I don't know if this is the reason for the series being called 'Black series' but the first model in the range was the SLK55 which had a fixed roof instead of the folding metal one and this fixed roof was made of Carbon Fibre which just happens to be black.
But like I say it's only an idea.

Anyway, it's an interesting car with more than 500hp and a potential to smoke M6!
