The new RS6 will have 579 ps or 571 hp.

Hans,

Welcome aboard, this is a fact that we all have known for a good month now. ;)

If you drawing all those TT/S cars you would know this by now. :hihi:

Sorry mate, I couldn't resist the dig.

I'm not interested in the RS6, ( it's just a fast sales representative's car) but got the info a while back but forget to post it.

Very nice if and when it happens and contrary to Hans, I am very interested in the new RS6. But:

1) Sport Auto measured the new S6 sedan - which already contains plenty of aluminium - at 2003kg with a full tank but no driver or luggage as compared with quoted unladen of 1910kg. Other mags' test numbers extremely similar. The new RS6 sedan with its bi-turbo and beefed up accessories will weigh at least as much, but in reality close to 2100kg with a likely quoted unladen of 2000kg or so.

2) Sport Auto tested the previous generation MTM-Audi RS6 Clubsport (Avant). Engine delivers 580PS and 820Nm and is mated to a more efficient 6-speed manual. The measured weight was 1719kg with a full tank but no driver or luggage. The huge 300kg diet is achieved by bare stripping including racing buckets and no rear seats. Tested acceleration numbers 0-100 3.9s and 0-200 12.3s.

3) RS6 Plus MkI with 480PS and 560Nm was quoted at 0-200 in 17.3s and Sport Auto and AMS got 0-200 in 17.8s and 18.0s, respectively. Measured empty weight with full tank 1984-1991kg.

Based on these facts, I reckon that Audi will probably quote for the new RS6 sedan a 0-200 time in something like 14s and the actual tests will show something like 15s. With crude linear interpolation of power-to-weight either from 2) to 1) or 3) to 1) you end up in both cases with around 15s. Very nice and good enough for me, but hardly a revolution. What do you think?

I think Audi need to put the new RS6 engine in the R8. :jlol:

QuattroFun,

I have some mathematic countings and my conclusion that RS6 will do 0-200 at 14-15 sec. also.
I don't know about the weight because they promised it to be not much heavier than S6, and it will weight not less than 2000 kg.

We are all make an assumption that the RS6 will weigh as much as the S6 if not a little more and this is based on the fact that more power equals more weight. Fair point apart from a two words which just happen to blow what you all have said out of the water. And the two words are BUGATTI VEYRON.

Now please keep up, the Bugatti Veyron has a power to weight of 521 give or that a few hp, while the MacLaren F1 has about 550. By you calculations the F1 should be able to slowly walk away from the Veyron but of course it doesn't, why? In an answer, TORQUE. Torque is what makes cars really accelerate, if the F1 had close to 750ft/lbs of torque well then the Veyron would indeed be history.

You need to re-check basing you own calculation of the RS6's weight and factor in an estimated torque figure of say 520~540ft/lbs and base these findings on what the M5 has and then see if you think it will still need 15 seconds to accelerate to 200km/h. I myself reckon it will be closer to the 13 seconds than the 15 seconds.

But then again I am a little bias. ;)

Now, Leadie, this is really not meant to be a dialogue/debate between us - but as a member in the same camp I want to point out: the Veyron-F1 comparison as the basis for 13s is not very accurate for this analysis. Still, 13s or 12s or 16s is as good a guess as mine and 14 vs. 13s is not even very relevant - but backing them up will be harder with the info we all have as well as lack.

First, the F1 actually has a nearly an equally good torque-to-weight ratio (if much more narrow spread) as the Veyron so other things (which are not at all equal between the cars - one rwd, other fwd and very different transmissions/gearing for starters - and Bugatti is actually dynoed at much more than the quoted power) are clearly at play here. Second, if only torque-to-weight would matter, then diesels would be topping the acceleration charts - but the are not bar the R10, which also happens to have a lot of bhp. Strictly speaking, I believe the exact mathematics go something like that a 10% gain in the power-to-weight equals something like 7% predicted gain in acceleration. Torque is relevant for the period when revs drop at gear change much below the peak powerband - so it has some relevance on average but with many tightly stacked gears revs never drop much. Finally, and to conform to your analysis, I cant see the new RS6 having a lot more torque than the Clubsport's 820Nm or with much wider spread with a nearly 7K redline and it will certainly weigh a lot, lot more...and the MTM does it in 12.3s. Much less transmission loss or underquoted numbers?

0-60 mph Calculator for cars
This calculator has been designed around real-world numbers and statistical averages based on sample data. It is not based around physics formulas so it's important that you enter the data it asks of you and NOT whp numbers, or gross vehicle weight. It takes into consideration the performance advantages of RWD and AWD over FWD, and the advantage of a Manual transmission over an Automatic. Of course there are other variables that could be considered, but the 0-60 times that are calculated should be reasonably accurate for most cars.

Horsepower: 580ps
Curb Weight: 2100kg
Drive Type: AWD
Transmission: Automatic Transmission

Power / Weight Ratio: 0.12335
0-60 mph: 4.13 seconds

Re: Veyron vs. Mclaren F1 -

At serious speeds, the power to weight and torque to weight ratios take a backseat to absolute horsepower. When you want to go fast above 200 mph, 1000 odd bhp trumps 600 odd bhp every time...

Leadfoot
June 26th, 2007, 08:19
Guys,

I understand how the whole power vs torque thing works. SpinEcho, you are correct that topspeed requires greater amounts of HP and this is why the Veyron keep accelerating when the F1 hits a wall over 200mph, but up to the 180mph mark torque is playing a very big role in the car's acceleration. This is why the RS6 will out accelerate the M5 up to 200km/h and with it's extra power (71hp + 120~130ft/lbs) why it will maintain this gap right to the limit.

The faster you go the less weight becomes a burdon, this is why the like of a Lotus Exige can post 4s 0-60mph and 10s 0-100mph but are miles behind other heavier cars that post similar times by the 140~150mph mark.

BMW M6 is not a torquey car, but it accelrates greatly.
Only because of effective gearing and RWD with good tires on dry surface?

On the other hand, it's reasonable to compare TT car with another TT car like Bentley GTC and 65 AMG series taking intoconsideration additional losses of AWD comparing to RWD cars.

Bentley GTC:

New RS6 2000 kg? WTF? Is very weight...
If audi wants to concur against the M cars the RS6 It has that to have in the maximum 1850 Kg... and more 500 hp! And I belive if these values will be of the
RS6 then 0-100 in 3.9 and 0-200 in less 13 seconds the top speed 200 mph!
