when will we get some real info on the new rs6 ? any chance they are not even bringing one to the US ? one dealer told me they gave back any early deposits they had because they were told it's not coming

I am sure that it is coming to the US. Audi needs it for marketing reasons to establish its leadership over its rivals' offerings. I do not see how they could not bring it here to create more brand prestige for themselves. It will have a V10 5.2 Turbo @ 580 bhp. So, I have heard.

No no no no... It will be a 5.0TT @ 571 bhp.

Audiphile is correct...the powerplant will be a 5.2L V10 TT producing upwards of 610 hp, but more likely generate 580 hp.

Get your facts straight before you start posting. It will be 5.0TT with 571bhp.

errr, no one knows the "facts" as the car hasn't been announced. we have a range of "informed guesses".

and don't be rude - that is not the way this list operates....

What list? This is a forum. Also, some people may have 'informed guesses' but I am not one of them, I only post what I know to be true and not rumours. I learned the specifications some time ago but posted them here only when they were verified. The PKW-typklassen have already been registered by Audi so I VERY much doubt that the specifications will change before launch. They have never changed before.

Correcting someone posting misinformation can never be considered rude.

@RS6Driver...

In the PKW-Typklassen there also is a A6 4B 3.7Quattro...but i don't know anything about this car...

Don't get me wrong...i'm also sure that this specifications will come...but i want to tell that not everything that stands in the Typklassen is right!

It will have 580 PS this is sure. The engine will probably be a modified 5.2, because they have 5.2 on the S6 ... so I doesn't make sense to put a smaller engine on the RS6. Somebody was saying that there will be a PLUS version with more than 620 PS ... What we can do is to wait until someone gets the official specifications.

P.S. I hope they will make an RS5 or RS4 B8 with more then 600 PS :thumb:

BTW ... i think we will not see Twin Turbo on Audi until the S4 B8 or the RS4 B8 ... my opinion:vhmmm:

@guessWHO...

It will be a 5.0 V10 ... someone tried a few weeks ago to explain me why this is so...it will be the 5.2 V10 but when you put turbo's on it, the ccm is getting smaller...so that's the reason he told me why it will be a V10 5.0...i don't know if that's right or not...

To your other post i have to say...that some people are well informed and have good connections to AUDI and all said (some of them months ago *g*) that it will be a V10 TT ... and i'm sure it'll be...
The other thing is that, it's very hard to get ~150HP (comparing with actual S6 engine) more out of an engine without putting at least one turbo on it...

I don't have connections ... so I can't give you an exact information ... I'm only trying to guess. One thing I'm sure ... there can not be a TT on the RS6 ... for sure it will be a V10 let's say around 5.0 ...
You are right by saying that it's hard to get ~ 150 HP more than the S6, so as an answer to this problem they'll maybe put TFSI technology.
We will see ...
Until then it's just an opinion

the reason for the 5.0 as opposed to the 5.2 was to sleeve down the bores to allow for the compression ratios to be run reliably...

@guessWHO...

Yes, it will be a TFSI ;) but with two turbos on it...why do you think that it can not be a TT?

@skiwi...

Thanx for that...

Here is my simple minded analysis on the possible power and limitations - Audi can make the engine have whatever they feel like up to about 700hp. Using some crude rules of thumb, getting 90hp/L with normal aspiration is no mean trick these days, especially with a small bore engine like a 5.0 V10. Adding turbo charging, as a rule, is good for another 50%. All of this with very high engine reliability, even for a street car for the public. So, 5.0Lx90hpx1.5=675bhp. Add 5 valves instead of 4, direct injection, etc., and you're easily over 700bhp.

The power limitations are, in order, IMHO: Liability issues, warranty cost issues, ability to increase power in future variants (RS6+, etc), ability to incrementally outpower/outperform future M5, E60/75/80 models that enevitably will outdo the RS6, transmission capacity, and so on. Technological ability is very low on the limitation scale. The single vs. twin turbo issue is simply one of power delivery characteristics and what they think the buying public will want.

Just my 2 pence worth. Long live the HP wars:addict: - screw the greenie weenies.:D

I think that it can not be a TT because I've heard that they will bring TT on the new S4 B8. So they will wait until then to put a TT. Maybe the RS6 + will have a TT engine. I think it's like the 1.8 on the A5 ... they'll bring it on the market after they bring the A4 B8 with 1.8. It's just "marketing" :hahahehe:

it has to be a tein turbo. it would be very difficult to fit a single turbo in the space available...

I would think it will most likely be bi-turbo because the last gen RS6 was bi-turbo. I just feel like they would keep to tradition with the Beast. But, if it's better with one turbo somehow, then they will use one turbo.

Whatever it is is going to be an MONSTER!!!!

I wonder how long will be after release before we can get our hands on the + version... I'm really looking forward to that mean mean best!

To go back one topic the reason it has a smaller bore is for engine colling. It is simple phisics... Given all the parameters are the same if you increase the pressure the temperarture raises... Changing all the engine specification will be a lot more expensive than just making smaller cilinders bores!

On the HP issue... one of the test dirvers of the RS6 on the green hell confirmed (in march during the first R8 customer event on the nurburgring) that the car is heavy and you can feel the mass when going around the bends and braking but it feels as agile as the RS4. He also confirmed that is much more brutal and really really fast on the ring.... According to him..... 580 bhb!
