More genuine spy pics of the E92 M3. Questions i have are:
- will it be SMG only or will there be a 6-speed manual
- If manual does come out will it be "clumsier" and slower than the SMG (as has recently been quoted from a car magazine about the E60 M5 manual vs SMG)
- We all pretty much know it'll be a V8 much like the RS4, but what BHP are we talking here?
- Rumours quote a 0-100km/h time of 4.9sec. If so, where will the performance advantage be on the M3 to the RS4, if any?

Somehow i think BMW has seen the RS4 as more of a headache than anything else.
Personally, not too sure about the styling either.
Anyone know when BMW plan to officially release the E92 M3?

No fog lights on this M - car either...

...some one is going to be lost in fog...:hihi:

Fog lights are some way cool, but there is never really need for them. So I prefer that they use that for cooling brakes etc :revs:

(Yeah, I know you were not that serious...)

Perhaps it will be fast with his new V8, but this new E92 M3 is so damn Bangle ugly.

to see the head to head. i am certain the new M3 will have the genuine manual option. it will be close that is for sure. what i am intrigued to see is the trolling and bashing of the new M3 from its own kin.... the modded :mech: 335i owners. that engine (if it is reliable and stout enough- though i doubt) will be capable of monstrous potential. easy enough to nail a stock new M3 to the wall......

I think the difference between the RS4 and M3 from 0-100km/h will be small.
But from 0-200 or 250 will be in the hands of the M3

The M3 will be lighter and has less powerloss because the M3 has RWD

Clio10V,

I agree that I believe the M3 will be quicker to the 250km/h mark, but the size of the gap will depend on it torque figures, if it gets close to that of the RS4 then there could be 3~4 seconds in it, but if it not then there will be nothing in it.

I am surprised that there has been no leaked reports of what the next M3 is doing around the ring. Or is it a case that at present they don't have a time worth reporting, eg. anything over the 8:09 of the RS4.:vhmmm:

I think it will be very close the 8min limit.

I think it will be very close the 8min limit.

It should be, but I think if they had beat the RS4's time they would be shouting from the chimney tops. Remember the Z4 M Coupe only lapped it in 8:15 which isn't a bad time just not as quick as the RS4's. The M3 needs to beat the RS4 especially as the RS4 is based on 6 year old technology unlike the Beemer.

6 year old technology

What do you mean by that? I know the V8 isn't a fully new engine but not bad improved ;)
The RS4 has an new improved quattro system, and the RS4 who did the ring done bij SportAuto (8:09)was equipped with ceramic brakes and optional sport suspension, Pirelli P Zero Corsa 255/35ZR19

Clio16V,

I was referring to the chassis and model (A4) which was introduced about 6 years ago, I know that the awd system has been reworked but this car is old technology especially when you compare it to what has been achieved with the new A5 on which the next A4 shares most of it's chassis.

A 328i isn't a slow car and the way that new M3 pulled away says to me the RS4 will have a fight on it's hands.

Fab
February 6th, 2007, 06:49
well if the cam car really is a 328i and that the M3 is fully operative then the way the M3 pulls away doesn't seem very impressive. We should know in which gear the M3 started to pull. Maybe the M3 was in 5 or 6th and the 328i just running like hell.

:vhmmm:

The first 2seconds the isn't flooring it i guess, but after that the M3 really takes off!

And like Leadfoot says the 328i is not a slow car!

Fab: at those speeds that it a lot. Take into account that the 328 is flooring it too.

Fab
February 7th, 2007, 07:16
I know how it works at that speed ;) and the M3 probably just pushed from the current gear without getting into 1-2 lower gear.

My last autobahn trip with a friend : 2 people in my former TT V6 roadster DSG, 2 people in my friend's RS4 V8 rolling at 120-140 km/h on the autobahn.

1. Both floring at the same time : TT in sport mode with automatic "push back" in 3rd gear to get maximum power, the RS4 stays in 6th gear. The result is that the RS4 pulls away slightly and the advantage nevers ends and becomes even more pronounced from 200km/h onwards.

2. Both floring at the same time : TT in sport mode with automatic "push back" in 3rd gear to get maximum power, the RS4 goes down in 3rd gear. The result is a sky rocket who distroys the TT and immediately disappears (10x quicker than the above vid). Very impresive I have to say and the TT V6 isn't a slow car.

If you don't have that on a video you can't compare. Really remember feelings from the races: "Dam that was fast, pulled away like crazy!" And when I come to home and watch the video: "Hmm..it doesn't look THAT fast". Video is always looking booring when comparing to real life. If you film your drivings you will notice that.

You can't even hear the sound of the M3 so I'm guessing it is using higher gear. But anyway it's totally useless say anything about that video. We know it will be as fast or faster than (I bet faster) the RS4. But anyway nice video!

Your right man. It is always a good excuse for discussion on this forum.

No doubt from my side that the M3 will be very fast

i am not impressed with the looks of the car as well, i've seen some tasteful mods available for the 330 and 335i and i think those modded look a lot better than the future stock e92 m3
