View Full Version : Lamborghini Gallardo gets V8?!

"Audi goes up, Lamborghini goes down. Just as the R8, which wasn't really supposed to compete with the Gallardo, is getting revved up for a V10 transplant, the less expensive Gallardo could be going downmarket, swapping adding a V8 model to accompany the current V10. Admittedly its speculative, but sources and pics from the 'Ring indicate to World Car Fans the possibility of a V8 Gallardo with a revised fascia, altered exhaust treatment, and a less raucous exhaust roar than the V10. If true, that would mean we'll have two different versions of an Audi supercar (perhaps a third if a diesel engine is offered) and an "affordable" Lamborghini. Who saw that coming?

This involves a little speculation here, but our sources at the Nürburgring have photographed what may be a V8-powered Lamborghini Gallardo prototype. A slightly revised front fascia, and a visibly reworked exhaust out back suggest that some engine changes are being explored. This Gallardo is reportedly being benchmarked with an Audi RS4, which is powered by a high-revving 420 hp V8 4.2FSI power plant. The RS4's V8 would be a logical engine choice if Lamborghini decides to move ahead with a slightly more sedate (and affordable) Gallardo variant. Our Ring spies tell us that this revised Gallardo is noticeably quieter than the typical V10-powered version, when running all-out on the track."

I can't get my head around this one..at all! What is the need for a V8 Gallardo? What would it compete against? COULD this mule be a V8 Diesel instead?

I don't know...this confuses me A LOT!

that would be a great mistake if you ask me!!! Lambos are all about exclusivity, rarety and loudness... and please, just please, don't make a diesel lambo, i will kill myself if such a thing happens.

Of course no one is asking me... :P

It's more than a mistake and I don't think that's it's a diesel. That would be easy to spot for a motorguy. They say it might be the RS4 V8, a diesel reving 8000+? :D

This might just be a testmule for an engine to see how it performs and they used the Gallardo as the mule. But who knows..

We'll just have to wait and see or for somebody with better info to write here!

This is probably the V12 TDI test mule. Why would they stretch the wheelbase for a V8 test car?

It doesn't mean there'll be a Lambo Diesel. There probably won't be. Just that they are testing a Diesel engine in a Gallardo chassis.

Iceman just wrote this in the R8 TDI thread:

It will be a 4.2 litre V8 TDI with 375 hp and 770 Nm of torque.
0-100 Km/h will be in ± 5.0 secs, Topspeed ± 285 Km/h.

Connection..? :vhmmm:

Interesting indeed.
If a 4.2 litre V8 FSI with flatplane cranksaft ?, lambo style intake manifold and exhaust can sound like that.
Further it will be lighter as the V10 and probably have between 420-450 hp.
And it will cost most likely more then a R8 V8 but less then a R8 V10.

Interesting indeed.

Man, Audi is sure running Lambo into the ground. The interior of the Gallardo already feels like a TT, now it gets an Audi engine too. I am going to test rive a Gallardo soon, will see if the Audi connection is more then just superficial.

I like the interior of the standard Gallardo. If it were like a TT I would be happy. As far as the engine goes, if Iceman is right, it could be a good thing for the Gallardo in terms of handling/performance.

I have seen the video a few time more, but i still think it's hard to say if it's a V8 or V10.
If it's a V10 then it is the new 550 hp 5.2 litre V10 FSI engine.
and if it's a V8 then it's a ± 440 hp 4.2 litre V8 FSI engine.

Didn't the Gallardo come out before the current gen TT? I maybe wrong. So if they were the same, that would mean the TT has the Gallardo interior? Not bad!

But the interiors are totally different anyway...so what are you talking about? Feeling like the TT, do you mean feels of quality? Feel of being well designed?

It grates on me when people say that Lambo's share switchgear with Audi. WHO CARE'S?!! If you gonna share, you may as well share with the best!!!

guys. i have it on good word that there will not be a V8 lambo.

it'll go something like this.

USD 110K= V8 R8 ~ 425hp, 130K= V10 R8 ~ 500hp, 200K= updated gayardo ~ 575 hp, 300K = brand new V12 lambo flagship ~ 700 hp.

If there be a stronger Gallardo V10 it will be a new 5.2 litre V10 FSI with 550 hp.
Beside that the white Gallardo testmule is not sounding like a V8 to me.

The brand new V12 700 HP that you're talking about..
Is that going to be the murcilago LP superleggera?
Or is it a brand new model?
Cause it said that the Murcielago SL would have close to 700BHP
