Could just be the V8 Body with a V10 engine. The only way to tell for sure would be a nice video clip :D

By the way RXBG, do you have your deposit down yet? or are you waiting for the V10?

Nice - but will the V10 in R8 crack 500bhp now that Gallardo Superlegga has 530bhp?

This is a R8 V12 TDI testmule IMHO.
The 5.2 V10 FSI don't need bigger side air intake, the V12 TDI does.
btw, i like the new side skirts very much.

Nope, Audi is facing significant problems to coole the V10 in the R8.

At the moment, the V12 TDI does not fit in the R8....

Frederic,

You are a very knowledgeable guy but can you explain why the Gallardo doesn't have a heat problem and the R8 does because I am at a lost to understand this unless the R8 is running turbos.

The V12 TDI fit without a problem in the R8 engine room.
It's the biggets engine room Audi have.
But cooling the V12 TDI is other story because it can only be cooled by radiaters and not by frontal airflow.

1000Nm is very nice for a 2.5tonne Q7 - but would be completely ridiculous for a R8

Yes, ridiciously fun! :D :incar:

Well the Veyron doesn't have any problem with over 1000Nm of torque, it is still able to leave the likes of the Enzo on a twisty road so why would the R8 has a problem. I personally think it would be a great idea to have a big powerful diesel in a supercar and who better than Audi to follow it through.

Just think of the look on Mr Ferrari 599's face as you puffed some diesel smoke in his eyes as you pulled away.:hihi:

Well, 600Nm/tonne in a R8 would really second to Veyron and third to none - no doubt fun, but unusable on the road: it would be Audi's very own Brabus monster then - severe rear bias in torque delivery and not at all built from onset like the 2.1tonne, no costs spared, Veyron to handle such forces. Even the Le Mans quattro prototype was not much lighter and had only had 750Nm...

Smoke? He wouldn't even be able so see the smoke.. you'd be loooong gone! :thumb:

Agree on that one, I would love to see Audi taking that step and putting a diesel in a high performance car. They've conquered the racetracks, now it's time for the roads! :dig:

B/c the Diesel has a smaller powerband, it will need tall gears, so the 1000Nm at the crank won't be at the wheels.

The Audiworld interview basically confirmed that the V12 TDI is too heavy for the R8. (300 or so more for the engine at least+likely a heavier gearbox and other stuff)

Toto89,

Yeah this was a special picture the RS8 followed by the RS6. If the picture had been taken on the big long straight it would have been the other way round.:hihi:

I think it's more a case of Audi being let off the reins by VW to produce to products we all know they are capable of. :jlol:

It's going to be an interesting few years a head of us, no matter where mainstream German manufacturer you prefer to drive, we will all be winners. :p

The V12 TDI is so heavy the R8's handling would be seriously compromised. I can see the point of putting in a TDI into the R8 - but I think that a new engine would be required regardless of whether or not the existing V12 fits.

Two privately made R8 testmule pics by Arne (Norway)
This first picture looks realy awesome, but i still don't like the Audi rings on the hood.
I personally think the R8 looks the best in single color outfit.

I think the extended air slope on the sides are making you think the rear arches are bigger, it not the case. Anyway it was already a wide car to start with, even wider than a 997Turbo, making it more so would mean parking etc would more difficult in turn making it less practical, something Audi wouldn't want to do.:brag:

I like the blacked out rear window, give it a bit of mystery about it.:hahahehe:

No mystery just hiding the V10 Bi-turbo. :)

I must say that I have always harboured the opinion that Audi would put a Bi-turbo V10 in the R8 but the thought that it would out perform the Gallardo always made me push these thoughts to the back of my mind. Surely even a detuned version of the RS6 engine would put out well in excess of 520hp and though this is no more than the current Lambo, when combined with the extra torque from the turbos there is no way it wouldn't out perform the Lambo in every exercise.

The only reason Audi would be allowed to beat Lamborghini at it's own game is VAG were deciding to sell off Lambo, think about it why have a more expensive car which is slower in every way compared to it's little cousin. It's the same reason why Porsche don't allow the Cayenne all of the 997 toys like the bigger engine and a LSD.

Has anyone in the UK got any firm info on delivery of the V10? I've only heard 2009 so far. I don't want to keep my RS6 for that long, so I'm going to need some other options!

As Audi cars are getting ring tested they are ± 6 months out of introduction.
Based on this the RS6 and R8 V10 can/will debut on the IAA Frankfurt September 2007.
But in case of the R8 V10 it can take longer because of the burn out at the ring.

I don't the local dealers will be very helpful, they are just about to get the R8v8 so any talk of a car that they can't sell with in the next 6-8 months means very little to them.

We know more about up and coming models than most of them.

you know guys, audi is best selling german car in russia, and if there were V10 bi-turbo R8 with +550 hp for 150K and lambo gallardo -550 hp for 250k, and i would be a russian(i'm not) millioner i would buy lambo, just because of name....
thank god i'm not russian millioner

i just wont to say that R8 is high tech supersports car and lambo is classic supersports car, and i think you would agree that performance is nothing for rich man who knows nothing about driving except turning the stirring wheel and knowing that lambo is cool, and audi is family car for 45+ years old doctor which is "uncool"..... (this kind of people doesn't deserve good rides...)
