Remember these times when we finally hear the R8v8's times, it these that will determine if the R8 is as good as all of us think it is, not what the CSL or a GT3 did but car that are it's direct competition.

If the R8 betters an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Porsche 997 4S or anything in betweent these and the 997Turbo then it's slightly dearer price over the 997 4S will in my mind be justified.

Leadfoot,

R8(420hp) time on the Ring will not be faster then 8.00min-we can even bet on this.

I don't know about that but in any case it only has to beat the 8:05 posted by the 997 Carrera 4S and of that I have little doubt it will beat. Compared to the Porsche it has everything going for it, better weight balance, more power, lower Centre Of Gravity, a higher lateral G rating, heck on that last thing alone the R8 should beat the 997 by at least 3~4 seconds because it's cornering speed will be higher, factor in it's slightly better acceleration and at least another 2 seconds are there for the taking.

So as I say I wouldn't be that sure about the R8 not breaking the 8:00 barrier, especially as it's got a better suspension set-up than the Gallardo and it's already posted a 7:50 time.

This show that power isn't everything, the older 360CS is only 1 sec slower on the ring and 0.3 sec slower around Hockenheim. And with the Porsche GT3 version 996 and 997, the older one is only 0.1 sec slower on Hockenheim, does this mean that Porsche has finally reached it's limits with the 911 and it's time for a change of design.

I see where your'e going. But I really hope that there's more to do on the 911. Cause they can't take it away... that would mean suicide for me! :noshake:

And I do think that there is more performance to find in the 911 shell! :incar:

EDIT: I agree on youre statement above about the R8 breaking the magical 08:00 barrior on the ring. It is possible, and it wouldn't surprise me at all!

I don't for one minute think Porsche will ever abandon the 911 in it's range somewhere but I do believe that the time is soon coming where Porsche will have to develop a car more on the lines of the Cayman to replace the 911 as their top model and continue the fight against the Italian supercar elite.

I harbour an opinion that the R8 especially on the ring will get a lot closer to the time of the Gallardo than anyone ever thought possible. All reports talk about the composure that the R8 has on bad surfaces and uneven ground, two things found on the ring, bikers always talk about how bumpy it is. I believe as I reckon some here also do that the R8v8 will post a time below the 8 minute barrier.
