"None of this seems to matter in the 2007 Audi RS 4. Using just such a layout, Audi has managed to out-fun the 2007 BMW M5, one of the world's most respected driver's cars. And it's done so for tens of thousands of fewer dollars."

End of discussion! That's just what we've known all along? :D

I am at a lose as to why BMW didn't allow DSC to be turned off...why?

To say that the gearbox couldn't handle full power standing start tells me they didn't build the thing strong enough in the first place, another one of BMW hurrying something to the market before fully developed, something that just doesn't happen with Audi.

U hit the nail on the head leadfoot, the car was RUSHED in2 production. It seems 2 b the theme 4 BMW these days, they did the same w/ the Z4M Roadster & Coupe.
But as we have discussed b4,all this is meaningless 2 most buyers because it's badge is it's main draw card.

The M5 was put together by marketeers. The Audi by engineers.

The new M3 is proud to annouce the same high revving concept, so that means the same "F1" crap that doesn't belong on a road going car. When/if people catch on, Audi will be there to welcome disappointed ///M customers.

I think Audi has some of the best handling engineers in the bussiness. They manage to make a 6 y/o (?) family car with a V8 hanging over its front axle handle better than a near perfectly balanced RWD chassis. Imagine what they can do with the B8 platform.

The problem for Audi now is how to make that clear to the consumer.

The electrical safeguards don't turn off completely on the manual M5 (they do on the SMG) becuase there is "axle hop" on acceleration. Something that can be excused on a Mustang but not an M5.

Agree, especially on, "The problem for Audi now is how to make that clear to the consumer." That is going to be audi's most complicated feat. They need to advertise this to consumers in a way where it dosen't sound exaggerated, boasting, or dubious.

If Audi can do that, It would help them immensely. :dig:

What better advertising than great reviews that the RS4, TT and S3 has had, what the R8 is getting and the likelihood of what the A5/S5 will soon to get.

The world knows Audi does unrivalled quality, it's only a small step for the public to recognize that this quality includes the driving experience.
