Please pardon my ignorance but what is the difference between the S4 4.2L engine and A8 4.2L engine?

Does anyone have a detailed comparison?

Thanks

as far as I know, there is no difference between the 4.2L engine out of the S4 and the one out of the new A8.
of course there might be some software differences in the motronic.

there is a difference between the new 4.2 and the olds 4.2.

the old ones had a belt camshaft drive in front of the engine and the new ones have a chain driven camshaft in the back of the engine who makes them about 50mm shorter.

please correct me if I am wrong!

So, the S4 V8 is essentially a A4 4.2L?

I'm trying very hard to understand the unique characteristics of the new S4 and what makes it so different from the A4?

Anyone?

Kind of an A4 4.2l with the important exception of an added S.
If you look at power and acceleration figures in the A4 product line there will be no problems figuring out what the S4 is about.
