I have around 15.000 km with it and yes i love it she is great you will know what i am talking about anyday now :).Very important folow the rules how to ride the car first 3000 km they are really important even if it is very hard to restrain yourself! If yougo 4000 rpm go slowly not savage and say "i got only 4000 rpm"do it gradually! It is the same with virgins they don't gang bang from the first time :))))!

Hi Paul can you tell me more about running the car in from new? My audi is arriving very soon, and again today i called up the dealership to ask about what one of the sales team told me- she said that car had already been run in. Another person got on the phone and told me the same thing- that the car had already been run in. Is this something specefic to the UK or am i being given false information by audi ppl who (if wrong) dont know anything about audi's or general motoring in the first place :w:Thanks

Mr.X use search option on the forum you will have a lot of advices from veteran users of rs6 forum with more expirience than me.Also check user's manual of your car there should be a page dedicated to the subject of running in the car your car specific not general audi cars!

Thanks again for the soundly tip there! It will be very hard not to take it easy with the RS4 but I will do my best, not sure about your last comment...not all like it gentle! hehe. just joking.

Happy driving!

If you don't respect the running in period your car will be slower than other RS4 corectly run in,think about it 3000 km fast but the rest 97.000 km slower!:rs4kiss:

Not sure I buy into keeping it below 4000rpms during running in. You need to put the engine under a variety of loads during the running in period. This means low rpms, high rpms, low rpms going up hill, high rpms going up hill, all different varieties to ensure that the engine is "bedded in" correctly. Obviously you don't want to "thrash" the engine during this time (perhaps use a general limit of 7000rpms which you exceed rarely) but you do want the seals to settle in under high and low pressures, and the parts to interact under a variety of conditions. One of the key things is to avoid running the engine at constant rpm and constant load (say on a long flat road such as a freeway) for long periods. This can be avoided by changing gears around, or by saving long trips until after the first 2000km or so.

My two cents.

Brad have read owner's manual? If so u got there first 1000 km max 4000 rpm,1001 km 5000 rpm.2001 km 6000 rpm,2500 gradually 8000 rpm.after 300 km all the way 8250 i also agree with differnt loads and gear shifting just like you said!

Btw do u like my pictures:rs4addict ?:)

So, checked out the owners manual, there are specifics, but completely different to what you and others state.

Up to 1000km
- do not use full throttle
- do not exceed 6000rpm

From 1000 - 2000
- do not use full throttle
- do not exceed 7000rpm

From 2000 - 2500
- increase engine speed gradually and briefly to 8250rpm

More than 2500
- you can now drive at engine speed up to 8250rpm

I largely stuck to these more by accident than design :-). Strange that these figures differ for different people though. Different build dates? Or different model specs for different countries?

No, you are right i made a mistake with 4000 rpm it is 6000 instead!

Hi Brad,
Thx for giving us (those still are waiting for their RS4) the facts from owner manual. That sounds pretty easy to follow. It would be harder to keep the rev less than 4000rpm during the first 1000km (IMO) for such a free-revving engine like the RS4's.

Just curious though, you mentioned try not to hold same rev/speed too long...what do you define "too long"? 5 mins? And when did you do your first oil change? Did you use factory's oil or your own like Mobil 1 or Castrol?

BTW, I should pick up mine later this week. There was a delay as one of the rims was "scratched" during transport and they are waiting for replacement before dispatching it to the dealer...just my luck!

Cheers.

Hi mate, no magic number on this, but even a few minutes can make a difference. Basically, whenever you feel that you have been cruising at constant RPM's for a while, change it down, or change it up. Usually not an issue on normal roads, but if you get onto a freeway you need to think about it.

I did not change the oil yet, although I have topped it up with Mobil 1 once since I bought it. Swallowed a lot of oil though, it really burns through it during the first 5000kms or so.
