car behaves with the throttle will be a welcome addition. :thumb:

tvrfan

skiwi
August 19th, 2007, 10:07
auctually what most people want is more power in connection with the road. as a tvr fan you should know that ;-)

power to the ground is, of course, where quattro is so convincing, and the new torque vectoring unit should be even more so.

interestingly there was an audi with a torsen in the rear diff and a multi-plate clutch in the centre - probably the most sophisticated quattro (until torque vectoring). anyone hazard a guess what was the car, and how many were made?

Go on, knock me down, but I reckon it was the S1 or some other racing version of the quattro system. As for numbers I have no idea.

But while on the subject of the S1, on one of it's first outings, restrictly as a pace car and driven by Hannu Mikkola the S1 completed all the stages in a combined time which was 9 minutes ahead of the overall winner, amazing.

skiwi

i should have said - not a rally car but a normal production audi....

now i'm going for the amorak title - but event you mention was with the a2 - the 1st quattro rally car (the lwb one). the s1 came along a couple of years later.

interesting that, with the debut of the a1 - the coveted "s1" moniker might get some reuse :-(

Leadfoot
August 19th, 2007, 10:46
skiwi,

You are an anorak but correct it was the LWB car. I most when talking about the early Audi rally car refer to them as the S1. I did get offered the chance to drive one a year or two back but decided against this as the owner said it's a total pig and the turbo lag is bloody awful, you basically put the throttle to the floor just before the corner and the power will only be arriving as you exit. Why spoil your opinions on something you class as an icon.

Well which was it, it had to be one of the early ones.

skiwi
August 19th, 2007, 11:07
some early models of the audi v8 - the pre-cursor of the a8 (the v8 is called the d1). the early automatics had a planetary gearset and multiplate clutch (similar to the porsche 959 of the same era) coupled to a torsen rear diff.

it took the good folks from torsen another 15 years to engineer a planetary gearset to a torsen to give us the current quattro generation....

It looks like a dealers plate from California.
Maybe testing in the desert heat in Palm Springs or Death Valley or Borrego Springs?

To see an avant audi is not common, at least for my location.

My question is what the heck is that center cut-out on the rear bumper?! Please don't say a tow hitch!?!?!?

This car doesnt have the rear defuser that the other RS6 prototypes have carried, which is interesting and also appears to be 100% un covered. Are we sure this isnt an S6 with large tail pipes ? It does have the grill we expected to see on the RS though. Very interesting, especially seeing as the avant isnt sold in the US.
