How wide are 18 X 8.5 wheels?

I think most here would have tires mounted on their rims, so it would be difficult to measure the outside width of the rim. Just curious...why do you need this dimension? Can't you just estimate 8 1/2" plus amybe another 1/4" for material thickness (1/8" for each side of the rim)??? That should be close enough.

My tire installer say's I should not worry about it, they look good and that I should SUBTRACT 1" from the outside measurement to get the inside. Others relay basicly your view which would make them 8.5". I was simply looking for someone to confirm one way or the other what a outside measurment is so that I can determine if I 7.5" or 8.5" wheels. I supect that I do indeed have the "winter wheels" but they don't "look" under sized. I would like to put the money into Bluetooth upgrade but as they say in the MG shops "Safety Fast" (Safe before Fast).

I have an unmounted wheel at home. I will gladly measure it and report back.

US spec (8.5x18) factory 9 spoke wheel is 9.5 inches outside to outside.

You have to subtract a inch from the O.D. to get the I.D. Thanks for your time and input!
