Yeah, so it very much looks like the Le Mans V10 FSI TT (not same as tweakes Gallardo) rather than a blown S6/S8 engine then.

5.0L v10 ?

I take it this is a brand new engine and not basically a Gallardo engine or am I wrong.

Was this not the exact size of engine in the concept car that the A5 is based on? Could it be the donor engine for the RS6?

May i ask you wheres this info from?

Very close to the source ;)

So close I had to remove the thread once posted, but it feels safer now.

For those who remember, the RS6 Plus was "discovered" on RS6.com. Information I also had to "remove" not to "hurt" people at that time.

eric,

i like the idea of a bespoke motor, as i assume that will mean that they have more options with fitting and cooling...

1 more - is the 7-sp s-tronic in the q5 the dual clutch box? and it will not be available on the C6 RS6?

I think I might have got it wrong you know, I assumed it was a V10 but nowhere in your posted did it say it was a V10, maybe it's a RS4 re-engineered to 5.0L. This would help not only with regards to space for the turbo but also cooling and we know the engine in this form and size would easily produce the desired power and torque output.

The only problem is would people except an engine with less cylinders than the cheaper and less powerful S6?

I have heard exactly the same. You are just missing that its going to be a V10...
I still have no confirmation for frankfurt presentation but it would make sense to show it there given the launch date.

Who said it's not going to be a V10???

Like everyone I assumed it would be a V10, but as your post didn't say as much I just stated that it was possible for the RS6 to use a re-worked RS4 engine increasing the capacity to 5.0L and adding a pair of turbos.

I didn't state it as a known fact just a possibility.;)

It an assumption that everyone here think it will be a V10 in much the same way as everyone thinks the RS5 will run a tweaked RS4 engine, all I know is that there has been a lot of different options tried by Quattro GmbH and as yet no confirmation as it which it will be.

Anyway who cares if the bloody thing kicks out 590ps, not me. As SpongeSquarepants would say 'Eat my shorts' Mr BMW M5 man.:hihi:

it is very possible that the RS5 will carry the RS4 engine. it would allow the RS5 to join the line up much sooner and take on the M3 and make the model rollouts more on par with benz and bmw.

also. too much development has gone into the engine to make it a 2 model only spec.

I have heard from a very reliable source that the RS5 will be upping the power output over that of the RS4,by how much is again known and not even finalised yet but it's safe to say that something in the regions of 450hp is surely on the cards.:jlol:

By the way in one form or another the RS4 engine is currently in 6 models including that of the RS4 (RS4, S4, S5, Q7, A6 and A8) so it has been worth the development involved.

Erik

TT of course.

But ain't it 5,2 liter TT??? The "same" engine as seen on S6 and S8 but with them turbos... :vhmmm: At least that's what I've heard! :thumb:

I would have thought that it should be the 5.2 l version.
This is considered to be Audis version of the V10 engine.

Now the V8 vs V10, turbo or NA argument has been laid to rest -

Whats the horsepower going to be ?

530? 550? 560? 580? 590? 600?

I've seen all these mentioned in some form or other on this forum.:hihi:

Does this make it clearer for you.;)

I think the reason it might be 5.0L is slightly thicker cylinder block?

The question still remains: What transmission options will be available, and will Audi please bless us poor NA folks with an Avant? I really need a 580hp station wagon to take my kids to school and pick up the groceries!!!

I have asked this very question to someone in the know and the reply back was at present the DSG is a work in progress, they want it for the launch but chances are we will have to be content with the automatic at the moment.

But I did detect one of this ;) in the reply so who knows.

That's a bummer. I've got a deposit down for my dealer's first RS6, but if the only option is an automatic I am going to pass on it.
