turn ESP off, brake, rev upto 2500 rpm and let go

Ive read that it is a hard car to launch and there is a fine line between bogging and getting out of the hole quick

No fine line IMO. Jonas21 seems to know the procedure.

flip the guy next to you the BIRD before launching, that pisses them off and you get the jump on them.

Well i went to the track tonight and managed a best run or 13.074/105.50MPH and 13.097/104.41MPH. Not sure how this compares to other stock RS6's out there

Cheers.

Other than the oft-quoted Car and Driver and Road and Track tests that showed 12.6-12.8 sec. 1/4 miles, there was this article from Popular Mechanics where they tried everything, but couldn't break into the 12s:

"Close, But No Cigar

On paper, Audi's limited-edition RS 6 is a shoo-in. After all, it gets a more-than-respectable 450 hp and a healthy 415 ft.-lb. of torque from its twin-turbo 4.2-liter DOHC V8. Audi pairs this motor with its proven Quattro all-wheel-drive system. But short of hooking up a nitrous oxide bottle to the German sedan, we could not get the RS 6 into the 12-second bracket. We tried every driving style any one of us could come up with. We had everyone on the staff take a couple of cracks at hustling it down the strip. Basically, we did everything we could think of, but we couldn't get this sedan to cover 1320 ft. from a standing start in less than 13 seconds. Make no mistake, the Audi RS 6 is one quick machine. Just don't challenge a guy in a Mercedes E55 AMG to a drag race.

Test Summary: Audi RS 6
Base price: $82,700, Price as tested: $84,660
Engine: 4.2-liter/255.0 cu.-in. DOHC 40v twin-turbo V8
HP: 450 @ 5700 rpm, Torque: 415 ft.-lb. @ 1950 rpm, HP/liter ratio: 107.1, Trans: 5A
Powertrain: front engine/all-wheel drive
Final drive ratio: 3.20:1, Curb weight: 4024 lb. Weight/HP ratio: 8.9, Tires: Dunlop SP Sport 9000 RS, 255/40ZR18
Acceleration: 0-30 mph: 1.95 sec., 0-60 mph: 4.99 sec., 1/4-mile: 13.15 sec. @ 106.37 mph "
---------------------------------------------------

So, I'd say that you're right in the "normal" ballpark with your times.

ZCD2.7T - Thanks for that. I have noticed two other RS6 owners that have run high MPH at the 1/4mile strip around 109-110MPH. One of them was using 18" Wheels could this be the cause of the higher MPH? I am pretty sure I can get it into the 12's say a 12.9/12.8 it will just take some fine tunning of my launch aswell as a nice crisp night

When I first got my car new (56 miles on it), It took months to get the motor sorted out so it would pull quickly and smoothly. Afetr the break-in, it just didnt scoot like it was supposed to. It took many weeks to get it up to speed. Main issue was replacement of bad MAF sensors. I couldnt beat an M3 until this problem (which is how it came from the factory) was fixed. Now the thing pulls like the beast it is supposed to be and at 37k it is now the fastest it has ever been. perhaps you might have a few bits under the hood that need sorting. The mechanics didnt notice the car was slow. I had to tell them and when the SM tried to get it to 60 in under 5 seconds, thats when they agreed there was a problem. Sometimes, you have to educate them.

So the RS6 should run around 109-100mph over the 1/4mile?

Not 109-110 stock; that's about the trap speed for a chipped RS6 as I recall.

What were your 60' times?

Here's all the numbers of my time slip

R/T 0.215
60' 1.885
330' 5.478
660' 8.425
mph 82.78
1000' 10.950
ET 13.074
MPH 105.50

I think another guy on here "cooper" has a stock RS6 and has run 109MPH and he claims to be standard

Cheers

I think I've read every test and every post regarding 1/4 mile times and speeds for the RS 6, and the consensus seems to be that 12.7-13.1 and 105-108 mph are "normal" for a unmodified car.

42TT
May 3rd, 2007, 14:43
well i seem to be on the high side of the "norm" LOL. Wonder if there is anything I can do to get it on the low side of the "norm" before I start modifications

I would replace all fluids, use 18 in wheels and replace the DVs with SS variants and I would think you would be just fine.

42TT
May 3rd, 2007, 16:37
well sechsgang I was leaning towards the diverter valves anyway as they are making a horrible "honking" noise so they may well be holding me back.

Dont think I will be able to find 18" wheels that will clear the brakes, may I ask why 18" wheels?

Boosted-Bora

the diverters make a huge difference i would definitely replace those as they are a very cost effictive modification that even helps in daily driving.

Any reccomendations? Ive been told everything from the most exepensive aftermarket ones to replacement audi ones are the best

sechsgang

try the ones at stratmosphere

they are billet steel and probably your best bet...a bit expensive yes...but very effective...

The 18 in wheels are MAINLY for wieght at speeds under 150 mph as the less unsprung weight, the shorter the time it takes for any imput from the engine/brakes to the road and visa-versa is felt...be it speeding up or slowing down...

Also, there is less rotational mass in general...

This is one of the reasons why nearly every GT class or above racecar uses 18 in wheels. SOME even try for 17 (ala Turner's M3)

The Hyperboost valves are very good. Easy install, but I suggest having replacement vacuum hose clamps/crimps/whatever they're called ready to go.

I am using the Dahlback diverters and they made a huge difference...and they arent very much money I think 140 each or something like that.

You do have an RS6, right? What kind of brakes do you have that won't fit with 18's?

42TT

I have the standard RS6 front brakes. Which wheels will fit over them without going to the expense of 18"RS6 or RS4 wheels?

huh? don't you have an rs6??? the rs6 came standard with 18's or optional 19's...
