Yes, the pictures are from Audi.de, but if you go there and look around you won't find them. If you play around with the urls you can find them. Audi put them up but didn't want anyone to see them just yet. So you can call this finding stuff out/leak/whatever. Some can say that Audi did it for extra publicity but there is an A5 micro site that Audi would have probably used to show it there first. But in the end, Audi read my post about how the micro site wasn't updated and decided to spill the beans and post them up.:dig:

These first pictures have answered one burning question, 'will there be a 3.0TDi at launch?'

I must say I was unsure at the new swish line but after these pics I am in love and with such a short over-hang this thing will handle amazingly. Roll-on the battle between the Giants 'S5 and M3'

Now we now what it looks like, on to subject no.2, what is the price going to be?

I don't know what to say... completely lost for words. That's one of the most beautiful coupes I've ever seen. Pretty nice ending of a amazing designing work at Audi for DaSilva. Just hope that the new Chief will do even better! If it's possible..?

To end up, I wan't one! With the engine placed there.. and with Quattro. This thing will handle! :D

@ Charles DLF : maybe it'll grow on you, perhaps you should have a better look at a showroom.

Wow! So a curvy waistline after all.

This is no pastiche of BMW design. You can only accuse this car of being like a BMW because of the lack of a front overhang and engine placed further towards rear axle.

It is very sleek, very restrained, very Audi. It moves Audi's design forward in an interesting direction. Very exciting. Congratulations to the Audi design team. This car will excite your customers, scare all of your German competitors, and move the category forward.

This car is going to be red hot. I feel sorry for the BMW M3.

dare i say....

not crazy about the front. i don't dislike it, mind you, but i find it more inoffensive and conservative than "audi". don't know if you know what i mean.

the back is a bit bland. it needed the nuvolari tailights. maybe it looks hotter in person and at night with the lights on.

it is a breath of fresh air to finally see it. hope the powerplants are interesting.

what the hell - i'm gone for a view hours on a workshop and when i come back the hell got loose

what a car - what a manifest of design leadership.

The goal to become leader in the luxury segment is being proven by facts.

I'm speechless - I love the interior as well.

It looks as if I will have to wait for the new A4 Avant (B8) after all.

Now i have to take a step back and calm down a little bit. :burnout:

Although my view is not quite that harse, I'm leaning towards you. It IS Bangle inspired! Look at the waistline, look at the rockel panel "Bangle Curve", look at the Bangle "Flame Surfacing"from all sides, it has a fair amount of BMW influence! If anything, this car is vindicating the approach Bangle took years ago!!!

One but ugly car, don't like it at all.
Audi lost it completely with this.
What is it with the old fasion headlights, the A4 B7 headlights looks 10x better.
And what's up with that ugly wave down the side.
And further the dash also look not that good.
One big disapointment.

The new TT looks 100x better.

Agree wholeheartedly. I was looking for more of a radical design with the new A5. While it does look sleek and very 'Classy', It seems like it was desinged for a more 'older' crowd. I feel that Audi took the conservative route with designing this coupe. In my opinion, the front and rear leave more to be desired.

However I can definintley say that it looks better than any other coupe out there in its market segment. I am also interested in seeing the new powerplants.

I hope the B8 A4/S4 does not disappoint. I am looking to make my Audi entrance with that car. :hihi:

Agree with most of your points Iceman on some levels. (I wouldnt go as far as to call it a Disappointment). I do however totally agree with your opinion on the dash. Something seems wierd about it. I cant put my finger down on what might be the problem with the dash, but something is bugging me about the placement off the MMI, AC Controls, etc. :nana:

i'll tell you one thing, though, the crease helps balance out the front and the rear flanks. and it gives the A5 a better rear proportion, more muscular and hunkered down than the 3 series. the more i see it the more i like it.

the car actually is a harmony, continuing audi tradition within every single lines of it.

superior design in my opinion, pure and elegant, especially after those terrible spaceship-like photoshops in the other topic.

Yea the aluminum covering the left AC vent and swooping over to the MMI looks nice but then ends abruptly over the right side ac vents. Humm. It would have looked more cohesive if the aluminum ran down the right side of the "right" AC vents. Seriously, whats with the CD changer  It's hindering the consistency of the dash.

I prefer the look of this PS picture. It's the line/crease that starts at the fog light area and past the headlight that I like. The line/crease on the actual A5 starts at the headlight.

First impressions are 'OK' but not as good as I had hoped- as someone else said, the TT is a great modern Audi, but the A5, though quite elegant and clean, is perhaps too conservative. The tail looks more like a coupe-rework of an A6 tail (above licence plate, etc) than a 'BMW' clone to me. It does however seem 'BMW-ish' because of the lights' size and proportions/ positioning IMO. As for the front, why the simply angled A6 headlamps? Why cant they be shallower? Why is the grille the same old? Familiar bumper? As an industrial designer myself, I'd guess those foglamps, like the side body-line curve, is an attempt to "add emotion" as Da Silva has said before. An attempt to break up the conformity that is associated with Audi design sometimes- to add character if you will. Anyways, a nice car that will look better with time and in the metal- that we can be sure of.

I think it's "a good-looking car," but simply too conservative. I truly do think Audi missed it - the old, plainly rectangular headlights, the big gaping foglights, and the plainly boring back end. The A5 could have been subtle and understated, which it is, without being over-conservative to the point of boredom, which, unfortunately, it is.

I am as dedicated an Audi fan as you will find, but sorry, the design of this thing doesn't "flow." BMW's 3-series coupe does - yes, I say that with sadness - it's understated, but it still stands out with it's good design. I feel that most people would think about the A5, "hmm, good-looking car," then forget about it. THAT IS BAD.

Then again, some cars do look better in the flesh. Or with a different color - somebody photoshop these pics in black - I feel that could be a good color on this car.

Simply my opinion...

All of these statements sound so familiar, cue the TT Mk2 and the R8 but after seeing them in the fresh everyone thought they were amazing looking. I doubt the new A5 will be anything different. I personally like the dash, it looks a lot more sporty than the current A4 if not quite as good as the TT or R8.

I reckon it looks a lot more muscular than the 3series Coupe but again only seeing them side by side will tell.

I don't know Leadie, it may take a long time for me to warm up to the design. I hope the chassis improvements, modular platform and engine choices make up for the "ho-hum" exterior design elements.

Dear Friends,

i would also say wait until you have seen the car in person. It is fantastic in my eyes. As far as the back concerns, i cant either say if or who redesigned its product after another. Índeed some characteristics look familiar. If the A5 would have been shown before the 3 Series Coupe the terms would be reversed. Taste is of course -as always- personal but i see a Déjà Vu here, remember?

Leadi - I'm soo with you on this one. Eventhough i like the desing from the beginning, there some things that iritate me. But that is how it has been for the last years with Audi design, and all the last modells looked better in flesh than on pictures.

The good thing is that Audi does not have a fleshy, bland design that is easily aprehendable but easily forgotten as well.
It is more comlicated, demanding - but also has more substance.

I'm no desing expert- but that is how i feel and felt about Audi desing for the last years. And for me the A5 / S5 is no different.

And now imagine this car as RS5

Marketing wise not in Austria, not in Germany - where the % of Diesel engines within a modell range, especially Audi is quite high. In Austria more than 80% of all Audis are Diesel.

There are still rumors, that a Diesel verion of the TT will be introduced - a market for it exists for sure.

That it is not very "sexy" for a coupe like the A5 - I'm with you on that.

I don't understand those of you who say that this is a butt ugly car etc, because it actually isn't. No one can honestly say that, because it has genuinely classic lines, balanced proportions, and well thought through design features all around. And comparing it with Banglemobile designs.....well, that's borderline laughable.

However, at the same time I do understand your disappointment, because I too think that Audi could have done so much more. Not that the Nuvolari concept would have been the best starting point, because there were elements in that design which simply didn't work. Contrary to that of this A5. But nevertheless, this car is simply too conservative and dull and I for sure wouldn't want one. I hope I'll change my opinion once I've seen it in the flesh....

I think the interior is much better than 3 series - still Audi quality

When you look at the cross-section side view of the new A5 the engine does look to be at least 6~8 inches farther back than before.

This combined with the new Quattro system should make this car a real force to be reckoned with. It will be interesting to see what the weight balance front to rear will be, hopefully better than the 59/41% of the RS4.
